With Baited Breath: Track #1 – Rightfully Mine

Lyrics: Al Grego
Album: With Baited Breath

Release Date: January 1, 2001
Track Number: 1
Genre: Alternative Rock / Hard Rock

Rightfully Mine is the first track off of our debut CD With Baited Breath. We knew it had to be the first track on With Baited Breath. It’s loud, it’s direct, and it captures a lot of what Poised for the Worm is about.

The song came out of that feeling of fighting for your place in the world and refusing to back down when people tell you what you can or can’t have. It’s about believing in yourself, standing your ground, and going after what’s yours, even when the odds aren’t in your favour.

Musically, it hits hard right from the start. We wanted something that would grab people by the throat and let them know exactly what kind of ride they were in for. No slow build, no easing into it—just plug in, turn it up, and go.

As the opening track on With Baited Breath, Rightfully Mine sets the tone for the rest of the record. It’s one of the first songs we wrote as a band, and it still feels like the perfect introduction to who we are.

Crank it up!

Hitbound! This tune reminds me of a group I used to blow up on stage called Malice – I used to do live pyrotechnics for them. Great breaks to start and strong beats kick through to the verses. I like the vocals on this one a lot. Nice change in the middle – cool harmonies come out of the solo. Radio ready rock.

Lyrics:

Hey there lady
Are you happy with your life
Well I’ve been watching you
Comforting your child
Tell me does he have a future
Or is it all a big lie
Where the hell is his father
Does he love his wife

I’m working hard in a world full of money
A slave to all that’s in life
I’m giving up what I had coming
I’m giving up what’s rightfully mine

Hey kid why aren’t you in school
You’re working 5 to 9
Where have all your ambitions gone
Do you feel like you’re running out of time
Do you wonder what would’ve happened
Had you turned left not right
Does it ever make you angry
Are you happy with your life

I’m working hard in a world full of money
A slave to all that’s in life
I’m giving up what I had coming
I’m giving up what’s rightfully mine

There’s no taking the easy way out
No miraculous surprise
And if you think you’re in over your head
Then you’re probably doing something right

I’m working hard in a world full of money
A slave to all that’s in life
I’m giving up what I had coming
I’m giving up what’s rightfully mine
