Stephen Harper Losing a Popularity Contest?

Support for the Conservatives seems to be hinging on Stephen Harper’s likeability, which doesn’t bode well for the boys in blue.
“The Liberals are already making extensive use of another survey conclusion: that voters are extremely skittish about Conservative Leader Stephen Harper.
The poll suggests Harper’s personal unpopularity helps sustain the Liberal party; almost 40 per cent of people who said they would vote Liberal cited Harper as their main motivation.”

But according to Decima chief executive Bruce Anderson, there is hope as long as the Conservatives don’t “Harp” on the sponsorship scandal…
“The Tories can’t expect to surf on scandal that long; they must appeal to voters who could swing either way, Anderson said.”

I see a flaw in Anderson’s logic…I thought people who could swing both ways made the Conservatives nervous.
Martin Says Yeeeehaaaaw! We Think…

The no-confidence vote didn’t shake Martin’s optimism.
“The motion passed easily in a 171 to 133 vote, triggering an election campaign one year and five months after Canadians last went to the polls.
— CBC.ca, November 29, 2005.
‘Let’s get started, time’s a wasting,’ a boisterous Martin told his supporters after the motion passed. ‘C’mon, we’ve got a campaign to run.’”
Following this statement, Martin’s microphone failed briefly, but we caught what followed on tape…
“We’ve got hands to shake, promises to break and bribes to take! Yeeeeeehaaaaaw!”
I uh…may have added the “Yeeeeeehaaaaaw!” part at the end there…but the rest is true, I swear it is.*
Layton Says “Look what we did!”

NDP leader Jack Layton must have had to pinch himself when he was called upon to help topple the Liberal minority government during the non-confidence vote.
“NDP Leader Jack Layton criticized the Liberals for refusing to compromise and agree to their proposal to hold a February election, avoiding a Christmas campaign.
“As a result of the stubbornness of the Liberals and the inflexibility that we’ve seen, we will be starting an election [campaign] tomorrow,” Layton said.”
— CBC.ca, November 29, 2005.
Once again, Jack was allowed to play with the big boys (that’s why he’s smiling in his picture). Experts though, believe that Layton is simply playing puppet to Harper with hopes that maybe he’ll be allowed to continue to play election. Of course Layton’s people are denying this and state that any proof that may exist to the contrary is a lie.
I guess they found out about the conclusive photographic evidence that we found, showing someone (we’re not sure who) obviously pulling the strings during his speech. Wait until Martin finds out that his little friend is playing for the other team.
One More Slap in the Face

The Bloc seem to be content campaigning in La Belle Province and who can blame them? They hold 53 of 75 available seats in Quebec, which makes up roughly 17% of all available seats in the house (not including the lavatories) this makes them the 3rd most powerful political party in the country, well ahead of the NDP. Not bad considering all their seats are held in one province.
This shows that the Bloc have no ambition to lead the country, they’re simply content to be a thorn in Canada’s side; and they’re really good at it. Especially when it comes to establishing double-standards. One great example is the demand for the recognition of bilingualism. All the major Canadian political parties (Liberal, CPC, NDP) have their websites available in both English and French. Meanwhile, the only lick of English you’ll find on the Bloc Québécois site is a single PDF file abstract of the party’s electoral platform.
Now granted, the Bloc probably wouldn’t have a chance at winning a seat in any other province in the country even if they had MPs running there, but except for the Liberals, neither of the other parties have a chance at winning seats in Quebec either, but they still go through the motions of providing French versions of their sites. This is just another example of how the Bloc disrespect the rest of the country.
BTW, did I mention that not once in the entire PDF of the Bloc’s electoral platform, does the word ‘Canada’ appear? A platform that they’re using to run in a Canadian federal election. It’s like the mere mention of the word ‘Canada’ would confirm the country’s existence. This is the kind of denial we are dealing with here folks.
Having said all of this, over a Japanese lunch with Darrell yesterday, he made an excellent suggestion. He suggested that it was incumbent on me; as a proud Canadian, who loves his country and everyone in it including Ferret-face and his Bloc Québécois; to provide you, my reader with an inside look at what those country-wreckers are saying about the rest of the country on their exclusive little site. So, I’ve chosen a passage at random, and passed it onto our crack translation staff.
Here it is in French:
“Voilà une comparaison odieuse pour les centaines de milliers de Québécois qui ont bravé le froid intense en 2003 pour manifester leur opposition à la guerre en Irak et pour les millions d’autres qui ont voté « oui » en 1995.”
— Bloc Québécois site, January 4, 2006.

“Here is an odious comparison for the hundreds of thousand Natives of Quebec who braved intense cold in 2003 to demonstrate their opposition to war in Iraq and for the millions others whom voted ‘yes’ in 1995.”

DEATH TO ALL ANGLOPHONE FEDERALISTS!
Oh.. sorry…I guess I’m more susceptible to propaganda than I thought…I’m glad they don’t hold grudges.
One final thing…what the FUCK is it with stupid « quotation » marks!? Can’t we even share punctuation in common? Sheesh!
*No it isn’t.
