TPS192: Mat’s BIG DECK Energy! (Patreon Exclusive)

NOTE: This episode is available to patrons only. To become a TPS patron, click here.

The Produce Stand is celebrating three years, and apparently the only appropriate way to mark the occasion is with some Big Deck Energy.

The gang gathers in person on Mat’s deck for a special anniversary episode with Tanya, Mat, Al and Victor joined by Linda, Miriam, Juan and Gord, plus a bunch of Degens hanging out on the livestream.

Instead of the usual recap and review, this episode is all about the TPS community. The gang catches up with their guests, answers questions from the Degens, talks about how the podcast has changed over its first three years, shares some favourite memories and reflects on the friendships and experiences that never would have happened without the show.

Along the way, things inevitably wander into discussions about Colombian hippos, Victor’s obsession with trains, songs that belong on a fan-made Letterkenny and Shoresy soundtrack, what the hosts’ kids think of the podcast, and the possibility of taking TPS on a road trip south of the border.

Most importantly, the gang looks back at TPS growing from a handful of listeners during lockdown into a community of friends, listeners, guests, cast and crew that has taken them all the way to Sudbury and beyond.

Thanks to everyone who has listened, watched, joined the Discord, supported us on Patreon, appeared on the show or become part of the TPS family over the past three years.

Here’s to whatever comes next.

Mat: [00:00:00] At my place, the gang’s all collected to hang out where my deck is erected. ‘Cause when Produce Stand synergy meets big deck energy, well, you never quite know what’s expected.

Al: Quiet on the set. Here we go. That’s

Mat: why you get paid the big bucks. That fresh pro-

Clip: Sorry.

Mat: It makes sense. It’s my deck.

Al: Here we go.

Clip: That fresh produce stand there, that’s a beauty. What do yous listen to? My Favorite Murder podcast. Taggart and Torrance Podcast. The Produce Stand.

Mat: Uh, fucking sexy.

Al: It’s finally Friday, and that means we are once again hanging at the Produce Stand, the podcast covering everything in the universe.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. There are many other Letterkenny podcasts out there, but this one is coming to you live from Uncle Matt’s big deck.

Mat: I’m pretty sure you said Lenny Kenny.

Al: Did I?

Mat: Just, just saying.

Al: I was waiting for, like, applause. From Uncle [00:01:00] Matt’s big deck.

Tanya: Start,

Al: start again. Hey. I’ll applaud.

All right. I’m Al, your host, and joining me on Matt’s big deck is Matt himself, the lovely Tanya, the very vivid Victor, and also in attendance we have Linda, Miriam, Juan, and YYZ Gord. Thank you for joining us, guys. Hey-o.

Tanya: Wondrous. Oh,

Al: my Lord. I’ll, I’ll cut that a little closer so

Tanya: it’s a little- Oh,

Clip: my God.

Tanya: Oh,

Clip: my God.

Oh. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I’m

Al: gonna head in a little bit. Oh.

Clip: Oh, my God.

Al: It’s a big sound

Clip: bite I regret nothing! All

Al: right, and on the live stream, I forgot to say, we have Casey, we have Chad, Aaron has joined. We have Melasa AKA Sarah, and we have Tobias. Thank you guys for joining us on the live stream on a Friday night. And yes, we are On… You just… Sorry. Tanya’s g- taking- You’re on camera

taking video of everyone, and as she’s looks at… As she’s got vid- uh, Victor- … [00:02:00] in the video, he was sucking on his thumb.

Mat: Oh. That, that sentence coulda gone a number of ways.

Al: Yeah. I’m gonna- Yeah, I’m gonna clip that and post it somewhere. Anyway.

Mat: Yeah, it’s turning into a meme. Right.

Al: Oh, man. Here we go. How

Mat: are you now?

Al: Tonight’s lineup is gonna be Tanya, Matt, Al, Victor, and our guests. Tanya, it’s been a while. I’m gonna, I’m gonna pull the, uh- He’s

Mat: snuggling. Uh,

Al: yeah.

Tanya: Are you snuggling?

Al: Yeah, I’m putting my arm around you.

Tanya: Hi.

Al: How’s your week been?

Tanya: Uh, uh, it… Puh.

Mat: That went well.

Tanya: I don’t even remember. Uh, I don’t even know. Yeah.

What, uh, just, no. Like, we gotta go back more than a week. Mm. Like, when’s the last time we recorded, other than

Al: our interview? Well, I recorded with the degens last week. Yeah. Uh, you guys took the week off. I, I gave you the option. We’ve

Tanya: taken many

Al: weeks off. You’ve taken many weeks off. That’s right. We were at the cabin.

Tanya: We were at the cabin, and then before that. I, I feel like this has been, like, two, three weeks.

Al: Yeah. Before that I think it was Victor’s interview. Um, yeah. Yeah.

Tanya: It’s been a long [00:03:00] time.

Al: It’s been a long time.

Tanya: So you can’t ask me how the week’s been.

Al: How have you been? Okay,

Mat: what would you like to talk about,

Al: Tanya?

I know, right? Let’s, let’s talk what- about whatever you wanna talk about. So

Mat: dramatic.

Tanya: You know what? Yeah. I’m just, I’m just really excited to be here, and, and this is… I feel like this is a first. I feel like, like I’m a panelist on something that I’m not entirely sure I’m, I’m, uh, going to enjoy.

Al: You’re not used to the live audience, are you?

Tanya: I’m not. No? We… Like, when we had the, the Sudbury, um, um, everybody- Gathering … w- we were all in a line. Yeah. And, and it was different. No one was looking at you. And no one was looking at me. They’re already

Mat: bored. Yeah.

Tanya: Yeah, they’re looking at-

Mat: Miriam’s watching TikTok or something. The fuck, pick it up, Tanya.

Tanya: Starting, starting to play Gem, the Gem matching game- It’s Bejeweled. Is it Bejeweled? … or is that Jew- Bejeweled? Uh, yeah. You know what? It’s, it’s, it’s summer. We’re enjoying it. We’ve been to the cottage. We’ve, uh, been going to beaches. And, uh, yeah, it’s been, it’s been busy, but, uh, fun and enjoyable, and I’m just super, super psyched to be here.

We’ve

Al: had some really fun interviews in the last, uh- We have … few weeks. So many interviews. Let’s see. We had Burke [00:04:00] Cazabon. We had, uh- Yep … uh, Keegan Long. Um, who did we have before? Oh, uh, uh, Brad, Brad Miller. He was… It was, yeah, three great interviews. Yeah. I think B- Brad’s dropped yesterday.

Mat: Yeah.

Al: Uh, Burke will drop next Thursday, and Keegan will drop the following Thursday.

See, guys? I’m actually, I’m saving episodes now so that we have some Thursdays, uh, w- worth of recordings. ‘Cause it, I don’t know if we’re gonna be, uh, available for the next few Thursdays, so. And

Tanya: the Takeover crew- Mm-hmm … they’ve been, like, in full swing. Yeah. It’s like summer hits for us, and they are like, “All right, p- like, we’re ready to, to, to jump in.”

Al: Yeah. They

Tanya: did great jobs. They’ve been phenomenal. Yep. The, the, uh, the Zero, um, um- Episode Zero … Episode Zer- Zero review- Mm-hmm … that was phenomenal. That, uh, that was great. And your interview, dude. Wow. That

Al: was amazing. Yeah, we were listening to it on our way here- Yeah … ’cause you hadn’t heard it yet.

Tanya: I’ve been listening to it between meetings, and I’ve had quite a few lately.

So yeah, I’ve just been plugging them in where I can. Yeah, it’s a bit

Victor: of a fog. When you’re in it, you

don’t

Al: really remember [00:05:00] No, you should listen back to it. It’s actually quite- It’s

Tanya: really, really good … really good. Well done. Really good. Yeah. Really well done. Yeah, for sure.

Al: Uh, Matt, how have you been?

Mat: I’m good.

Al: Thank you for having us here, by the way. Thanks

Mat: for

Al: coming, everyone. You’ve got a really nice place. This

Mat: is, this… Thank you. I, I didn’t get the path done. Mm-hmm. I’m, I’m really upset about that, so I apologize for the dirt, everyone. It’s, uh, it… Had it been wet, it would’ve been worse. It would’ve been

Al: muddy.

Mat: But when I’m on- But, no, it’s great. It’s fine … it’s okay. Yeah, so

Al: you- We, we, we got lucky with the weather. It was

Mat: supposed to rain, right? Holy fuck. And it was supposed to be, like, 40 degrees. I mean- It’s

Al: been pretty fucking hot.

Mat: We got pretty lucky. And, and it’s been- Yeah … it’s been… Honestly, it’s been a rough couple weeks.

Mm-hmm. Um, we had some big-ass vet bills again.

Al: Oh, no.

Mat: Oh. Uh, Moose, which you guys have all met, and he’s been lovely. Tonight-

Al: Slobbering all over

Mat: us … I’ll be, I’ll be, I’ll be honest, I was a little worried how… He hasn’t met this many new people at once. Oh. So I wasn’t sure, but he’s been pretty great with everyone, so it’s great.

Mm-hmm. Um, but no, he tripped and basically tore his dewclaw-

Al: What? …

Mat: a couple weeks ago. Ouch. So we had to go take him into the vet, and I think I’ve talked before, we take him to the vet, [00:06:00] we have to put him under. He will not let anyone touch him.

Al: Oh.

Mat: So- He’s a

Al: big dog … all- There’s no way …

Mat: he, yeah, you can’t control him.

He’s super pa- paranoid of being touched, so already you’ve got a $300 cost just to even look at the dog, and then you add up everything else. So that was fun. And then our AC went on us, uh, right before this heat wave.

Al: Oh.

Tanya: Oh. No. That’s not

Mat: good. So I learned a hell of a lot about ACs in 24 hours. Oh,

Al: that’s right, you posted a pic- So did that work?

Mat: No.

Al: Were you able to-

Mat: No. No. No. That’s why we had to have it fixed. Okay. I thought I solved… And actually, I’ll be honest, when the guy came, he was imp- When I told him all the things he did, he w- he’s, I mean, he appeared impressed. I don’t know if he actually was, but- You’re,

Al: you’re paying him. Of course he’s gonna

Mat: look impressed.

Yeah. But, but he said, “Oh yeah,”- Oh, that’s great. Yeah … “That’s all the, that’s all the things I would’ve done.” Mm-hmm. So I felt like I was on the right track, but we had to replace the whole coil. Uh, so that was a pain in the ass. Yeah. So we needed, I needed a win, and so far this night is my win. Mm-hmm. And I’m excited that everyone’s here.

Yes. And it’s kinda fun that there’s just as many panelists as there is guests. Yes. It’s like a, it’s a stare down. It’s one to one, yeah. It’s a, it’s a stare [00:07:00] down, but I love it. And, uh, we’ve eaten well, and the weather’s holding out. And you guys don’t look comfortable s- squeezed on that couch, but I got the good chair.

I’m very comfortable. I’m- So we’re good.

Tanya: Yeah, you got the chair away from Victor- Victor put his- … because when the train comes- Yeah … I’m not… I’m, I’m ducking. I’m gonna duck and

Al: cover. Victor put his plate of chips on the seat where our guest is supposed to sit. He came with a plate

Mat: of chips to the podcast.

Al: Unbelievable. Oh, so speaking of chips- Okay … of course we had to get some of these. So these are All Dressed Lay’s, the ones that they use in the episode, which are great. Uh, but I gotta say- They’re mini Lay’s … my, my, uh, favorite- You have

Tanya: to show my camera too …

Al: version of chip, of All Dressed chip, is actually the ruffled chip.

I think these are better. But, uh, they’re really good. And earlier we were mowing down on… What do, what do they call it? KFC-

Mat: KFC, KFC Original Recipe.

Al: KFC Original Recipe Ruffles. And we, uh… Oh, we’re, we’re getting the… Oh, yeah.

Mat: Oh, here.

Al: Thanks, Gord. Thanks,

Mat: Gord. Thanks for showing me beer.

Al: So I don’t know if these are available in the States.

Uh, so let’s, let’s hear what the audience thinks of these. They’ve all had some. What [00:08:00] do you guys think?

Juan: Eh. Fake

Mat: news.

Al: Fake, fake news. Yeah, so not great. Sorry Ruffles, I guess we’re not getting that, that- No more chips We’re not getting that- Right … sponsorship from Ruffles.

Mat: Like, at what point do they go, “This doesn’t taste like it, but let’s still call it that”?

Al: Yeah. Like- Yeah …

Mat: y- come on.

Al: I feel like I had a similar flavor like that when they tried, like, fries and gravy or something. You know- Like, it’s very peppery, it’s very… Yes. Very

Mat: peppery.

Al: Yeah. We

Tanya: go so hardcore- Yeah … with the spicy stuff, though, now, that that- It’s true … was refreshing because it was like, “Oh, I don’t have to take an an- acid after eating this “

Al: Fair enough.

You make a good point there. Uh, yeah, so, I mean, been fun. Like, I was on last week, so not as, it hasn’t been as long as you guys, uh, been, being on the podcast. Had a lot of fun with the Take Over team. This week’s just been busy with work and getting ready for tonight. Uh, yeah, we’re, we, we got lucky ’cause it was supposed to be raining right now.

Yeah. And it looks like the thunderstorms have been pushed out a couple hours, so, uh, we, we’re lucky to get this in. Uh, we were, [00:09:00] you know, hoping for some, you know, guests to come on, like, uh, some Letterkenny cast members and stuff. Uh, unfortunately, it being midsummer, uh, everyone very politely said, “Sorry, but we had plans.”

I mean, some of them sounded like they would’ve come if they could’ve. Yeah. But, uh, they, yeah, it was just too, too much to ask and too little, uh, notice. They

Mat: all seem to have fair reasons.

Al: Yes, exactly. I feel like if we do this, if we try doing this in, like, February, uh, well, the, the weather would suck, but, uh, I think people might come.

Tanya: Ooh, big deck with a, with a bonfire and, and- Yeah, well, there’s

Al: a fire pit right there. We could, like, have snow and fire and, and-

Tanya: Ooh, we could do the maple, uh, maple, uh, dippy things with the, in the snow.

Al: The, the syr- the-

Tanya: The syrup. What, uh, like- Oh, we’re doing

Mat: a s- selfie from the s-

Tanya: Mid, mid-

Mat: Yeah, ’cause, uh-

Al: This is good.

Cha- Chad on livestream says, “Matt, your deck isn’t that big.” Oh. So Matt n- needed to show the, the extent of it. We’re actually sitting on half the deck. There’s a whole other half on the other side there where we had our, uh, dinner, and it was Port- it was, uh, provided by [00:10:00] who?

Mat: Rui’s… Rui’s. I don’t know.

Al: Just Rui’s?

Mat: R- Rui’s Barbecue.

Al: Rui’s Barbecue is very good. Shout out to

Mat: Rui’s Barbecue.

Al: Delicious Portuguese chicken, uh, you know, w- available for sponsorship if you want it. Victor, how have you been?

Victor: Um, so first of all, Matt was using a wide-angle lens on that shot. Uh, second-

Al: Well, when taking a dick pic, uh, you, you might wanna do that.

Mat: Especially when you’re taking my dick pic. You need the wide angle.

Victor: I’ll remember that. Um, so s- second, uh, he’s got the, uh, to go along with his, uh, big deck, he’s got a little baby bullet, uh, that passes through his backyard, uh, every 20 minutes or so.

Mat: Oh. It’s a train. Yeah. We’re waiting. We’re waiting. It’ll come.

It’ll

Victor: come. Yeah.

Mat: I hope so.

Victor: So that’s really exciting, and that’s, it’s actually a lot closer than I thought it would be.

Mat: I told you. I’m very impressed with it. I said literally I could almost touch the thing. No one believed

Victor: me. Well, well, you could. I will attempt that. He’s got a little gate. He’s got a little gate that he can walk through.

Why is

Mat: everything little right now?

Tanya: Little gate, baby bullet.

Victor: Well, well, it is.

Mat: You’re not bringing the big energy.

Tanya: Big deck- We gotta balance- … little everything else … we gotta

Victor: balance out the [00:11:00] Force here, okay? It’s

Mat: all perfectly sized,

Victor: man. For Chad, we gotta balance, we need, we need to bring balance to the Force.

Anyway, uh, how I have a… Well, first of all, the Ruffles. Uh, so, uh, let’s see. Their bags are smaller, uh, their prices are higher, and their flavors have diminished. So it doesn’t even matter what flavor you’re talking about, it’s not like it was back in the ’80s.

Al: What does the peanut gallery think of that?

Miriam looks very confused … it’s in

Tanya: the same-

Victor: And, and, and, and KFC, come on, if you didn’t know it was KFC, you would’ve probably said it’s regular flavor.

Al: No, not regular. No. No. You would’ve said high on spice, Dave.

Victor: It barely. It barely has flavor. Victor, your taste

Al: buds are broken. It’s

Mat: pepper for days.

Al: Yeah, it’s

Victor: pepper for days.

Yeah, and you think Old Crust is the, uh, best flavor. It

Al: is. It

Mat: is. But regular is clearly salt. Yeah. So this is its counterpart, pepper.

Al: Yeah. And-

Victor: Pepper, pepper, pepper, salt is, is, is, is the way the song goes.

Al: Mm. Okay. Anyway, how have you been? I do

Tanya: know that

Victor: song. Good. Um-

Mat: This is what we feel like all the

Victor: time

so, so we’ve been rewatching WKRP in Cincinnati. Ah, fair show. Great show. So, uh- [00:12:00] One of the best … no, no lessons to be learned from any of those episodes. No. It was, it was really the good old days. Mm-hmm.

Tanya: That was one… uh, that was an, the show that you learned English from.

Victor: I… It, it was. Yeah. It was. So really- So yes, lessons

so it brought, brought the nostalgia back. Um, and I’ve been watching secretly a show called Hijack with Idris Elba. It’s like a- Oh, yeah, I’ve heard about that … it’s like a, it’s like a miniseries of a- Why, why

Mat: are you watching it secretly?

Victor: Well, ’cause nobody else is interested.

Mat: Have you given them a chance?

If you did it secretly, how do you even know?

Victor: Uh-

Tanya: Now you’re telling people. It’s okay …

Victor: I know, I know people aren’t interested- You’re coming out … in watching airplane disaster shows. I like it. Um, anyway, so I recommend it. If you’re Idris Elba fans, then, you know, you might like it.

Al: But is it, is it a drama, or is it a- Yes

a documentary?

Victor: No, no, drama.

Al: Okay, ’cause when… so airplane disaster drama.

Tanya: No.

Victor: Yeah, yeah. It’s like a hijacking. Sure. And then you’re watching it.

Al: Yeah, you’ve lost Tanya, but I mean, I’m interested. Not my forte. Yeah, I’m, I’m an Idris Elba fan, so.

Victor: Yeah. Yeah, no. That’s great. So go for it. Anyway, so there you go. Uh, aside from that, I don’t know what else to say.[00:13:00]

Al: Uh- You’re- … for once you ha- you’re speechless, which is great. So- … I mean, we just had dinner. I think it’d be great, now would be a great time to have a little bit of coffee, right? So- That’s not mine, is it? No. Well, it’s- Oh … it’s kinda yours. Here we go. It’s so embarrassing. It’s so great.

Mat: This smells

Gord: good.

Mat: Oh,

Al: hey, Alexander.

You work here now?

Clip: They say man who go to sleep with itchy butt wake up with smelly finger.

Al: Uh, okay.

Clip: Welcome to Diabolical Coffee. My name is Alexander. How might I help you?

Al: Right. I was needing a coffee. Thanks.

Clip: Well, now, at Diabolical Coffee, we say we have a roast for every taste. How would you describe your taste?

Al: I mean, I like coffee.

Clip: Grind is very important, too. We have a standard grind, of course.

Al: Of course.

Clip: And of course, we also have a coarse grind.

Al: Right.

Clip: Now, some folks don’t trust their grind into strangers, so we offer whole bean as well. For instance, these Peruvian beans are, of course, from Peruvia, which, if memory serves me, is where your family hails from.

Al: Well, Portugal, [00:14:00] but-

Clip: So that’s like a taste of home.

Al: What?

Clip: Did you know we also have espresso, or as is known in Italy, espresso?

Al: You know that hand gestures don’t make that right.

Clip: We also have K-cups, which keeps the coffee from getting on the outside of the pot, which I must admit- I’ve never been a fan of

Al: The outside, huh?

Clip: Now, I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the produce stand

Al: Isabelle …

Clip: now, for some reason, if you put that in the promo code, this guy Eric gives you 20% off your purchase. But I’d keep that under my hat.

Al: Yeah. Secret’s safe with me. I’m gonna go look at the Diabolically awesome swag.

Clip: He’ll give you 20% off of that, too.

You just can’t beat that deal. I don’t care who you are.

Al: Right. Thank you, Alexander.

Clip: Don’t thank me, thank Diabolical Coffee.

Al: You’re right. Thank you, Diabolical Coffee and Eric, for your support.

Clip: That guy Eric must be a good guy, but not very savvy if you ask me, giving away 20% left and right all willy-nilly.

Al: Yes. Thank you, Eric. Uh, we’re gonna skip the Twitter mentions tonight because, uh, well, we got better [00:15:00] stuff to do th- than, uh, talk about X. X.

Clip: Previously on Letterkenny.

Al: Last week, I joined the takeover team to re-listen to episode zero. It was a fun listen back to that episode and realized just how little we knew about the show-

Mat: We knew nothing

Al: and what was in store for the next three years. Uh, this week we gather on Mac- Matt’s big deck to celebrate three years of TPS- Thank you … and to have a bit of a Q&A with some of our guests and the degens on the live stream. So here we go.

Clip: Well, don’t bore us, get to the chorus.

Al: So let’s… Why don’t we talk first to the folks we have here live.

Who wants to come up first? I mean, Gord, you’re already standing. Why don’t ya-

Mat: Don’t trip over the light, Gord.

Al: Yeah, just, just- Don’t trip

Mat: over the Gor- light, Gord.

Tanya: I’ll share my mic with you, Victor

Mat: Hey. How are you

Gord: now?

Al: Why, why is he- Good to see you … Gord

Gord: Also bad.

Al: Thank you for joining us. It’s great to see you live, man.

Gord: Thank you. Good to see you.

Al: And, and it’s amazing that we actually picked a date where you weren’t somewhere- Yeah … in another country.

Gord: You, you found me in, in the province and in the country.

Al: For how long? It’s

Mat: all by [00:16:00] design, Gord.

Gord: Uh, till, till next Friday I’m off to Madrid.

Al: Madrid. Yes. Of course you are. Um, you’ve been to Spain before, though.

Gord: I have.

Al: So-

Gord: First time in Madrid.

Al: So how do you guys decide when you’re gonna revisit a, a country? You just-

Gord: Um, this trip is just me. Oh, okay. Um, but, um, this was a… Air Canada decided that, um, they wanted to give some cheap business class fares to Europe. So I’m like, “Where can I go?” So, um, hadn’t been to Madrid so, um, flying in style and- Nice

uh, have a nice long weekend.

Mat: So is your, is your… Like, are you like those casino guys? You know, if you spend a lot of money, they give you all kinds of free shit.

Gord: No, it’s

Mat: not that. Like, you fly, you travel enough, they’re like, “Here you go”?

Gord: No, it wasn’t that. It’s still costing, but, um- … it was, uh, it’s kind of, part of it is, uh, when you’re chasing status you need to s- you need to spend more money to- Sure

keep your status- Yeah … and fly a bit more and, uh- Yeah. Tom, my husband’s already, uh, he’s already well on his way to what he needs for the year and, uh, I [00:17:00] could use a few more flights, so.

Al: Oh.

Gord: Off we go to, or off I go to Madrid.

Al: Very cool. You came here directly from a Toronto Mike event.

Gord: I did, at the GLB Brew Pub.

Very- Take that, Mike.

Al: Yeah, take that, Mike. Exactly. We fed him here. Did you get any food there?

Gord: Uh, I, I bought Mike some fries.

Al: Oh, so

Gord: you bought him food. You need to clip that.

Al: Oh, I am going to, yes.

Gord: He, uh, he was a little jealous, but, uh- You

Al: should’ve brought him. I- it would’ve been great to see

Gord: him, but. I, I, I don’t, I don’t know.

He, he definitely, uh, said he could not handle a Letterkenny. No. Uh, he, he tried but could not, uh-

Al: You know what he couldn’t handle is- … could not, uh,

Gord: see the,

Al: uh, benefit … is riding his bike up these hills to get- Like, M- Matt literally lives on a hill- Yeah … overlooking the city. Yeah. This is

Mat: the Himalayas is Toronto.

Al: It’s crazy. Or Toronto,

Mat: as many call it. Yeah.

Al: Yeah.

Gord: We’re surrounded by forests. Mm-hmm. And we’ve got some trains and, uh, some planes up there somewhere and some- Yeah, and automobiles out there … automobiles over there.

Mat: It doesn’t feel very city here, does it? Like- No … once you’re in

Gord: it. We’re… And we’ve got, uh, some bees and some mosquitoes.

Yeah. And some wasps. [00:18:00]

Al: We got a bee trap. It’s working. Yeah. It’s, it’s catching a few. It

Mat: caught a bee. Oh, no, there’s multiple in there, isn’t there?

Gord: We’re- Fuck you, bees. You know, it’s, uh, it’s good to, uh, to experience the big deck here. Mm-hmm. Um, it, uh, definitely lives, lives up to all the hype. I know there was some question-

on the, uh, on the live stream about whether this was big enough. Yeah. But, uh- Like,

Mat: how does it compare to other big decks?

Gord: Oh, it’s got the big deck energy, for sure. Thank

Mat: you.

Al: I’ve heard it. I mean, girth is really what we should be talking about here, right? It,

Gord: it, it’s wide and it’s long. Gord, you’re my favorite right now.

Al: Thanks a lot, Gord, for coming. He’s got a handful of chips he wants to get to. I do, I do. So you can-

Gord: They’re not all dressed, but, uh- … they’re, they’re- Not on the big deck. Are they? No … exotic. They’re never all dressed …

Al: those are the, uh, spicy dill ones, right?

Gord: No. Oh. This is onion and, uh, sour cream and then caramel onions.

Al: Oh.

Gord: Oh. They’re very good.

Al: Interesting. They’re nice. I’ll have to try those. I don’t think I’ve had that before. Yeah.

Gord: I-

Victor: Better than all dressed.

Gord: Uh, they, all dressed are good.

Mat: There’s an enormous amount of bags of chips here.

Al: I know.

Gord: Well- We eat all the chips. It’s, uh

Mat: We d- aw, there’s a fly in my wine.

Gord: I j- I just brought beer.

Oh, damn. No [00:19:00] chips. Sorry.

Al: Yeah. All right. Well- Thank you … uh, thank you so much for joining us today,

Gord: Gord. Thank- And, and- Thank you for including me. Yeah. I know I crashed the party, but, uh- No, not at all … I thought I could make it work. Absolutely welcome.

Al: Miriam crashed it.

Gord: Yes.

Al: We just, uh- It’s

Gord: true. It’s true.

Miriam crashed and told me I could come. I actually didn’t know she was

Mat: coming. Just saying.

Gord: Mir- Miriam did inform me this was happening- Yes … and to let me know that I, that I should join the party, so, uh- Yeah … appreciate it.

Al: We’re, we’re, we’re sorry we didn’t have any Letterkenny cast or, or, or-

Gord: No, I, I would’ve come anyway

background. Yeah. I’m happy to, uh, glad to join you on the pod, but good to see everybody else in person. It’s, uh, a, a first for many, and- Absolutely … appreciate the hospitality.

Al: Great. Thank you so much, Gord.

Gord: Thank you. Who am I, uh…

Al: Uh, we’ll, we’ll go in order there. Go, Juan. Come here. Oh, okay. We’ll hand it off to Juan here.

Victor: Hey, Juan, can you bring over a…

Gord: I, I’ll, I’ll get you the beer- Victor- … Juan’ll come over …

Al: you are so racist.

Gord: Juan, come on. No? I coulda done it.

Okay, here comes Juan with the beer That’s perfect.

Mat: Appropriate. Oh. Don’t [00:20:00] encourage him.

Al: That’s not PC, bro, but you said it. I didn’t say shit.

Mat: Oh, you know what you did. Woo.

Al: Victor’s the one who sent Juan for a beer. Come on.

Victor: First, it’s not a beer.

Al: Oh.

Mat: It’s not a beer.

Victor: Second, it’s a very classy-

Mat: I bought those specifically o- by request for Victor.

Queen Street 501

Victor: Cider. Hey, Juan. Hello, everyone.

Al: Queen Street 501 Cider? Street S- Streetcar Cider. Wow.

Juan: Yes.

Al: Excellent. I used to… No, I was on the 502. That was a Dundas streetcar that I used to take every day to school, so one over.

Juan: I used to take that one all the time-

Al: 502? …

Juan: when I worked- Yeah … in an office.

Al: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Juan: Not anymore.

Al: Juan, how you doing?

Juan: Not bad. Good, and you?

Al: Good,

Juan: yeah. That’s the correct response,

Al: right? Yeah, not so ba- Well, I didn’t ask you the, the correct way- … so you’re excused. Uh, thank you for joining us, uh-

Juan: Thank you for feeding us.

Al: Yeah. Well, I mean- Matt.

Mat: Sorry, i- it’s Juan, right?

Juan: Yeah.

Mat: Yeah, yeah.

Hey, Matt. Nice to meet you. Right. Nice to meet you in person again. Yeah, in per- Yeah, again, yeah. Juan had no idea who I was when he first met me. I,

Juan: I did. I just didn’t remember meeting

Mat: you in person. He didn’t remember [00:21:00] the romantic dinner we went out to for Japanese- All 25 of us? All 25 of us, and we had- Yeah

we had moments. I thought we did. Mm-hmm. But it’s okay, Juan. We’ll have new ones. No,

Juan: no, you, you, you spend more and more time with Josh and, you know, the Americans. You were wearing a different hat. I see how it is. All your love is

Mat: for the Americans. We’re ma- we’re making new memories. It’s okay.

Al: Now, Gord came here from the Toronto Mike, uh, event, but you and Miriam, uh, skipped the Toronto Mike event and chose us.

Mat: Take that, Mike.

Al: Take that, Mike. I’m clipping both of these clips and sending them to Mike. So- What are you doing, huh? I’m getting you in trouble.

Juan: He was kicked out of, you know, the next TMLX.

Al: No, no, he wouldn’t dare. Uh, I’m bringing the sound system, so I’m, I’m- Oh, okay … I’ll be there for sure. You guys, I don’t know about.

So, um, how have you been?

Juan: Good, good. Um-

Al: Good summer so far?

Juan: We are, um, back in the swing of things- Mm-hmm … after our long three-week vacation.

Al: Oh, that’s right. Yeah. And- You guys went all over, uh…

Juan: Yeah, yeah. I think we talked about it-

Al: Yeah …

Juan: in the last podcast. We were- [00:22:00] It, Alcohol

Al: Oh, the Alcohol. Yeah, yeah. Yeah,

Juan: yeah.

Al: Yeah, that was a good tr- I saw some of the pictures. It

Juan: was a very

Al: nice trip. Uh- Yeah, it looked like you guys had a good time.

Juan: We had a great time, and that’s it for now-

Al: Mm-hmm …

Juan: until we visit my parents in Colombia in December.

Al: Oh, yeah. But you do that every year, right?

Juan: Every two years. Every

Al: two years?

Juan: Uh, I try to go every year, but- Mm-hmm

one year I go by myself and- Yeah … the next one, Miriam and I Too much, man, too much. My family’s huge, so-

Clip: Yeah …

Juan: it’s, it’s too much for Miriam.

Mat: You kind of have to brace yourself for that experience, eh?

Juan: Yeah, I, I do too, ’cause I, I grew up just my parents, my brother and I and- Right … just the four of us, and when we would go to visit our family it was a shock.

Clip: Yeah. ‘

Juan: Cause, uh, I, I don’t know if, the, the rest of the group knows, but my, my mom, she’s one of 16. One six. Holy

Mat: shit.

Juan: Shit. And all, all the siblings- It’s gonna be- … are married with kids. Yeah. So I have, like, something like 40 cousins.

Tanya: Oh, my God.

Juan: First cousins. Not, like, second. Like, the… Yeah, first cousins. Do you

Mat: know [00:23:00] all of their names?

Juan: No.

Mat: Okay. Just wanted to check.

Juan: No. I, I, I know, like, the main ones, but not, not all. The

Mat: main ones. I’ve got-

Victor: How do you, how do you, how do

Juan: you get to be a

Victor: main one?

Mat: I’ve got my favorites.

Juan: I’ve got my… You know, I got favorites.

Mat: That’s

Victor: the best answer to that question. What’s the criteria?

Juan: That we get along. What’s the

Al: filter?

What’s the filter on that? The main ones. That they’re not

Miriam: messed up

Juan: and, you know- … or in trouble with the law. I have a few of those too, but…

Al: Well, it’s Colombia, after all.

Juan: Yeah, exactly.

Victor: I mean… Fantastic.

Juan: Yeah, yeah. I mean- No, they, they, they don’t, they don’t tune into this podcast, so- No … I’m, I’m safe saying that.

So…

Al: Are you kidding? If you got your family to listen to the podcast, we would literally double our listenership.

Juan: Yeah.

Al: So why don’t you, uh- There

Mat: might

Al: be eight people at

Mat: the next-

Al: Yeah … Big Deck Energy.

Juan: Yes. We, we’d have to translate it, though,

Al: so. That’s all good. That’s all good.

Tanya: Does everyone live, like, everywhere or central somewhere?

Juan: No, that, that’s the, that’s the other thing. They all live within minutes of each other.

Tanya: Wow.

Juan: They all stayed in the same town, never went [00:24:00] anywhere. I only have one cousin that moved away. She lives in the States. Mm-hmm. And she grew up in the States, so she barely speaks Spanish.

Al: Right. So you’re the cousin that got, that got out and, and did something with himself.

Mat: It sounds like a Colombian

Juan: sitcom. Well, I wouldn’t say I did. My dad did.

Al: Okay.

Juan: But, but yeah, he-

Al: Oh, your, your parents. Okay.

Juan: Yeah,

Tanya: I- So where is your dad in the pecking order of things? Is he, like, oldest or youngest or middle or- That was his

Al: mom.

Juan: That was my mom.

Tanya: Oh, your mom. Sorry. My

Juan: mom is the second oldest.

Al: Second oldest.

Tanya: Your mom is the second ol-… Oh,

Al: okay. So she, she raised a lot of those-

Juan: Yes. Yeah … those siblings. Yeah. In, in fact, one of my aunts considers my mom pretty much like a mother. Yeah. Wow. She raised her and- That’s

Al: crazy …

Juan: she took care of all the kids growing up ’cause, yeah, that’s… My, my grandmother couldn’t handle 16 kids by herself, so-

Al: So when you came along as a yeah yeah, like, you were basically y- like, are…

Do you have siblings?

Juan: Uh, my brother, but he passed away in- Oh … ’96. Okay. Um, so it, it was just the, the three of us really- Yeah … after he passed away.

Al: But you know how new parents, they’re usually… Like, their first kid, they’re really protective and they do [00:25:00] everything for them, and the second kid, they’re a little less so, and then the third kid can, can just go jump off a bridge.

Like, you were… I mean, you’re kind of kid number 17 or whatever that she’s had to raise, right? Like, even though you’re-

Juan: Yeah. Yeah. So, um, my, my mom was very adamant when she got married that she didn’t want any more- Some weird math out … than two kids.

Al: Well, she’s number 16.

Juan: And, uh- He’s got a sibling, so s- To the point that after she had my brother, uh, she said, “That’s it.

I’m done.”

Al: Yeah. “

Juan: And if you’re not gonna do anything about it, I’m gonna ha-” have an his- hysterectomy Wow And she did.

Al: Holy.

Juan: Yeah, ’cause, yeah. Done. I’m not trusting, uh, contraception for this. Done. Wow. Yeah.

Al: Wow.

Juan: That’s how traumatized she was by raising the, the other siblings, so.

Al: Yeah, I can imagine.

Juan: Yeah. Wow. So that’s my origin story.

Al: Yes. Wow. Well, thank

Victor: you so much for sharing. You, you know, uh, hippo colonies do the same thing, but- … they don’t have hysterectomies. No,

Mat: you didn’t. No, you didn’t. How? How? Come on, tell them about the hippos. Oh. Oh,

Juan: yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, we have hippos in Colombia. Yes. Than- thanks to Pablo Escobar.

Victor: Well, they’re starting to disperse them now.

Juan: Yeah. Yeah. It went from two hippos to now they have 60.

Mat: Sorry, he [00:26:00] brought hippos?

Juan: Yeah. He had a zoo- Yeah … at his place.

Mat: I did not know that.

Juan: A full-on zoo.

Mat: See, he’s

Juan: a humanitarian. And one of the species was hippos. Okay. He had two.

Al: Is that how he would smuggle drugs in and out of the country? Settle down. Like, up

Juan: a- No, no

Al: hippo’s butts?

Juan: No, that was just for entertainment, to, to show guests and, and people and… So, well, when he got killed and all- Yeah … his assets were, you know, seized by the government- Yeah … they didn’t know what to do with the hippos. The hippos. They just released them-

Al: Into the jungle …

Juan: into the wild-

Al: Into

Juan: the jungle

of Colombia.

Al: Yeah. Wow.

Mat: And they multiplied.

Juan: And they multiplied.

Al: I’d like to see that movie, the cocaine hippo movie. Oh, please. Can you imagine?

Mat: Pretty sure the US tried the same thing with tigers How many hippos are- Remember, like, Tyson and stuff …

Tanya: in Colombia then now?

Juan: Uh, they went from two to 60.

Al: Well, the same thing happened- Wow … same thing happened in Newfoundland with, uh, with m- moose, remember? Moose, yeah. They imported… They had no animals. They always pronounce

Mat: mee-se when there’s more of them.

Al: No.

Juan: Okay. I, I don’t wanna monopolize my time,

Tanya: so- No, no, I have more questions for you … I just wanted

Al: to-

Tanya: Sorry.

Al: Okay. I learned one, one valuable thing in Newfoundland, so I wanna share it now. Newfoundland has no, [00:27:00] like, squirrels or raccoons or any kind of, like-

Tanya: Snakes. No snakes. That was amazing …

Al: none of those animals- Thought that was really neat

are indigenous to Newfoundland ’cause it’s an island and it’s very rocky. No deer, no anything like that. Yeah. So they brought over two moose, and now I think they said there’s one moose for every four people, uh, in Newfoundland. Like-

Juan: Jesus …

Al: they-

Tanya: No … yeah. It, it m- even more than that. It was, it was an incredible number.

No, you

Al: said one in, one for every four people. Yeah, so b- I mean, that’s an incredible number. There’s… How many people in Newfoundland? So yeah, and- And they

Juan: use no protection.

Tanya: So if your mom was the, the s- Some loose moose.

Al: Oh, man.

Tanya: If your mom was the second- Yeah … so she was the second oldest. So do you get all the time, like, “You know so-and-so, so-and-so’s cousin, and the f- ” Like, d- do you get this, like, long stretch of like you should know who this person is- Yeah … because of this, and you’re like, “I have no idea”? Correct, yes. Okay. I wanted to know if that was just, like- Yeah, see, it’s not just you

a Portuguese thing. It’s not

Miriam: just you. No,

Tanya: it’s- No, because your mom will call you and [00:28:00] say, like, “You know the person that v- like, lived in the- Yeah, of course she will. Yeah … the apartment and then…” But she does

Al: that to me, and I don’t know who she talks about. And you’re like, “

Tanya: Yeah.” Yeah. Yeah.

Al: Now, w- were you born here in Canada?

Yeah, I was

Tanya: born here. Yeah.

Juan: Well-

Al: And, and my, l- l- like, your immediate family, I’ve got a, a relatively small family for Portuguese as well. Yeah. Like, it’s just me and my brother.

Juan: Okay.

Al: Uh, but yeah, we have an extended family that-

Juan: Extended family back home … yeah, exactly. Yeah, this is the same with us. Um, yeah, no, they, they, they constantly, my mom constantly mentions, “Oh, you remember that person?”

Granted, I was born in Colombia, but we- Yeah … moved to Venezuela when I was five. Oh, okay.

Al: Yeah.

Juan: So my recollection of Colombia is just from the ’70s.

Al: Right.

Juan: And, and I even have a different accent. I don’t have a Colombian accent, so- I, I can tell … Colombians can s- tell right away.

Mat: So what is your accent?

Juan: It’s, it’s supposed to be Venezuelan.

Mat: Oh, okay.

Juan: But now because I talk- Gotcha … to my parents all the time- Mm-hmm … and all the Venezuelan people that I used to know when I, I came here, they all have kids now. They have families. Sure. They moved away. I don’t get together with them. So my accent is now changing [00:29:00] slowly but surely into Colombian. I

Victor: was gonna say it’s Bolivian.

Tanya: How long were you in Venez- Venezuela then for?

Juan: Until I came here to Canada, so until I was 20- Oh,

Al: wow. So you

Juan: were there- … nine, 28. I was 28. Oh, wow. 28 when I came to Canada.

Tanya: 20, okay.

Juan: I’m 50 now.

Mat: Miriam, was it the accent?

Al: Well, let’s get Miriam on. Yeah,

Juan: yeah. All right. That, that played a part.

Al: We’ll pass the, the mic onto Miriam.

We’ll ask her all those questions. I will play a little bit of matchmaker. Mi amor.

Mat: I, I, I’m getting a little excited here- Yeah … on the big deck. Mm-hmm. So …

Miriam: Big deck.

Al: Hi, Miriam.

Miriam: Hi, Al.

Al: How are you?

Miriam: I’m good.

Al: I, I still love that you picked us over Mike. Anyway, let’s move on. Take that, Mike. It’s… Take this in the way that it’s meant to be.

Okay. It’s good to see you upright, ’cause normally when you sh- when you join us, you guys are in bed. Yes, I’m,

Miriam: I’m in bed, yes.

Al: I had no idea what you meant there.

Miriam: Wow. I was like, “And what?”

Al: Have you met Tanya? They’re usually, they’re usually in bed.

Miriam: Yes, that’s true. That’s true. [00:30:00]

Al: Like, when I told Miriam that we were gonna record this at, well, at originally- 6:00

6:00, she got all excited. “That’s not my bedtime.” She was like, “I can actually come.” So here you are. Yeah,

Miriam: I’m here.

Al: Thank you for coming. I’m here. It’s great. Yeah,

Tanya: you’re coming upright.

Miriam: Yes, I am. ‘Cause I was thinking, TMLX is I’ve always been upright. Like, what are you talking about?

Al: I mean, for, for our- Yes … our podcast for sure.

Yes, yes.

Miriam: Yeah.

Al: Uh, so yeah, let’s… I mean, Tanya, ask him the question. Ask her the question. Was it the accent?

Tanya: Was it the accent?

Al: Was it the accent? Or is it the hat? Well- Or the sexy calves?

Mat: It wasn’t- He’s got good- I had

Al: a fedora once. I didn’t

Mat: pull it off

Al: the same way he does. It was

Miriam: actually- He’s got nice calves

online dating. Oh, was it? So there was no accent. Oh. Right? ‘Cause we were emailing- Yeah … chatting.

Tanya: Yeah.

Miriam: So it wasn’t the accent till we met up- He wasn’t putting- … for the first time.

Mat: He wasn’t putting accents on the letters?

Miriam: No.

Mat: Okay.

Miriam: No.

Mat: So did you know that he had an accent?

Miriam: No, I did not.

Mat: Did you suspect he had an accent?

Miriam: No, I d- I can’t even remember.

Tanya: Were you in Venezuela? [00:31:00] No. Well,

Mat: his name was Juan, so I mean…

Miriam: Yeah, but I mean, uh-

Tanya: Was he in Venezuela at the time? No, no, no, no. Oh, okay. Where was he? So he was already in

Miriam: Toronto.

Tanya: Okay. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, the whole, like- All right. We’re getting

Miriam: into layers of Juan over here

Victor: green card, uh- Okay. Be- before you met him for the first time in person- Yeah … had he already told you that he had an accent?

Miriam: No, but I mean, I think we couldn’t go- Go out … on our first date because you were going to Miami to meet up with your parents. But I, maybe I was a bit clueless. I didn’t even think about him having a accent.

Had you

Victor: spoken over the phone?

Miriam: No.

Victor: So you, the first time you saw him was the first time you heard him? Wow.

Miriam: Yes.

Victor: And so what was that experience like? Wow.

Miriam: I don’t- Was,

Victor: was there a surprise? I’m good. Thank

Mat: you.

Miriam: No, ’cause his accent’s pretty subtle, at least to me. I don’t know to you guys. Yeah. I

Mat: love you can

Miriam: see beyond

Mat: it.

Miriam: Although I do make fun of him. Yes. ‘Cause, well, yes, ’cause the color jello.

Al: Right.

Mat: Every

Miriam: why, right? And he [00:32:00] goes to yoga.

Al: So when you’re eating banana flavored Jello, do you call it Jello Jello?

Miriam: Jello, yeah.

Al: I

Miriam: just got the finger. Oh, shoot. Yeah, yeah.

Al: I’m gonna get so canceled after this ep- … this episode.

Miriam: Oh. Good thing no one’s listening.

Al: I know, right? No one’s listening. Um, anyway.

Miriam: So inappropriate.

Al: I’ve been derailed. Uh- Yes, yeah … thank

Miriam: you.

Al: Thank you for coming. You guys-

Mat: About you.

Al: Yes. Let’s, let’s talk to you, yeah.

How are you? I’m good.

Miriam: You?

Al: Not so

Miriam: bad. I just came off a week where I had to be in at work. Yeah. And now the rest of the summer it’s up to me, work from home or go into work.

Mat: That’s good.

Al: Yeah. Well, what do you, I mean, you’re, it’s off, uh, like it’s not in class right now. No. What are you doing?

Miriam: Um, testing out experiments, getting stuff ready for the fall, so.

Al: Does your department do, like, actual, like, science for, like, research and [00:33:00] stuff like that? Oh,

Miriam: yeah, yeah.

Al: Yeah? Okay.

Miriam: Oh, yeah, yeah. But we don’t have anything to do with that.

Al: No?

Miriam: So I don’t know if you saw, like, I was asking Michelle a question or telling Michelle, like-

Mat: Oh, yes. Juan is still okay …

Miriam: he’s no longer…

Yeah, yeah, he’s still alive. Juan, Juan’s still- Don’t worry

Mat: You understood our concern on that

Miriam: one, right? I haven’t extracted his DNA or, you know, nothing like that.

Mat: We were looking out for you, bud.

Miriam: But you didn’t know, you didn’t think the, the picture was real.

Al: Yeah. So a little background. I think we need to explain to the listeners.

So- That’s right … on the Discord- Uh, Miriam sends this cryptic message to Michelle, who, if you guys, uh, remember, Michelle, he, she’s, uh, she, uh, teaches forensic science in, in, uh, at Laurentian, so she teaches, you know, how to bury bodies and so, or, well- She’s Dexter. Yeah, she’s Dexter.

Victor: She doesn’t teach how to bury bodies.

Al: Or-

Tanya: No. What the hell, dude? Is that what you thought she did? Well-

Al: Are you, are you saying she wouldn’t know how to get rid of a body? Yeah.

Tanya: And not how

Al: to do a murder- Let’s just, let’s just answer- … and not get caught? Yes. I’m sure Michelle-

Victor: We all learned that on Breaking Bad anyway. Yeah.

Al: So anyway, Miriam sends out this cryptic [00:34:00] message on Discord saying, “Hey, uh, Michelle, I’m sending you a, an e- an email about something.”

And we all got very concerned- And it said

Mat: work-related.

Al: Yeah, work. We all got very concerned for Juan. We didn’t know whether Juan was okay. Uh, and so, so then she posted a picture of Juan sitting at his desk smiling. It’s like, well, that could’ve been a, that could’ve been taken any time. You know, he’s, he needs to be holding a, a newspaper.

Wow,

Tanya: conspiracy, eh?

Al: Yeah. He needs to be holding a, a, a newspaper in front of him with today’s date. Oh, my

Miriam: God, really?

Al: And she did. Like, we

got our proof of life. I know, I pull it out of the recycling bag and it was with today’s paper? You’re probably the only one I know who would still have a newspaper. Right? That’s what I thought.

Miriam: Hey, listen, I love the library.

Al: Uh, yes, that’s right.

Miriam: Um- Oh … I love my paper.

Al: Yes.

Mat: We got our proof of life.

Al: Yeah.

Yeah. So we were very, very relieved, Juan, that you were okay and that she wasn’t trying to figure out how to get rid of your body. Yeah.

Miriam: Oh, my God.

Al: Amazing. Thank you so much for coming. Yes. And, uh, uh, hope you have a, a, hope you enjoyed your meal and, uh- Yes, it

Miriam: was amazing … yeah. Thank you, Patreons.

Al: Yes, patrons.

Yes. Thank [00:35:00] you so much. This is all thanks to you

Mat: guys. And, and how, what do you think of the big deck? It’s beautiful.

Miriam: Oh, my God. Is this gonna be the question- It’s so long- … to every person? … and thick.

Mat: Why, why is this not on brand?

Victor: Is this gonna be your question you ask our interviewers from now on, you’d like to know- Well, if they’re on-

Miriam: Well, no, if they’re on the deck

if

Victor: they’re on the deck.

Mat: Yeah.

Miriam: If we

Mat: do this again next year, uh,

Al: that’ll

Mat: be

Miriam: the- We could ask Jared.

Mat: Like, is it long enough, though? I was gonna go a little bit longer, but-

Miriam: No, you know what? Too long is sometimes not very good.

Mat: Okay. Okay. It’s off-putting. It’s off-putting, right? It’s off-putting. Yeah.

Al: It can be a little intimidating,

Mat: right?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Al: Yeah.

Victor: Off-putting, but not off-jello.

Al: Uh, if, if it’s Jell-O, you may wanna see a doctor. If it’s Jell-O, let it mellow. Thank you. Let’s get Linda

Miriam: up here. Yeah, yeah, Linda- Please … maybe bring some, uh- Oh.

Al: Oh, Gord.

Miriam: Oh.

Al: We can’t take you anywhere.

Miriam: He got so excited about the big deck.

Al: Calm down

Mat: there, Gord. And

Miriam: Tom’s gonna get jealous.

Al: [00:36:00] Yes.

Mat: There was an explosion.

Apparently I shoulda made it longer.

Al: Oh, man.

Victor: This is where Matt says, “Get off my deck.”

Al: Yes, get off his deck. Oh, no, there have been worse things built on my deck. Matt, your… Is, is Jen- Jen’s not coming out, I’m pretty sure. She’s- I don’t think she’s going to come out now … she’s just like, “I… There’s no way in fucking hell I’m getting on, on the podcast.”

Let me see. Just

Linda: now? Before we begin, I just wanna say I’m not taking any big deck questions.

Al: No.

Linda: I love that you have that

Tanya: line. Just, like, put it there. That’s where it is.

Al: Yeah, no, there’s no pre-interviews here. No, we’re gonna ask you right, very first question, what’d you think of Matt’s big deck?

Tanya: It was okay.

Al: I appreciate the

Tanya: can- I’ve seen bigger …

Mat: the, the candid

Al: there. I’ve seen bigger.

Mat: That’s okay.

Al: Well, I mean, you know, there are, like, multi-level ones you can do. Yeah, I guess, uh, there’s-

Mat: Multi-level?

Al: Yeah, yeah.

Tanya: I feel like this is softwood.

Mat: Jesus, let’s step in the game.

Al: It’s pine, yeah.

Mat: It’s pine. Can’t afford the oak.

Al: How have you been? It could

Mat: be harder.

Linda: Not bad.

Al: Not bad. Now, you [00:37:00] guys went on a big trip in June.

Linda: We sure did, yes.

Al: And-

Linda: Paris and Amsterdam … and, and- It was amazing …

Al: and you s- yeah. You survived?

Linda: Yes, definitely. Yeah.

Al: More importantly, Victor survived. You didn’t kill

Mat: him.

Linda: You know what?

Victor: And, and we went on a bullet train.

Yeah.

Linda: Yes. Yeah, I was gonna ask about that. And a, and a train trip and a boat trip, so it was great. Mm-hmm. We had a wonderful time.

Mat: How many modes of transportation did you take in this trip?

Linda: Well, we did plane.

Victor: In the, in the multiple digits.

Linda: Yes. Yeah. Plane in the multiple digits, train, and boat, so it was great.

Al: Oh, that’s right. It was great. You had a, uh, that harrowing story. Where were you guys in, in Germany? Uh- You couldn’t get out of Germany? Frankfurt.

Victor: We couldn’t get out of Frankfurt.

Al: Yes. Frankfurt, yeah.

Victor: Yeah.

Linda: Yeah,

Al: yeah. Uh, you, you spent what, two days there or something like that? And you were- Oh … only supposed to be like-

Linda: Well, two days, but it was a long time, and there were a lot of naps taken where you’re not supposed to sleep.

Right. But we just couldn’t keep our eyes open.

Al: Mm-hmm.

Victor: I can give, uh, people tours of that airport

Al: going forward. Yeah. Do you feel you feel like, uh, Tom Hanks in that movie? What, what airport was he stranded in? Yeah, yeah, exactly. [00:38:00] Terminal. Oh,

Linda: the

Victor: Terminal- Terminal, yeah … in New York. Great movie. That is one of my favorite movies.

Great movie. Yeah. Great movie. And I, I love airports. I love to go to airports early. Mm-hmm. So to spend lots of time there and explore. But- We have to be

Linda: the first ones

Victor: there. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yes. But in Frankfurt, we were also the last ones out.

Al: I bet. I mean, yeah, it sounded horrible. I mean, fi- you finally got to your

Linda: destination.

Yeah, no, it was okay. Yeah. I mean, we, we had some good books to read. Oh, yeah. And, you know, we passed the time, you know, eating and having snacks, so.

Victor: It made the rest of the vacation seem blissful. Yeah.

Tanya: It’s, it’s, it’s part of the story though, right? It is. Just like the RV, uh, breaking down, it’s part of the story.

It’s the adventure of- You

Victor: can laugh about it now, for sure, yeah. But at the

Al: time when it was happening- It’s one

Mat: of those you’ll laugh later situations. Exactly, yeah. You laugh later. Yeah. Those are always the best. Yeah. They’re, you can’t find the humor at the moment. Later on- Yeah … you go, “That was awesome.”

Linda: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. But we have another vacation coming. I don’t know if Victor mentioned.

Al: Yeah, you’re going up to The Sault.

Linda: Going to The

Al: Sault,

Linda: yeah. Amazing. Yep. So we’re doing that, um, in the fall. See the beautiful trees change color, and take a train ride there while we’re at it.

Victor: And they have their own skids [00:39:00] downtown that we’re looking forward to s- to- To The

Linda: Sault- Oh, yes

The Sault skids, yeah.

Mat: Yeah. Are you guys gonna fly there or drive?

Victor: Yes.

Mat: Linda, are you going to fly there or drive? Victor?

Victor: We’re flying. Yes. But we’re flying from Billy Bishop, so it’s gonna be a small plane. Mm-hmm. Um, and so that’s gonna be exciting ’cause you feel those a lot more. Um, and, uh, yeah, we’re gonna fly into The Sault.

Spend, I think, five days? Five

Mat: days.

Victor: Five days there. So one day is gonna be devoted to the train trip. Um, and the rest of the time we’re gonna- Billy Bishop. Yeah … do a little, do a little cruise, uh, do some hiking, um, and, uh, discover the locals

Tanya: Does a train rock you to sleep? Apparently Roberta

Mat: Bondar is from Sault Ste.

Marie.

Tanya: Like, is there like a rocking… Like, ’cause you’ve slept on trains. I don’t know.

Mat: I’m passing on information.

Tanya: Does it rock, like the click, click, click, click, click, click of the- I’ve never

Victor: in my life ever slept on a train. Like, why would-

Tanya: No. In going- It’s like- When you went across Canada, you had to have slept Letterkenny chat.

Mat: No, we didn’t go across Canada

Victor: on the train. No, we went on the Rocky Mountaineer, which was from, uh, Vancouver to [00:40:00] Banff.

Tanya: Oh, I thought you did the one across Cana- to, to Vancouver. Well,

Linda: and that’s a, just a day train. So you take the train in the daytime, and then at nighttime they drop you off at a hotel where you sleep.

Oh. And then you meet again early in the morning.

Mat: Does the train roll right into the hotel? Oh my God,

Linda: they have a bedroom? Yes. Um, it’s nearby. Oh. Yeah, it’s very close. Wouldn’t that

Mat: be way better? Like, it just pulls right in. Disney. Yes. Yes. It’s very- Gord, Gord gets it.

Victor: It’s very close. Like you… And, like everything is first class.

You never worry about your bags. The bags wait for you in the room. You get on a bus. It’s, it… I recommend it to anybody. That Rocky Mountaineer trip, one of the best trips I’ve- we’ve ever taken

Linda: Amazing. Yes … all of us. Even if you’re not into trains, it’s really about the scenery, scenery- The experience

about the engineering. Oh, that’s cool. About how they built the rails, drilled through mountains.

Victor: And the first class experience.

Linda: Yes.

Victor: Dining and meeting new people while you eat, and stuff like that. It’s, I don’t know, it’s just amazing.

Al: Have you ever gone on, like a riverboat, uh, cruise? Life for me is a riverboat fantasy.

I feel like that would be something you’d enjoy. Yeah,

Linda: that does [00:41:00] sound interesting.

Victor: Yeah.

Al: Like go down- That would be- … visit Trace and then get on the Mississippi and

Victor: do a river-

Al: Yeah … like

Victor: a paddle boat thing? Yeah. Yeah. We’ve, we’ve, we’ve done it. We’ve done it when we were in New Orleans. Um- Oh, okay. There you go

yeah. So yeah, we fed, uh, alligators with marshmallows and stupid things. Oh, yeah,

Mat: yeah. Right. And hot dogs? And hot dogs. Yeah. ‘Cause that’s what’s good for them- Yeah … is what the guy told us. Yeah.

Linda: No, they try to bring them out, right- Fucking asshole … so that tourists can see them. Right. So they toss them treats, like marshmallows.

Sure. Something that’s soft and easy for them to eat. So they come… They, you know, they see the marshmallows getting thrown out. Yeah. And then they come around.

Mat: Yeah. We called them out on that. We’re like, “I- is that good for them?” They go, “Oh yeah, it’s perfectly healthy for them.” We’re like, “They’re fucking marshmallows.”

Yeah. Like, I’m Canadian. Sugars. We’re a little smarter than that. Yeah.

Al: Uh, Tobias, uh, Victory of Tobias says that in Detroit, the airport has a train in it. Did you know that?

Victor: Um, like a shuttle train that takes you from one terminal to another? He, he

Al: does, he doesn’t

Victor: specify I would imagine that’s what he’s talking about.

Yeah. ‘Cause I, I have been- Well,

Al: don’t, I mean, most airports have trains that go through them …

Victor: yeah, ’cause I’ve been, yeah. I, like the Florida, um, Orlando Airport is the same.

Al: Yeah.

Victor: You, [00:42:00] you take trains from terminal to terminal, so. Uh, but yeah. Uh, good. Tobias, let’s go. Let’s do it.

Al: Well, thank you for joining us.

Thank you. It’s great to see you again, and good luck with this guy here on another long trip. I don’t know how you do it. You’ve got the patience of a saint, I gotta say.

Linda: You know what? He’s amazing, so- … you joke, but-

Al: You have to say that ’cause he said all the am- those amazing things about you during his, uh, interview, so.

Linda: Well, it was very nice to hear, though.

Mat: Listen, no, I, I’ll be honest. W- we’ve hung out a number of times now, and hearing you said and watching, you guys are the love that people need and want. Again, seriously. No, no, I mean it. You guys are, are, it’s a special thing, and it’s very genuine, and I fucking love seeing it.

And I’m so happy for the both of you and all of your years.

Victor: W- we knew from day one.

Linda: I

Mat: know,

Linda: yeah.

Mat: I know, and it’s so obvious.

Linda: Yes. Yeah. And our anniversary is coming up, too. Right. So I don’t wanna just keep talking about it. No, no.

Mat: When’s the anniversary? Can we do an anniversary

Victor: episode? August, August 1st.

Yes. It’s, uh, our 25 years. Oh, it’s

Linda: so many, like- 25. August. Oh, he said it. So many. He said it. I can’t believe. [00:43:00]

Victor: What’s

Linda: that?

Mat: 25, yeah.

Tanya: How many years together? That was married.

Mat: So that’s silver.

Linda: 25. That’s your silver. Yeah, 27 together. 27 together. Yeah. Yes, yeah.

Mat: Get him a silver train.

Linda: Oh, that’s a good idea.

Mat: Thank you.

There he

Tanya: goes. I have a question for you, Victor. So, like any- She’s, like,

Mat: right in his face. I know.

Tanya: Victor.

Mat: 4- 42.

Tanya: Um, any, like, do you- That’s a good answer … do you enjoy going to, like, restaurants that are in trains? Like, those, like, standalo- there’s a, a lot of them now.

Victor: Yeah. I’ve never actually been. I, that’s something- What?

I, it just, it, we’ve never been in a scenario where it was- Yeah … available for us.

Tanya: Every time I see one, I think of you.

Victor: Yeah, no, I’d love to do it. All right. I, I actually, I have kind of these aspirations of living in a train. You know, these people that turn trains into houses. Yes. But you always have to- The tiny

Tanya: houses

Victor: yeah, but it’s always, like, in the middle of nowhere. Right?

Al: Well, you saw that video I sent you of the guy in Toronto who built a, a subway in his basement.

Victor: Yes, yeah. I- I thought that was brilliant.

Al: [00:44:00] Yeah, you haven’t looked him up yet, have you?

Victor: No.

Al: No?

Mat: Was it a subway or

Al: a plane? It was a subway. It was a subway.

Wasn’t there

Mat: someone who made a, turned a plane into a- No, it was a subway. I saw… Okay. I’ll stop. It’s, uh, a train car turned home

Al: What’s, what’s that? It’s in that

Mat: trailer home. Oh, she’s, she’s jumping

Al: ship. No, like it’s somebody living in like a, a row house in Toronto in his basement, basically turned his entire basement into, uh, a, a-

Mat: A

Al: sub

a subway- A subway … station with a subway car, and you can like go in it and sit in it and yeah, it’s bizarre. And it’s in somewhere in, in the city. I’ll … If I can find that video again, I’ll, I’ll share that

Tanya: to you guys. Was that Netflix I was watching and that’s where it wa- It was-

Al: It was one of those like- I think it was Netflix

Extreme Homes kind of things. Extreme. Yeah.

Tanya: Yeah. No,

Al: no, that’s me. Oh. No. Do we wanna talk about … No, let- let’s, let’s go to some of these questions. So I asked our degens on the- More questions … on, on, on the Discord for if they had any questions for us, and our buddy Adrian here. Fo- so question for Friday’s BDE pod.

That’s Big Deck Energy. That [00:45:00] is. Uh, what do you respect- Yeah, it is … what do your respective kids think of you hosting a podcast? So we’ll go around the horn. Uh, first of all, Matt, I mean, uh, we met Caden today. He probably doesn’t understand what’s going on here. He doesn’t have a fucking clue. But what about your other two boys?

Mat: Um, my youngest obviously doesn’t have a clue. He saw people. He s- he was actually pretty, pretty, uh, friendly tonight. He’s been hit-and-miss lately. Mm-hmm. He’s been kind of a dick. Um, but he said goodnight, so that was a big step for him. Um, he doesn’t care.

Al: And what about, um-

Mat: My middle guy- Yeah … also doesn’t care.

He’s 10, doesn’t have a clue. My older guy thinks it’s pretty cool.

Al: Okay.

Mat: Um, he obviously has no idea what Letterkenny is. One day I’ll show it to him, but he, uh, he understands the concept. They’ve listened to podcasts in school. Um, they, they’re very familiar, so he thinks it’s pretty cool, and I, I share a lot of information with him.

I’ll show him random videos and things like that. Um, I, I think he thinks it’s cool, so I’m gonna keep doing it for now until he doesn’t. L. [00:46:00]

Al: Well, that ex- Uh, answers his second question. Is the universe per- pe- perpetually uncool because their parents like it? So.

Mat: No. No.

Al: No.

Mat: Why? Why? Why would it be? I don’t know.

Al: Well, your kids, like-

Mat: What’s the question?

Al: Or do your kids think that- No. No … the universe is uncool?

Mat: Well, they don’t know. Yeah. I mean, this is … I’m gonna let you guys answer that one better- Yeah … ’cause you have, you have kids that are old enough to watch this. Mm. Mine are not. Um, I, I, I would hope that they think that this is pretty awesome.

Yeah. I mean, I’ve, I’ve shown them the pictures and the videos, and I’ve said, you know, “This is the show we, we love, and this is the show we celebrate. And then this is the guy who does all this, and I got to meet him.” And they’re like, “Oh, that’s badass.” I, I think, I think I said badass, probably not him, but- Mm

you know. I think I’m, I think I’m accepted amongst the eldest.

Miriam: So they were excited that-

Mat: What, to meet Al? That’s who? They were. They

Al: were. Of course.

Mat: Have you not met the Podfather?

Al: Yeah. Well, yes, but cuddly. Apparently, [00:47:00] yes. Oh, they don’t know about this. You’re very bare-legged. Stop that. Hey.

Mat: Very bare. No. I didn’t get a hair.

Al: Uh, all right. Well, I’ll let you answer about our kids ’cause you talk to them more than I do.

I don’t-

Mat: Parenting 101.

Tanya: You’re terrible. Um, I, uh, it’s my fear. It’s, it’s my fear that, um, they… Like, obviously-

Al: She, she didn’t wanna bring them tonight- I know … ’cause she didn’t wanna censor herself.

Mat: I, I actually, I, I totally thought they were all coming. I said, “Your kids coming?” And that’s exactly what Al said.

He’s like, “No, Tanya…” Is that right? Yeah, Tanya doesn’t wanna have to censor herself.

Tanya: Yeah Well, because there are- I think old

Mat: enough …

Tanya: moments, no. There are moments that things come out of my mouth- My daughter’s nine … that shouldn’t.

Mat: Is she only nine?

Al: Yes.

Tanya: Yeah.

Mat: Oh, well, yeah, she’s not old enough.

Tanya: No, she’s not old enough.

She’s already- So- I’m

Al: glad you think so.

Tanya: The 16-year-old, um, uh, is very well aware of what we do, and, um, no, and I have, like- Like, this

Mat: isn’t a swinger party or

Tanya: anything, like. I’ve … No, but I just- [00:48:00] Still, we talk about, like, ostriches having sex. L- or, or sorry, people having sex with ostriches.

Mat: Pretty sure that

Victor: was just you.

Did you talk about that with your kids?

Tanya: No. On the show. Oh. I wouldn’t want him to hear that.

Victor: Oh.

Tanya: And, and- Although we don’t

Victor: really talk about

Tanya: that … but it’s not n- it’s not as much him, ’cause, uh, I’m very open with my children and very honest with them and have them honest with me. It’s more having them talk about it with their friends and, and, and his friends- Yeah

you know, if, if-

Victor: Yeah, but, but there’s a difference between 16 and nine. Obviously, with, with- Yeah … um, with, with a nine-year-old, you, it’s, it’s … 16, anything goes

Al: So but here’s the thing. And, and I, and I agree with Tanya in th- in this sense. So my, my son, who’s 16, whenever he has friends over- Yeah … she hides all the TPS stuff.

Yeah. Because a- a- she doesn’t want any of his buddies to l- what is this, listen to it, and then suddenly stumble upon an episode where Tanya’s talking about ostriches fucking, or- The D … or the D, being distracted by the D. Yeah. And then he’s gotta hear it at- Why

Mat: not? ‘

Al: Cause then he’s gotta hear it at school from his buddies.

[00:49:00] Yeah. “Your mom likes the D.” Like,

Victor: your mom likes the D? The chances of them actually taking time to listen to those episodes- Yeah … are slim to none.

Mat: I, I would thought you were gonna say more concerned about getting that call from the principal, like- Oh, that. It could be that, too … “Uh, we’ve heard some weird conversation about your friend’s fucking an ostrich.”

Al: Like. He goes to a Catholic school, so that could be that, too, yeah.

Mat: Yeah. There’s a lot worse things happening in the Catholic school system.

Tanya: And, and I never, and not, like, what, uh, my memory of things that I’ve said are probably more, are probably worse than what I’ve actually said. I don’t know. I have no idea.

Mat: You’ve never said anything too bad. You have been a saint.

Tanya: Right? Sure. But-

Al: What do you guys think on the live stream? Has Tanya been

Tanya: a saint? There, there, I know that there’s been moments where some- I’ve said something, and it, and I just wouldn’t want his friends to hear something and, and then just harass him about

Mat: it.

In, in, in your defense, most of those times, you’ve been more looking for clarification and education on topics- … rather than taking- Well, we talk about- … slight at something …

Tanya: okay, the show itself talks about some pretty- Like, you know, docking, [00:50:00] soaking. Um, um- But we didn’t- There was like- Did you know what it

Mat: was?

Tanya: There was like the, the, the acronym. Remember there was an acronym that I was trying to figure out and, uh, I don’t even remember. Hold

Mat: on. But you just-

Victor: PhD.

Mat: Education.

Victor: PhD. P- Pretty Huge Dick. You know, I’m sure Sue Johanson talked about all those things.

Mat: Oh, s- quick side note, I met the granddaughter of Sue Johanson a few weeks ago.

Oh, yeah? Where? It was very shortly after they announced her, obviously, her death. Mm-hmm. Very sad. I was up at my, actually my tenant’s, uh, cottage, and the neighbors came down. We got talking, and she’s like, “That was my grandmother.” I’m like, “No fucking way.” Wow. Really? I don’t know. I don’t know. Amazing.

Apparently her husband had brought it up and, and it just l- circled in. But it … And I, and I had to ask him, like, “Well, obviously I’m very sorry about your loss,” and she started laughing. She’s like, “My grandmother was amazing.” Yeah. And, and the- She was True … the, the genuine feeling, because I know we’re getting derailed here a bit.

Mm. But I said, “What were those conversations she liked?” She’s like, “Oh, nothing was off, off topic at the dinner table.” Nothing. [00:51:00] “And it was so honest and genuine- Mm … and our family had some of the most hilarious conversations you can imagine.” I’m like, “I’m not, I’m not doubting that in the slightest, but-” Mm. ” … it was a really kinda cool interaction-” Yeah

to have someone.” Oh, yeah. And the love, and you could see how just delighted she was to know what a legend her grandmother was. Um- Yeah, well imagine

Al: that. Imagine having Su- Sue Johanson as your grandmother. Yeah,

Mat: yeah. Oh, amazing. Sorry, it was really cool. Back,

Al: back

Mat: to you. Yeah.

Victor: You’re robbing your f- your Owen’s friend’s kids of that experience.

Mat: Right? Of,

Tanya: of me being Sue Johanson? Well, of some

Al: education. On a caliber. Sure. So, uh, on topic, Trace has a feeling that some of Owen’s friends might already think about you.

Tanya: Oh, ew. Ah. Ugh. Oh,

Al: snap.

Tanya: You know what? It was har- hilarious, Trace. It was hilarious. I didn’t wanna say it, but … So, so, uh, um, pandemic lifts a little bit and, and we have, uh

And, and our son has his buddies over, and he … Our son was mortified ’cause one of [00:52:00] his friends had a T-shirt on that said, “I lo- lo- I like hot moms.” And our son was mortified. He’s like, “Oh my God, did you see the T-shirt?” I’m like, “No, I wasn’t paying attention to the T-shirt.” And the kid had, like, a fedora hat on and the shirt on, and it was just, it was hilarious.

It was hilarious anyway. Who wears

Al: fedoras?

Tanya: I know. It’s

Al: so weird. I tried it once. I tried it once. It didn’t work. I’m just, I wish. I- my head’s too big. Uh, it, fedoras look stupid on me.

Tanya: He would have to get fitted. Yes. He would have to go to the old country to, to, to get fitted for the hat.

Al: Victor, what do your kids think about th- all this?

Um- ‘Cause you’ve got, you’ve got one kid who’s, who’s decidedly more cool than the other. So what does Natalie think about it first?

Tanya: Decidedly more cool.

Victor: Uh, she’s too busy. She- Right … she’s got her own life. Yeah. Uh, you know, she’s now living on, living with, uh, with some roommates.

Al: Sure.

Victor: Um, she just finished school.

She’s got three songs on Spotify now. Yeah, they sound great. She’s, she just started- Amazing … started an internship now in, in some cool company, so. That’s what

Al: I [00:53:00] mean. She’s cool.

Victor: She, she’s cool, and she’s, doesn’t have really time to have an opinion about our podcast, to be honest. But has

Mat: she ever … I’m sure she’s made some comment.

Victor: Not … Just, she just thinks it’s cool, but I can guarantee you she’s never listened to a single episode, and I’m okay with that. Yeah. And it’s also, it’s context, right? She doesn’t watch the show. She doesn’t care n- Sure. She doesn’t know about the show. She doesn’t care about the show. She doesn’t even have the means to watch the show if she wanted to, so, um-

Clip: What?

Victor: Well, she, it’s not like they have Crave. Like, you know, they, they don’t, you know, they don’t, they don’t have these, uh, li- To purchase

Tanya: the-

Victor: A, a fancy, you know, privileged, uh, lifestyles as, uh, roommate, uh,

Mat: you know- What the fuck is he talking about?

Victor: What do you mean? I, I-

Mat: They have a bunch of- I don’t feel privileged ’cause I can-

Victor: They’re a bunch of…

They, they’re, they’re scraping pennies They’re on college funds. They’re scrape- They’re eating Kraft dinner …

Mat: scraping pennies to pay for rent. But they’re definitely sharing- They’re on Kraft dinner … someone else’s account. Yeah,

Al: probably.

Mat: I had Netflix up until that went away. And- I haven’t had Netflix since.

Or they’re pirating. Okay. All right.

Victor: They’re pirating, right? Maybe. All right.

Al: Or they’re getting it from the library, right?

Victor: I’m, I’m trying to not [00:54:00] encourage pirating. Sure. But, but anyway. And

Al: William, what about William?

Victor: Um, so William thinks it, it is cool. Uh-huh. Uh, so he, he didn’t really watch Letterkenny with us, but he watched, obviously, Shoresy, and he loves it.

Sure. Um, and it’s funny that, you know, listening back to the episode zero that, um, our friends broke down- Mm-hmm … which by the way, they did an incredible job. So- That was a great episode … you

Al: listened to it? Yeah.

Victor: Yeah. Um, w- one thing that we talked about was having William on the show. We never actually did that.

Al: That’s right. Yeah. And- That was one of the early ideas,

Victor: yeah … and, and you know what? It wouldn’t have made sense ’cause he never really watched Letterkenny. Uh-huh. But now that, uh, we’re doing Shoresy- Mm-hmm … and he’s actually watched it, he’s looking forward to season two, he’s kind of was, kinda thought it was really cool that we were, we’re, we’re gonna be in, uh, episode three.

And- Oh,

Al: my gosh … yeah, so maybe when we review episode three- Have fun with that … we, we can have William on to talk,

Victor: to- I think that’ll be… Yeah. Yeah. So we’ll definitely need to do that. Okay. Uh, and, um, I think he would be great, a great guest on the show.

Al: All right. Uh, any chance, um, they’ll guest or better yet do a takeover?

Oh, f- this is about the, our kids. Yeah, no. Uh- Oh … well, we were just talking about maybe William, maybe, [00:55:00] uh, Victor’s son-

Mat: Wait, what is that

Al: question? … being a guest. About our, about our kids. It’s just a follow on to the previous question about our kids.

Mat: Riley might be in, might be into it if that’s ever a thing.

Al: Riley? Yeah.

Mat: My oldest guy. Yeah. Okay. He wouldn’t have a clue- … but it’d be funny to watch him- Our youngest … fumble his way through it.

Tanya: Our- Then who would be

Victor: Jonesy?

Mat: Uh- Don’t

Tanya: do this. Too sad … our, our youngest watches all of those, like, YouTube, like, people and, and there was a camp actually this summer that was, like, how to become a YouTuber and I’m, and she wants to take it.

And I’m like, “Hell no. You’re not taking

Mat: that.” So that’s my middle guy. He’s had no experience, but he’s like, “I wanna be a YouTuber when I grow up.” I’m like, “What are you gonna do?” He has n- no answer to that question.

Victor: You shouldn’t say no to anything.

Mat: I didn’t say no.

Victor: You let them do whatever, like-

Mat: I didn’t. I said, “What are you going to do?”

And he had no answer.

Victor: You know, I’ll tell you, like, my kids are now at that age where they’re s- trying to figure out actually what they’re gonna do with their life, and COVID really did a lot to sti- Mm-hmm … stifle them, right? Yeah, yeah. And I’m, like, at this, if, if William came t- like, he just, uh, actually applied [00:56:00] and got into new programs at St.

Anka College. Mm-hmm. Decided to take a, take a U-turn. Um, and, and, and he’s really looking forward to that, but he went through a few months of just, like, a l- torture not knowing what the heck he wanted to do. Sure. Mm. If, if, if they wanna try something- Oh … whether it’s YouTube or anything else- Oh, for sure

just, if, if they, if there’s any iota of interest in anything-

Tanya: Our- …

Victor: just-

Tanya: Yeah …

Victor: just push them.

Tanya: Our youngest wa- wanted to do a podga- well, like, when, when she was figuring out what it was that we were doing, she was probably, like, eight, eight or whatever, maybe last year, and she was like, “I wanna do a podcast.”

And I was like, “Okay. Well, you know, talk to Dad and, uh, maybe you can do a podcast with your friends, and you can talk about the things that are, are going on at, at grade three right now or, or, like, doing an unboxing or whatever.” That

Al: sounds like so much fun.

Tanya: Yeah, I know. And that’s, that’s kind of the reaction that she got from Dad, was the- You never know.

It’s, it’s, it’s a

Victor: gate- it’s a gateway. It’s [00:57:00] a gateway drug. I,

Al: I agree. No, I’m just saying, I, I, I- I agree … I’d love it if they did it, but they would need me to be there to help, and then I’d have to sit there and listen to them. I

Tanya: think it would be great. Yeah,

Victor: that’s right.

Tanya: I think it

Victor: would be great. It’s just like when I have to to- you know, do all the science experiments- Yeah

with my kids and stuff like that. Yeah. You gotta, sometimes, you know, takes an active role as a

Tanya: parent.

Al: That’s your skillset. That’s what you do. Active role, yes. I’ve already been called an absentee father here by, uh, Chad. Thank you, Chad. Um, Matt, Chad, Chad- Well, you did leave, you did leave this whole discussion with, “You talk to the

Mat: kids more.”

Tanya: Yeah. You, yeah, you did.

Mat: Just saying.

Tanya: And, and, and somebody else teaches them, uh, drums and, and bass.

Al: That’s right.

Tanya: That’s right. Even-

Al: But no, but then the girl comes home and shows me what her teacher- The girl.

Tanya: The girl.

Al: The girl. Yeah. Kid, kid number two comes home and sh- Number two. And shows me what- The shit kid

what, what the teacher- No, not the, she’s actually the favorite right now. Uh, and, um-

Mat: Everyone likes taking to number two.

Al: Anyway, we’re gonna move on. Uh, Jeff asked, “Is Matt’s deck as big as he claims?” That’s already been talked about and covered. [00:58:00] Uh, yes, thanks. Well, hold on. We don’t have to breeze over that.

Victor: Okay. Yeah, thanks for coming to the party.

Tanya: I’m, ooh, let’s take guesses on the measurement. I’m gonna say… Hmm, do you know what the measurement is? I

Al: think,

Tanya: I think our deck- Before we start guessing … it

Al: tapers 20 feet long. 20 by 10, right? 20 by, by 10. I, I think

Victor: our deck’s a little bigger and harder.

Al: Is it? 20 feet by 10?

Mat: Uh, it is 20, I think 22 by 10 on one end, but 14 on the other end. 14? It tapers.

Al: Does it?

Mat: Yeah.

Al: Oh, cool.

Mat: Well, yeah. My, my yard’s weird shaped.

Al: Uh, Jeff also asked- It tapers … “Can, can we title this episode A Fuss on the Back Deck?” That, that would- Nailed it … what a great idea. Nailed it. I’ve already named it Big Deck Energy.

Big Deck Energy. But if I’d seen that, I would have totally done that, ’cause that’s a great end- Uh, question from Cassie. Uh, question for each host to answer. What songs have not been featured in the universe, but make you think of it? Uh, if the hosts were to put together a fan-made soundtrack for Letterkenny or Shoresy, what songs would they put on it?[00:59:00]

Uh, let’s start with Victor

Victor: Uh, Decadence Dance Which

Al: Extreme song?

Tanya: Wow.

Al: Yeah, we-

Tanya: That was like a big sigh ‘

Al: Cause I knew, I knew it was gonna be Extreme, and the first song he says is-

Victor: Decadence Dance …

Al: which is Extreme, and he’s so fucking predictable.

Victor: It’s, it’s one of their best songs ever. And it, and- Who’s

Mat: Extreme again?

Victor: Oh,

Tanya: man. Oh, man. You’re getting- I don’t have a translator … other languages going in there now.

Mat: I love when he yells at me. In what language is that? In

Tanya: Russian.

Mat: In Russian. He’s so mad, he won’t even look over here.

Tanya: You know what, though? The light is shining in your eye, so when you were talking about Extreme, your eyes kinda danced a little bit, and it got exciting, and

Victor: it…

It is exciting. I feel, I feel like, I feel like I s- talked more about Extreme- Juan, Juan, give me a beer, please … on our, on my podcast than I did about my own music.

Mat: Yeah.

Al: I love poppers. You didn’t talk about your own music at all during your interview.

Victor: Oh, okay.

Mat: Actually, no, get me a- Give me a Modelo. Get me a Modelo, please.

Victor: That’s Cassie’s fault.

Al: Oh, Ca- You mean Casey.

Victor: I, I [01:00:00] said… I did that on purpose.

Al: I’m sure. Okay. Uh, so cool. Are there any questions from the live audience here? And anyone on live stream, if you have a question, please ask it. Uh, but, uh, why don’t you start? What, what about you, about music?

Mat: Songs? Yeah. So I’m terrible with names of songs, but I definitely…

I mean, my… I’ll take that. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you, Juan.

Al: We should do this all the time. This is- We get, we get drinks

Mat: brought to

Al: us. This is great.

Mat: This is like when we were in Sudbury.

Al: People laughing at our jokes. Look, some… Miriam’s gonna pour wine here for us.

Tanya: This is so-

Mat: Hold on a second … again- We’re, we’re refilling

always so

Tanya: crazy. Thank you so much. Did you

Mat: know you hold it from the bottom? You gotta hold it from…

Tanya: That’s what that- She can hold it wherever- That’s what the thumbprint is for … okay, that’s good. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you I thought

Victor: that was tequila.

Mat: Isn’t that what that’s for?

Victor: It’s got the worm in

Tanya: it.

The worm? Oh, because of the- She, she’s holding it by the sh- the shaft. You, you, you prefer it once you hold it by

Al: the

Mat: base? Thank you, Juan.

Al: Okay.

Mat: Juan is correcting you. He’s… I didn’t g- I will drink any beer you put in my… Well, that’s not true. That’s not true.

Tanya: Give

Mat: us.

Tanya: But

Mat: what are we… What’s the… Oh, about music.

So I’m terrible with names of [01:01:00] songs. Mm. I love, I fucking love music. Every- Ooh, let’s

Tanya: play name that song.

Mat: But, but no, and you know, I listen to games like that on the radio all the time, where it’s like name that song, and I can sing along to most of them, but I can never tell you the name. But there are a couple random ones that I just love.

Um, they’re not Canadian, which I feel like fits the tune, but one is Let the Drummer Kick by Citizen Cope Um, is a, is a cli-, is a, is a fantastic rhythm to it. I think it would find a place in there. There’s another one that’s totally musical called Tadaw by Masego and FJK, I think it is, and it’s one of those weird…

It’s, it’s, it’s totally instrumental. There’s a wicked music video online of these guys just- Thank you so much, brother. I, I

Victor: think she’s the one that wrote the Harry, Harry Potter books.

Mat: No, no, it’s, it’s two guys. And, and the music video online for these guys, the song called Tadaw, T-A-D-O-W. I just love watching the video.

You watch them basically create this song. Um, I just think it’d be something fun and cool in the background of one of the scenes. Hmm. Um, I’ll put it on later after we [01:02:00] record if you want. It’s, uh… But yeah, I, I find these random ones that stick with me, and that’s one of them for sure. Cool. So it’s not mainstream by any means.

And, and that Citizen Cope song, um, Let the Drummer Kick, is one of my favorite songs. It was featured in, uh, the movie Acceptance, if you remember that. It was like a comedy years ago with, like, Justin Long and a few others. Ridiculous, but- It’s a, that’s where I got it from. I take a lot of weird m- songs that I find from scenes in movies and, uh- That’s one that stuck with me.

So that’s a couple songs I call out

Al: Can you think of any?

Tanya: Um, I wa- I wanna hear, like, a Dolo song.

Al: Well, there’s a bunch- It’s been done … on, on Shoresy,

Tanya: yeah. I mean, we’re pro-Dolo. On Shore- on Chose- Shoresy.

Al: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, there’s been a few, and there’s gonna be more in the

Victor: new season. Yeah. Oh, a, a quick Dolo- From his new album

a quick Dolo reference You’re right. Mm. So my son was playing NHL ’16 the other day.

Al: Is he in it?

Victor: He’s in it.

Al: Yeah?

Victor: All right. He’s in it. He’s in it. His picture’s in it.

Mat: In what?

Tanya: That’s awesome.

Victor: NHL ’16. So I… We’re in NHL ’23 right now. Mm-hmm. ’24 is [01:03:00] coming out soon, but NHL ’16 has Dolo in the game.

Tanya: Oh, that’s cool.

Wow.

Mat: And, and I- I totally misheard the beginning

Victor: of that story And I, and I wonder if he knows, and I, I would imagine that he probably doesn’t know because it’s, like, the- No,

Tanya: he’d know …

Victor: no, because the deal is with NHLPA, which is the players association, not with each individual player. Right. So he may not even know that he’s in the game.

Tanya: There would be, like, an email or a message or a letter, whatever-

Victor: Maybe, maybe …

Tanya: sent that says, “

Victor: Hey” If he’s not a gamer, then he wouldn’t, he wouldn’t even know,

Tanya: right? All right. Send, send him a DM.

Victor: Yeah, we’ll need to ask him.

Al: Aaron’s got a really cool question here. Uh- Oh, Aaron … dream scenario, what does UCon look like for you?

Meetups, panels, cosplay, et cetera? Uh, and how does it feel when people share the… Okay, we’ll, we’ll do that one first, and I’ll, I’ll do qu- part two after. Like Yukon- So Con, if we’re gonna do it- …

Mat: the place in, in Canada? No, no, no.

Al: We’re gonna do… Oh, UCon.

Mat: Why would you think that?

Tanya: The Universe Con. Oh. Like a Comic-Con.

UCon.

Al: So if there was [01:04:00] a convention of Letterkenny and Shoresy, a- and, you know, if we were involved in it, what, what would, what would-

Tanya: Why would we be involved in

Al: it? Why not? We’re a podcast about it. We would absolutely have a booth. Uh-

Tanya: Shut up. That’s weird. Why?

Al: Why? Why wouldn’t

Victor: we have a booth? We’d have a booth.

Tanya: Why would we have a booth?

Victor: No, our booth would be a bro-duce stand.

Mat: May- maybe we would be the panelists, uh, interviewing people on- Yeah, that’s right … the pa- on the stage. Yeah, that’d be great.

Tanya: That would be so fun.

Mat: We could be the interviewers of the cast as they came up.

Tanya: That would be fun.

Mat: That… So does that make more sense to you?

Tanya: That would be fun.

Victor: Oh.

Tanya: Oh my God. So, so what’s the

Victor: question about the

Tanya: potatoes? Potatoes. It’s not Yukon. The Un- Do you guys wanna start

Al: throwing things

Victor: at him?

Mat: Feel free. This is, this is not gold.

Al: No,

Mat: this- Get it? Yukon Gold.

Al: Oh, man, don’t. You’re-

Mat: That’s encouraging

Tanya: him. Stop. But it worked.

Al: I love that idea. I love the idea that we’d be there, like, to interview the, the people.

That’d be kinda fun. Fucking guy. Like, [01:05:00] you’re encouraging this behavior. Um, okay. Yukon Gold. Part, part two of, of Aaron’s question here was how does it

Tanya: feel- What was the que- But did we even answer it? I think- Yeah … there was, like, a lot of potatoes being

Al: thrown around. I know. What… Okay, what would a convention look like for, for Letterkenny and Shoresy people?

Like, your dream convention. Like, first of all, where … W- would it be up in Sudbury? Would it be … I guess, that- Sudbury … that makes sense to be in Sudbury, right? Yeah.

Mat: I, I think it would be an outdoor convention, ’cause most of them are indoors. I think this one would ha- would make sense outdoors. I

Victor: think we’d be playing shinny.

Al: Yeah. I was about to say that. There should be, like, a, a ball hockey tournament or, or a hockey tournament. Yeah. That’d

Mat: be- There’d be … There would definitely be bars, multiple.

Al: Mm-hmm.

Mat: Three.

Al: What about like an- Moguls one, two,

Mat: and three …

Al: an anti-beauty pageant. You know, like they did in, in the International Women’s Day.

Universe.

Tanya: Yeah. No, you’re think- oh, well, Universe, okay. Yeah.

Al: Anything else? What, what’s

Victor: part two?

Al: All right, part two is … Sorry, it’s really small.

Victor: Let’s move on.

Al: Uh, how does it feel when [01:06:00] people share the positive impact you’ve had in their lives? You are celebrities in their circle. Um, in our circles, which are you

Do your coworkers know how cool you are? No, absolutely not.

Clip: Not a fucking chance.

Al: S- I try. I try to tell them, but they don’t give a shit. Um, yeah, it’s … Of course it’s cool. Whenever we hear somebody say, you know, we helped them through a pandemic or, or they just look forward to logging in on Thursday nights.

Uh, w- we got a bunch of that on Discord today, saying, you know, when we weren’t on last night for an after party, they’re like, “Oh, are we gonna get together and do an after party?” ‘Cause they’ve … It’s, it’s part of their week now. They, they look forward to it. So that’s really cool. And, uh-

Tanya: And that it’s continued even as things are opening up- Mm

and, and, you know, your world is, is been expanded yet again, right? Yeah. That, uh, this is, this is still something that, uh, comes back to them, us, everyone. Agreed. What do you …

Al: How do you feel?

Mat: It’s, uh … No. No? N- no. No, what I mean by that is [01:07:00] it’s … Like, I mean, you make comments like we helped some people through pandemic, um- Mm

people look out. No. I mean, I’m glad. I’m glad, but the exact opposite is true-

Tanya: Yeah …

Mat: in the fact that, like, when the pandemic hit, Al, when you gave me the call saying, “Do you wanna do this?” And I said yes, it was one of the greatest decisions I ever made.

Clip: This was our-

Mat: Right? … our lifeline. I never would’ve dreamed that we would’ve come to this, this far.

It’s something I genuinely look forward to, and I know you tell me I cry, and you’re not wrong- … ’cause I get very emotional. Oh,

Al: you heard that, did you?

Mat: Oh yeah, I heard. I loved his interview. I abso- If you haven’t listened to Victor’s interview yet, it is … I don’t, I don’t even, I r- … Yeah, it’s by far the best of the four.

We all knew. It’s amazing. Yeah. Um, but-

Tanya: Truly …

Mat: it, it’s It’s been pretty wi- it’s been a wild journey. And so I’m [01:08:00] glad and I’m so grateful that people have connected with us and we built this community. And Victor, when you talked about the community being some of the best parts, I 100% agree. Mm-hmm. I mean, I never would’ve envisioned anything like this.

Al seemed to have a plan the whole time. I had hopes. Didn’t know about- I had hopes … didn’t know about that. But- But it’s, I’m- … I’m so grateful and thankful- Yeah … and I always am. And I, and I hope it can continue to find ways to make this go as long as it can, because this is the greatest part of my week, most weeks.

And things, I know I talked, like even like a year ago, you know, I’ve s- I have my struggles. Everyone has a struggle. Mm-hmm. Tanya, you’ve talked about yours. Mm-hmm. This is a great release, a place to be open, to be- Mm-hmm … vulnerable, to have fun and laugh and hang out with people that are amazing, and people I never would’ve crossed paths with- Mm-hmm

without this show. So it’s- Mm … just as much reciprocated, um, in every sense that it could be. So yeah. Mm-hmm.

Al: Well put. Uh, Jeff here asked if, uh, Tanya and I have used that- What the hell is that? … uh, has played that [01:09:00] Ted Lasso board game yet It was just a fly

Tanya: It was jumpy

Mat: Was it a spider?

Al: Anyway, Jeff asked if we’ve played his Ted Lasso board game yet, the one he brought up as a gift.

Uh, we have not yet, because we haven’t found any friends who watch the show yet. Mm-mm. Yeah. We had Mike-

Mat: I’ll play …

Al: we had some friends over the- Do you play… Do you watch Ted Lasso? No, well, you have to come over to watch it to play it

Tanya: though. Oh,

Al: we should’ve brought it on to play Jeff. Yeah, we should’ve brought the damn game.

Mat: What?

Al: Why don’t you come up? We’ll do a games

Mat: night. Oh,

Tanya: I love that. Okay Games night. Yes.

Mat: Please, can

Tanya: we do it?

Al: All right.

Tanya: Can we have a dinner party?

Al: Uh, so we’ll record the podcast and then play games or-

Tanya: Ooh.

Mat: It isn’t al- I mean, we can d- it doesn’t always have to be a b- Why can’t we just be friends?

Al: Shut, shut your face, Matt.

Tanya: Why can’t we just be friends?

Al: You just use

Tanya: me for our

Al: voices.

Tanya: Wait, wait, wait. That’s- Let’s just record Matt. He might say something.

Al: Um-

Tanya: Don’t come over unless you’re being recorded.

Al: No. Walk out. Okay, we’re at ni- the 90-minute mark. Do we have any other questions or any ground to cover? Guys, do you have any questions over here in the peanut gallery?

Tanya: No. I j- I just wanna [01:10:00] reflect. Mm-hmm. The, the, the way that Matt did. I have a very vivid memory of, of being in lockdown and being, uh, working from home and, and literally having my desk underneath the stairs. And the only thing that separated your, uh, office from my office was the, the door. Mm-hmm. And hearing everything.

And I remember you listening back to the podcast, and it was very early on. And, um, I remember you having a conversation with Matt, ’cause you guys work together, and you guys, like, had a, an office meeting, but it really was just talking about the podcast. That’s excellent. And you guys were like-

Al: We’re not on the same team, so if we’re talking to each other at work- We, uh- Yeah

it’s about the podcast. And

Mat: for the record, we have never worked on the same team. No,

Tanya: never. Yeah. And, and I think it was, like, a reference that, like, we’ve had, like, seven people have listened- Oh, wait … or nine people have listened.

Mat: Oh, never mind. Yeah. I thought there was a train coming.

Tanya: Damn it. It, it was, like, a, it was, like, seven or nine people had listened, and- That’s been a long episode

and, and I [01:11:00] remember sitting there and, and, like, counting on my fingers, “Okay, there’s, like, us, and then, like, Linda maybe,” and then, like, trying to figure out who the seven or nine people were. Mm-hmm. And then that, like, fast-forwards to then hearing somebody reference, um, that they were listening to us on the way to work.

And-

Mat: That tripped you out …

Tanya: that tripped me out huge. I’m like, “Whoa, wait a second. Somebody’s listening to our conversation.” I’m like- … yeah, that was weird And, and now, and then, and now it’s like fast-forward again. It’s like this just keeps on growing and growing and growing. So grateful, like the takeover team and like the, the family.

It’s, it’s become-

Al: The trips to Sudbury …

Tanya: the trips to Sud- like, which was never gonna happen. Never gonna do that, but it was like-

Al: Over your dead body …

Tanya: shit or get off the pot. That’s what I say. So I, I said, “You know, if we’re gonna do this, let’s do it all the way.” And, and, you know, spreadsheets here we come, and we went and, and we did it [01:12:00] twice, not just once.

And now, like,

Al: now- And we’re probably going back there in the fall when Shoresy’s shooting again.

Tanya: And, and, and, and I, I dare say I’ve already been saying, “Okay, we need to do another road trip, and it needs to be down south, and we need to go visit our friends.” And I’m like, that needs to be-

Al: So folks, uh, you know, our listeners in the US, you have no idea what, what a big deal this is for Tanya to say this, ’cause she hasn’t wanted to cross that border since-

Tanya: Oh, no

Al: since the beginning of CO- COVID. Oh, no. And, uh, the fact that she’s even entertaining the idea of going down- Oh, yeah,

Tanya: don’t think that this is a thing yet. ‘Cause like it’s only- It’ll take her some time to warm up to the idea … it’s only a seed. Like, let it blossom, ’cause yeah, that’s gonna take some time to grow.

But-

Al: We’ll have to find a, a TP- If you wait

Mat: too long, Trump will get reelected.

Tanya: Oh, shit. Oh. Wait,

Mat: don’t say such horrible things.

Tanya: Oh.

Al: So-

Mat: GPS US road

Tanya: trip one?

Al: Yeah. I mean, we’ll have to- Right? W- so, uh, on this livestream- No … what state is a good kind of… Well, actually, we have world traveler Gord here. What state would [01:13:00] be a good one to be, like where people can, you know, drive in from?

I’m thinking like Indianapolis or something, you know? Like I know it’s a horrible state, but in terms of then people from

Mat: can come- No. Can we at least pick a fun state?

Tanya: Where do I not need to put Avlar on?

Al: Michigan?

Tanya: Avelar? Avelar Vest? Kevlar. Kevlar. Kevlar?

Mat: Avelar? Avelar.

Tanya: Avelar is what- Sounds like- … what you and Al use

Mat: sounds like- That’s

Tanya: when you

Mat: go and get medication, but they give you the knockoff brand

Al: Tobias says he’ll meet us in Buffalo. Michigan. Uh, Trace says, “No, no Mississippi at all.” Mississippi? No, not Mississippi. Michigan’s,

Tanya: like, too close to us still. Like, that’s not very

Mat: central for- I think we need to do a bit of a plot of where all of our friends are in the US and find the middle of them all

Victor: I think we should go to Cincinnati.

Mat: I’d go to Cincinnati.

Victor: Yeah. I mean, I’d go to Cincinnati. Because, uh, you know, Fiona and Fritz.

Al: Oh, the zoo. I was thinking WKRP. Is there, like, a museum there?

Mat: Oh, I think- This is a selfish move on

Victor: Victor’s part … they, they have the rock and roll, um,

Al: Hall of Fame. That’s,

Mat: uh, that’s Cleveland.

Victor: Oh, Goddammit. Cleveland rocks.

Well, they don’t have the zoo, but they have the zoo.

Tanya: That’s cl- yeah. Just do

Al: [01:14:00] Buffalo. Buffalo?

Mat: No.

Al: It’s not,

Tanya: it’s not- Nobody

Mat: wants to go to Buffalo We’re not

Victor: going to Buffalo for fun. I, I thought Buffalo was kinda like the armpit.

Mat: We’re going for the TPS. And what are we gonna do while we’re doing TPS? Have- It’s just a TPS conference Drink.

Al: Fun with the word, Miriam.

Mat: Drink in Michigan. I’m telling you, Michigan. We’re not going to Buffalo.

Al: Michigan. Trace says Cincinna- Cincinnati would be cool, and that’s in Ohio. That’s about an eight-hour drive from us. Is

Mat: it safe?

Al: Yeah, it’s

Mat: relatively. It’s a very pretty looking city from the outside.

Victor: Oh.

Everything is safe as long as you just stay out of trouble.

Al: Uh- I love it … Trace says it’s basically North Kentucky. I don’t… Okay.

Mat: That doesn’t really mean

Al: much,

Mat: Trace. That, that makes sense. I went through Cincinnati after hitting the urban trail in Kentucky

Anyways,

Victor: a lot of talk here Also, Seattle

Al: has a hidden beach The only reason I was thinking in the, in Indianapolis is our buddy Jason Eickert is there, and he can maybe recommend- Oh, we may have a hookup at a hotel Yeah, we could maybe have a hotel hookup. Oh, yeah. It’s Conrad. There’s no way you’re staying at Conrad.

Well, it wouldn’t be Conrad, but I mean, who knows? It’s way better.

Mat: Is that where-

Tanya: Is [01:15:00] this ha- is it, like… Yeah.

Mat: Conrad is,

Al: like, the highest. Um. And, and we’re not talking, like, a peak season. We would, like, pick, like, February or something to go out.

Mat: Jason Eickert is, is, is, is hitting with bougie people?

Tanya: Bougie.

Al: Well, he- He’s like the best hotel Good for you, Jay. Well, he’s security at that

Mat: hotel. I, I get it, but he still has to interact with these people.

Tanya: Well, they do have, like, art that is, like, security monitored

Mat: Okay.

Al: It’s a hub city. Okay. That’s kind of why I was thinking, but no, you know. No.

Mat: I, we’re, we’re

Al: leaning on our- Gord, Gord will not be-

Canadian, uh- Yeah, Gord will not be joining us if we go to, uh- … world traveler … Indianapolis. Uh, I mean, we’re getting some love here for Cincinnati, so that might be-

Mat: Are we getting- Maybe we- oh … are we getting a bus? You know what? Who wants to come? No,

Tanya: we’ll get an

Mat: RV. Yeah, we’re not flying. No, we need an RV. No.

At least… I mean, they’re all, those were, that one was in Newfoundland, right? So. We’ll get an RV. Is there a train that goes

Gord: to

Al: Cincinnati?

Victor: We’ll

Mat: just

Al: call me up. Probably not. We can go to sh- Chicago’s another hub city, right? But that’s a city city. That’s Aaron. This is for Aaron. Yeah, Aaron would be there, but I mean, then we’d, we’d be paying[01:16:00]

for- Chad. Chad can get there. So Chicago’s a good candidate?

Victor: Yes. No. Well, I, but I’ve, I’ve been to Chicago. That doesn’t sound safe. I haven’t been to Cincinnati. Chicago has a safe zone, and it has a angry zone. Yeah. Okay. You stay in the safe zone.

Mat: And they have a bean.

Victor: They do have a bean, yes.

Mat: It’s- But can you find it?

But it’s put

Tanya: sober. I’ve,

Victor: I’ve

Tanya: done New York City. Once. I’ve done New York City. I just repeat that to myself- One time. That’s all I needed … over and over. New York

Victor: City’s too busy.

Tanya: I’ve done that, okay.

Al: Anyway- You’ve actually done it

Mat: three times … w- it’s something we’ve talked about. And he said found the bean the other two.

Yeah. So don’t get excited yet. But I got a deck out of it.

Al: Don’t, don’t get excited yet, but, but-

Tanya: I just, I just think that that would be-

Al: It would be fun, of course … it would

Tanya: be- Yeah … so much fun. Could do- I’m, I’m, I’m, I’m fantasizing …

Al: you’re, she’s warming up to it, so all I have to do is- I’m fantasizing … start the spreadsheet, and Tanya will finish it.

Tanya: No, you can’t start a spreadsheet worth a damn.

Al: I’m gonna start it so you can finish it.

Tanya: I am the spreadsheet.

Mat: We’ll, we’ll make a podcast about starting a spreadsheet. That’s gonna

Tanya: be- So we’ll put this- … the lowest listened episode … in this column.

Mat: It’ll get Tanya motivated, so.

Al: All right. Uh, let’s, uh, let’s go around the horn with final comments, and then [01:17:00] let’s wrap this sucker up.

Uh, what was the lineup again? Oh, it was Tanya first.

Tanya: Matt- … I just gotta say, I, I love the way you, you laid your, your wood- … in this direction. And, oh, I just got another bug in my hair.

Victor: Is this for your son’s

Mat: friends? She, she loves the way… Sorry, Miriam couldn’t hear. She loves the way I laid my wood. I, I was listening to every word.

But then she got a bug in her hair. This- That’s not, that’s not reflective on myself.

Al: My wife is easily distracted.

Clip: That’s

Mat: not reflective of my big deck.

Clip: Your d- your big deck gave me bugs.

Mat: Fuck. I’m so impressed. There’s a cure for that, I’m sure. There’s a cream, yeah. There’s a cream. Oh, shit. There’s a cream.

I didn’t stain it this year. It’s

Tanya: okay, buddy. We’ve lost Victor. It’s okay, buddy. Oh, man. it’s gonna be in my hair. You gotta pick it out. Um-

Mat: I should’ve shaved.

Tanya: No, [01:18:00] this was phenomenal. Thank you so much, Matt, for inviting us and, uh, and to, um, uh, your Mrs. Jen, uh, sh- phenomenal. She

Al: won’t come back out here- She won’t

’cause she knows we’ll ask her to sit up in the chair.

Mat: That is exactly the answer.

Tanya: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, thank you

Al: so much. That’s too bad. I was looking forward to asking her some questions. You- Yeah.

Mat: I tried to coax her out through some texts, and she’s like, “Not a chance.” It’s- She knows better. She’s like, she talks a big game, but when you try to get her into a hot seat like this and she sees the lights and the mics, she’s, “Not a fucking chance.”

Tanya: This is, this is perfect though, truly, truly. Like, the, the food was great. The deck was great. The, the friends were great. When, and the s- and, you know, what w- no f- no, uh, rain. The only thing that we’re missing is a bloody train. Where the f-

Mat: Yeah.

Al: Yeah.

Mat: I’m sorry. I promised more trains.

Al: Well, when we were here, it was during the week.

That’s why. There’s a commuter trains, I guess.

Tanya: But this is Friday. This is- Isn’t it? Sorry, this is Friday. It’s Friday.

Al: Well, is today Friday? It is Friday. What the fuck?

Tanya: It is Friday.

Mat: The- I expected more trains.

Al: There was, like, a train every 15 minutes. [01:19:00] If you check the GO schedule, there’s nothing coming up here.

Mat: Really? Really? That’s so bizarre. Sorry, Victor. I got you one. You saw one.

Al: Yeah, he saw one, but w- we didn’t, we didn’t get- I’m sorry … Victor losing his shit dur- in the recording. We’ll have to do it again another day. Well… Go on, finish your thing. I’m sorry, Victor.

Tanya: I just wanna say, yeah, and thank you to you.

You guys are great. I love that we had a panelist here and guests coming to the hot seat, and this was phenomenal. This was so great, and the listeners and it’s just, it’s always just so amazing to, to, uh, chat with everyone.

Mat: Matt? Yeah. Thank you everyone for coming. I’m so glad this worked out. I wa- I was genuinely worried as the week went on, we were, we were seeing rain, rain, rain.

Al and I were having continuous conversations about moving it into the garage, which would’ve- Yeah … my big garage is not, not as nearly as exciting. It’s a little dirty. Um-

Al: I gotta say, though, I’ve got a bit of garage envy. You do have a- It’s big.

Mat: It’s big. Yeah It is

Tanya: a big garage.

Mat: It’s big, but- It’s a very nice b- big garage

it’s b- it’s seen, it’s seen some shit. [01:20:00] So- Um, it wouldn’t have been nearly as exciting as being on the deck. Um, but, no- Is it a

Tanya: s- is it a soft close?

Mat: Not a fucking chance. Oh, no. That thing doesn’t even have a safety sensor. Like, it’s like, just watch out for that garage. Just-

Al: It’ll kill you if,

Mat: uh- There’s a 50/50 chance you don’t come out of that garage.

Al: It’ll cut you in half.

Mat: But the weather held out. Yes. The people came. We had a blast. The food was good. I am openly saying this is available any time we wanna do this. Um-

Al: Yeah. I think it was… it worked out really well. Yeah. And the setup wasn’t that tough and stuff. No.

Mat: Yeah. No. Um, thanks to everyone. Thanks to listeners.

Thanks for paying in, uh, paying attention and listening to us. And-

Tanya: And I have to ma- I have to just point out that you’ve got the picture. So when we went to- That’s right. We never talked about it at all … Sudbury. No, we got- Go get it, Matt … w- when we went to, when we went to Sudbury this first time and we had the, the…

Don’t knock a Ribera And, uh, when we went to, to Sudbury the first time, we, uh, were able to go to [01:21:00] set, and it was a, it was like a whirlwind and a surprise to, u- us. And you picked this up from the-

Al: So at the Capreol Arena, they had a bunch of stuff- Capreol … the, the Capreol Arena, sorry. They, they were giving away-

Tanya: Matt should’ve been behind us the whole time

a

Al: bunch of things, uh, like, like props and, and old set dressings.

Tanya: Oh, my

Al: God. And Matt picked this up. So this-

Tanya: And I was like, “Why the f- are you picking up a, like a huge picture?”

Al: Yeah, this picture was in some episode of Letterkenny.

Tanya: Of like eggs, bacon, salad, and toast. And

Al: it says- And it stuck … the Dine and Dashboard.

We, you, you gotta think that this was a, a

Tanya: din- Like, don’t, like it wasn’t a memorable picture- No, no … uh, by any

Al: means. It’s a really cool picture, though. I, I bet you Danny Ellis had a, had something

Tanya: to do with that picture. But you know what? I love that you put that out tonight. And that just meant something to me, so thank you for that.

That was a, that was a great memory. You’re welcome. Oh, where’s your pot? Where’s- It’s over

Mat: there. It’s, it’s growing, uh-

Al: Your pot …

Tanya: is it now?

Al: It’s

Mat: growing cucumbers.

Tanya: Oh, okay. Yeah, you had also picked up a- A barrel. Yeah … a [01:22:00] barrel.

Al: Oh, okay. I thought it was that kind of party. Um- In my car.

Tanya: No.

Mat: Well, we have, I have gummies inside and other-

Tanya: No, no

Mat: fun stuff.

Al: All right. Uh, thank you, Matt, for hosting tonight. It is, it’s a, it’s a great venue.

Tanya: Sorry, I cut- Love it … I cut you off. You- Did you just

Mat: hear that? He described me as a venue.

Al: No,

Mat: I described- And I’m not, I’m not mad

Al: about it at all … I described your deck as a venue. I’m not … No,

Mat: it’s okay. You said

Al: what you said.

You- I’m not mad … well, then let me say- … a venue … you’re a, a great host, and this is a great venue. Thank you for having us. A

Mat: great venue.

Al: And, uh-

Mat: Would you say it’s a big venue?

Al: I’m giving it a qualitative assessment, not a quant- You fucker. It’s been fun. The food was great. The company has been amazing. Uh, if we do this again, well, you know, maybe we can add to the numbers.

Tanya: I’m gonna, I’m gonna have to, uh, you know, see if you can erect a deck on my, uh, backyard.

Al: Oh, boy.

Tanya: In my yard.

Mat: Al’s staring at me as you ask me that. It’s a little scary.

Al: Can I finish?

Tanya: I could-

Al: Can I, can I, can I finish?

Tanya: I could really use [01:23:00] a big deck.

Al: So- She could

Mat: really

Al: use a finish … thank you, Matt, for, for- … for hosting.

This may be the last time we come over. Um- … it’s been fun, and I hope you guys enjoyed this. Happy third-year anniversary. This is kind of our proper, you know, celebration of three years- Yes … of doing this. Mic cheers. Mic cheers. Mic cheers.

Tanya: Vic- Victor hasn’t gone yet.

Al: Yeah. Victor, it’s, it’s up to you now.

Victor: All right.

I’ll make it quick. Mm-hmm. Um, Matt, thank you for your hospitality. Uh, you brought really low train energy. Uh-

Mat: I, I apo- I’m so sorry. We’ll do it on a Thursday. Yeah. There’s lots of train energy.

Victor: Yeah. Uh, your deck, uh, from a qualitative point of view, was great. From a quantitative point of view, it’s just okay.

Um- It’s

Al: 5.15 inches.

Mat: Perfectly average. 5.15. I tell my wife on a regular basis I am perfectly sized.

Victor: In the dick. Um, anyway. Wow. Uh, this was [01:24:00] fantastic. Um, I, I, I can’t wait ’til we do something like this all again.

Al: Mm.

Victor: And I, you know, you guys are invited to our place as well. Yeah, you

Al: have a nice deck

Victor: too. We have, we have a ni- it’s, it’s cement.

So it’s a little harder. Oh,

Al: it’s

Victor: a

Al: patio.

Victor: Uh, it’s, it’s-

Al: Is that what the difference is between a deck and a patio? Well, I would, I

Victor: would say it’s a patio. Well, it’s a, it’s a deck. A deck is wood. It’s a deck, it’s a deck-patio combo.

Mat: No. Is there

Victor: wood? You start… Yes. Is there any wood? Yes. You start out on the deck- That’s right

and you, and you flow out into a patio.

Mat: So it’s a hybrid.

Victor: It’s a hybrid. Um-

Al: Can we talk about how microphones work, Victor?

Victor: So, um, I have to show with my hands what happened. O-

Al: okay.

Victor: Cool. Anyway.

Al: Go

Victor: on. Uh, the stand is a little low. Mm-hmm. Um, anyway, so, uh, really looking forward to doing this again. We, the peanut gallery, uh, what a surprise to have everybody here, uh, ev- including, uh, my wife.

Al: Mm-hmm. Was a surprise. Did you know she was coming?

Victor: It was a game time decision. Um, anyway.

Al: Are you happy you came, Linda? Yes, I am. All right. Good. We’re happy you came as well. [01:25:00]

Victor: Anyway, all right.

Al: All right. Let’s, I’m gonna call, uh, play us off here with, uh, Feel Blessed, because that’s how we feel right now, by Joe Dollo.

That’s not it. That’s the fucking Diabolical Comedy. One job,

Clip: Al.

Tanya: One job. Uh, you’re doing a mashup?

Al: I’m doing a mashup.

Al: Shoresy, this song? No, this is his new, uh… This, this was released in June of this year.

Mat: Oh, mixing it up.
