This past Friday was the first major snowfall of the year. We got 6 inches dumped on us in about 5 hours!
Coincidentally, that morning I also drove into work instead of taking the train like I usually do. It took me 4 FREAKING HOURS to get in to work! I left at 7:30 and arrived at 11:30. This picture is what I saw for 4 straight hours that morning. I never went over 20 km/hr. (that’s about 12.5 mi/hr.) Kill me now!
Now I know I don’t have anyone else to blame for this but myself. I should have checked the forecast, but I have NEVER taken that long to get to work EVER! Even in a major snow storm the longest it has ever taken me is 2-2.5 hours.
It’s funny (and by funny, I mean sad) that every year the same thing happens in this province. The first real snowfall hits and people forget how to drive in the winter. I mean c’mon people…this is CANADA! Snow happens! It’s like they’re taken by surprise by it or something…

John: Whoa! What’s that white stuff falling from the sky?
Jane: I don’t know, in my entire life in this country, I’ve never seen anything like it.
John: Hey, it feels kind of slippery when I drive on it.
Jane: We must need new tires…strange we just bought these tires.
John: It’s the white stuff, it’s making us veer off-the road.
Jane: Why don’t you go faster so you can plough through it.
John: That’s a great idea! Boy, look at all these idiots going slowly on the highway…they’re so clueless!

The sad part of the above dialogue is that usually, these dumb-shits are the ones who SURVIVE the 54-car pile-up.
One final observation on my trek to work Friday morning. As I passed the other cars, I took a good, hard look at each and every driver and it boggled my mind how little attention people were actually paying to the road in front of them! People read, shave, do their hair, get dressed, apply makeup, eat and drink while driving on the highway! I swear I saw one woman putting her contacts in…WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY!

I on the other hand, direct 100% of my attention to the road ahead of me; as this picture of me behind the wheel on Friday morning clearly shows.

What are you thinking?
