Change

This is a song I wrote at least 23 years ago. It’s basically a break-up song written by a snot-nosed teenager with very little life experience.

When I was studying audio engineering and recorded music production at Trebas Institute, the song was chosen to be a class project to be recorded and fully produced.

The original version of the song was a simple acoustic piece that kicked into a grungy (Pumpkinsesque) climactic end. Our instructor at the time Jim Lamarche, heard something different, and like the great producer he was, he put his own spin on it and made it a VERY different song. This is the result. I wish I had the original 4-track version that I recorded to compare.

In addition to Jim’s production touches, another amazing addition to this recording is the guitar solo by Bob Lavigne. I played the layered guitar pieces and sang the lead, but Bobby came in and laid down an amazing solo after only hearing the song a few times.

This song was recorded at Cherry Beach Sound in Toronto in December of 1994.
