Here’s another PFTW pop sensation. Put on your dancing shoes for this one. Crisco Fever is the eighth track on With Baited Breath, and without question, it’s the strangest song on the record.

Every band has that one song that starts as a joke, an inside reference, or a ridiculous conversation that should have ended after five minutes. Somehow, instead of disappearing, it takes on a life of its own. Not every song needs to be a deep philosophical statement. Sometimes a song just needs to kick the door open and make a mess of the room.

That’s Crisco Fever.

“Crisco Fever” is a funkadelic extravaganza of sound. The drums and bass create a tight groove, and perfect foundation, that drives this song from start to finish. The guitar playing demonstrates superb understanding of both technique and feel, the groovy hammond organ completes the instrumental line-up. The vocals are the icing on this musical cake and I recommend everyone to take a bite and have a listen.

Lyrics:

Well I was caught with my pants downtown
My dog watched as all my neighbours frowned
Feels like a hundred million miles from home
Don’t think I’ve ever seen this place before

Well I was seen with that bitch again
Noone believed me when I said she was just a friend
Feels like a hundred million miles from home
Don’t think I wanna see her face here any more

I’m fine
I’ve got this sick perverted mind
No I’m not blind
My mind is racing all the time

Well I went around the block to the Beer Store
Picked up some boxers and a two-four
Feels like a hundred million miles from home
Don’t think I’ve ever seen this place before

I’m fine
I’ve got this sick perverted mind
No I’m not blind
My mind is racing all the time
