Clip: [00:00:00] That fresh produce stand there, that’s a beauty.
Tanya: What do yous listen to?
Robby: My Favorite Murder podcast. Taggart and Torrens podcast. The Produce
Tanya: Stand. Ah, fucking sexy.
Al: It’s finally Friday, and that means we are once again hanging out at The Produce Stand, the podcast covering everything in the universe.
Now I know what you’re thinking. There are a lot of other Letterkenny podcasts out there, but this one is about to trade a couple of Cubs for a Bear. I’m Al, your host, and joining me in the room, as always, is lovely Tanya. Online we have, uh, Victor, uh, the very on time Victor. Matt is running late.
He will join us, uh, in progress. But joining us tonight, there are a bunch of beauties from all over the globe with one notable thing in common: they’ve got great taste in podcasts. Please join me in making some noise for our Discord D-Gens. Wondrous.
Ryan: Oh my Gawd. Oh my
Clip: God. Oh my God. Yeah, [00:01:00] boy. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
What up?
Take it. Take it. Take it easy
Josh: I regret nothing!
Al: Welcome to The Produce Stand. Degens, how are you all now? Ooh, good new
Josh: Good new Good new, not so bad
Al: All right. , Great turnout tonight, and amazing to see some faces we haven’t seen in a while. Josh, , like I think you said, it’s been like a year since, you’ve joined us.
Yeah. Uh, Colin, uh, Miriam and Juan, Jeff, M- uh, Robbie, uh, Ryan, how’s it going, bud? Haven’t seen you in a bit. Uh, and uh, not on camera, but we have Awesome, and I believe we have Charlie still there. So, uh, I feel like this is Romper Room. I see Charlie. I see Ryan. Is that a, a, a Canadian only-
Tanya: It’s Canadian …
Al: so they don’t know.
No, we
Awesome: got Romper Room down here.
Tanya: Oh, do you?
Al: Okay.
Tanya: Oh.
Al: Oh, R- Robbie’s shaking his head. My bad He doesn’t know about Romper Room. No?
Robby: Okay. No, I’m saying no, it’s not Canadian.
Al: We had it. No. Oh, I see. Oh, is it? Okay. Okay. I wasn’t sure. Anyway, guys, it’s [00:02:00] great to see you. It’s- Polka
Tanya: Room.
Al: Uh, well, yeah, Po- Polka Dot Door was, was Canadian, but-
Tanya: Didn’t they do the mirror, too?
Al: No, it was just a Romper. It’s Romper Room. The Polka Dot Door, you’d look through the polka dot door and, and you’d see how things were made or, or something like that.
Tanya: But didn’t they have the mirror and then they said, “I see, I see, I see,” and then- No, that’s
Al: Romper Room.
Tanya: Is that Romper
Clip: Room?
Al: Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, here we are.
It’s as good
Clip: as any.
Al: Uh, another AG call. And, uh, you know, it’s great to see everyone. It’s a Friday night, so, uh, hopefully you guys are, uh, ready to have a little bit of fun. Uh, we’re wrapping up He- Heated Rivalry. Uh, first of all, um, well, let’s go around and see how everyone’s doing. Uh, let’s do that. How are you now?
Uh, tonight’s line-up is… was supposed to be Matt, but he’s not here. I think he saw that he was first. That’s why he’s not here. Tanya, Victor- Oh, no … myself, and, and our guests will have the last word. Tanya, how have you been?
Tanya: I have been super busy. Uh, I feel like that’s my constant. Mm-hmm. Um, yeah, pretty busy.
Um, I got new, um, um, medical tests done, [00:03:00] and I have, um, a thick partial tear on my, um, plantar fascia, um, on my other foot now, and, um, I’ve got fluid on my Achilles tendon. I don’t know. It, it’s a hot mess, and I w- uh, just, I… walking is super painful, but, you know, that’s life sometimes.
Al: All right. Uh, Victor, you wanna pick things up for us, or…?
Victor: Oh, my God. Uh, jeez. Uh, you should go, you should go to M- to, to that, uh, knee doctor I went to. He, he fixed me up nice.
Tanya: Um- I will go anywhere at
Victor: this point. Yeah. Well, hey, he, he… uh, I had this kind of something similar in my knee, and, uh, it was like, it was hurting like crazy, and there was a fluid build-up. Hmm.
And so, um, he gave… he put me on some pills for like two weeks, and it, it brought the, uh, swelling… It, it’s not swelling you could visibly see. [00:04:00] It’s just- Yeah … it’s, it’s there. Yeah. So it, it brought the inflammation down. And, um, and then he said, “Don’t run until you build up muscle.” Uh, so that this doesn’t happen again.
And then so I did that, and that’s when I did the whole bike thing and whatnot. But yeah, it totally got me out of that mess. I was walking around with pain for so long and s- and he gave me that medication and totally, uh, it, it got rid of the liquid and it, it, um, uh, it was much better right after. I just don’t remember any of the details, what the medication was or whatever, but it sounds similar.
Anyway, um, uh, not much of an update ’cause I spent the week in Montreal, so, uh, just on work. Um, all day kind of strategy nonsense and whatnot. So, uh, but, um, I think you guys started re-watching, uh, Smallville, Smallville, like, a long time ago and- I
Al: did, yeah. I’ve been following along with-
Victor: Yeah, and it’s- …
Al: the podcast.
Victor: Yeah. So I started watching it again, like, a week- Oh,
Al: really? …
Victor: week, [00:05:00] like, a week and a half ago or whatever. Yeah. I think I’m on episode eight of season one. It’s so, it’s… So two things. First of all, it’s so good and it stands the test of time. Like, it’s still, it’s good now.
Al: The first six seasons are… Yeah, yeah.
Victor: Well, I’m on episode eight of season one, so my-
Al: No, I know, I know. I’m just saying,
Victor: like- … feedback on the- It, it- … the fact, right? One-
Al: once, once Lex leaves. Spoiler-
Victor: I don’t even remember him leaving. But anyway.
Al: Yeah.
Victor: So season one is… So two things. One is it’s really, it’s, it’s a good sh- I thought it was gonna be, like, kinda campy and s- like, slow and…
It’s not. Like, it’s wr- it’s- No … it is a little bit campy, but it’s, it’s, I, it’s so far really good. And the second part is I remember nothing. It’s like- Yeah … watching it for the first time again. No. So, uh- It’s good. Look- You, you know? Yeah.
Al: It started, it started this wave of superhero shows. Like, it was the, the- Yeah
first to do it
Victor: right, to do- Well, The Flash is basically a carbon copy, right? Yeah. ‘Cause basically there everything has, always leads back to the c- to the, [00:06:00] to the rocks, to the, uh, w- me- uh, the, uh, Krypton. Uh- Yeah, Kryptonite. Yeah. Yeah. Kryptonite. Krypton. Kryptonite. And, uh, in Flash, everything always leads back to that incident that gave Flash his powers.
And then- Yes … that’s how all the other meta-humans got their powers. So it’s, it’s like, it’s, it’s exactly a carbon copy. Yeah. It’s just Flash-
Al: No wonder these, these, uh, superheroes are so full of themselves. Like, uh, the, the world- Yeah … revolves around them and Flash- Yeah … at least time and space revolves around him, you know?
Victor: Yeah, but Flash also, like, it went for I think nine season, but only the first three seasons are good and then the, uh, it kind of falls off the cliff for that one. I, so I’m hoping this one actually has, uh- The, the- … longer staying
Al: power … the funny thing, the fun thing about Smallville is seeing how many Canadian actors, like, make, started their, their careers there and made the rounds.
Keeso, uh, is on there. Uh, fricking, um, um, um, um, um…
Victor: Kirsten
Al: K- uh,
Victor: oh, sh-
Al: No, no Well,
Victor: she’s not, she’s not gonna be- Kirsten Prout
Al: Uh, the, Bradley, the guy who played Bradley [00:07:00] is on- Yeah … on later seasons. Um, uh- Adrian Holmes Adrian Holmes. Ryan McDonald actually pl- has a, a multi, uh, episode arc, like, in season nine, which I for- completely forgot, um, uh, so- Okay.
Victor: Well, don’t give it away now. I-
Al: Yeah, but, uh, no, it’s, it’s, it, it is a lot of fun to see all those actors, and they’re so young and baby-faced, especially Casey. Yeah. So yeah, for sure.
Victor: Yeah. Anyway, I’m enjoying it, so
Al: there. Very cool. All right, uh, my week, uh, will be quick. It’s pretty uneventful, but, uh, we did get this really lovely package in the mail, and I wanted to show it off.
Thank you, Colin, who, um, uh, uh, what, what is it? Wow. You got, like, a laser, uh, etcher, engraver or something and-
Colin: Yeah. I kinda got a hand-me-down from my brother. He, uh, bought a new 3D printer, so I got his three-in-one, which was a 3D printer, laser engraver, CNC machine.
Al: Very nice.
Colin: So, um, yeah, that was my first batch of coasters, testing it out, getting used to it.
Al: Yeah, they look great.
Tanya: They are amazing.
Al: And if, uh, folks- Really cool … don’t follow him, you should follow his, uh, at least his Instagram channel [00:08:00] because he does these really cool-looking, uh, what, what do you, like, epoxy tables or,
Colin: uh, like- Yeah, epoxy tables mostly. I just, uh, did a handrailing actually for somebody, so that was kind of the first, and that was interesting.
Al: Yeah.
Colin: And-
Al: But, uh-
Colin: Yeah … yeah,
Al: mostly
Colin: tables.
Al: And Victor, uh, y- if, if you were on Discord, you would’ve seen one that he shared, I think it was just today, uh, a big dining room table with a train track right, running down the middle of it. It looks really cool. Oh, that’s awesome. Yeah. Looks super cool.
Colin: We, we should talk, Victor, if you’re looking for a table.
Victor: It’s, uh, is it an HO scale or O scale?
Colin: Uh-
Al: Right … yes. Yeah. No, no comment. Yeah. Anyway, uh, yeah, so that’s been my week. So let’s, uh, let’s get going to the, the fun part. Well, don’t bore us. Get to the chorus. And we’ll hear everyone in turn.
Uh, last week, we recapped and reviewed episode six of Heated Rivalry, The Cottage. That episode was , a unicorn, getting a fresh rating from all of our panelists, including our guest, Yukon Reid. This week, we put a bow on the season with our listeners, so [00:09:00] let’s get started. I’m gonna go around my screen here and, uh, see how you guys are doing.
We’ll start with a face we haven’t seen in a while. Josh, how are you now?
Josh: Good, and you?
Al: Not so bad. How have you been? What have you been up to?
Josh: Uh, all sorts of stuff. Been busy. Um, had a lot of family health issues the end of last year we were dealing with. Um, still got some of those going on now, but- Hmm
um, so we’ve had a lot of that stuff, and work was crazy. I was traveling a lot for work, and then wound up switching jobs. Um, been at my new job now for six months, and it’s been keeping me busy too. Um, but at least I don’t have to travel as much. It’s a closer commute- Yeah … and a little bit more money than what I was getting, so that’s all good.
Um, but yeah, just been crazy busy.
Al: Well, it’s great to see you, bud. And, um, I’ve– I know we talked a little bit about this just before we started recording, but have you– have– for the record, have you been following along our Heated Rivalry coverage?
Josh: I have not, because I have [00:10:00] not had a chance to watch it yet.
I’m about a year and a half behind on TV shows.
Al: All right. Well, feel free to watch it with the wifey, but you might not- Okay … not want the kids to, to watch it with you, though. It’s, it gets a little steamy.
Josh: Yeah. I, I did get one of my new coworkers into Letterkenny, and he, uh, binge-watched all 12 seasons of Letterkenny and is now- Oh
on Shoresy, so.
Al: Nice. I notice you didn’t mention anything about the podcast, though.
Josh: I, I’ve been telling him about it. I’ve been trying.
Al: All good. All good.
Josh: He, he’s not big on podcasts, but he said he was gonna check it out, so we’ll see.
Al: Sweet. Amazing. Oh, another big thing that happened to me this week. If you notice be- ab- just over here above Tanya’s head, there’s a new, uh, neon, uh, produce stand sign.
I got that in the mail. I’m so, so pleased with it. Uh, it’s, uh- Very cool … well, from One- I was gonna say,
Colin: it looks great …
Al: yeah. Thank you. For O- from oneneon.ca, I, I believe. Well, there, there’s… I got a, a Canadian website but a, a American website too. But I think it’s a, just a drop shipping thing, ’cause this thing came from fricking India or something like that.
But anyway, it looks great. They helped with [00:11:00] the design. The price was, was actually really reasonable. I, I was, I was pr- really impressed with it. So if anyone’s looking to spruce up their, uh, their backgrounds, um, that’s, uh, One Neon. Check it out.
Tanya: Oh, Matt’s here.
Al: Oh, there’s Matt. Uh, but let’s move on to the next person.
Jeff, how, have you been, bud?
Clip: Hey, not too bad. How are you guys?
Al: Good. And you just got back from your, uh, your trip up here, and you’re, you’re at Kingston, in Kingston. What were you doing there?
Clip: Uh, well, I mean, I was doing a, a few things. I st- I stayed the first night in Montreal and had, uh, had drinks with Risky, um- That’s right
and that was, that was an experience. That was really, really fun. Um-
Al: It’s always an experience with Risk.
Clip: Oh my God, we hung out for- He, he was like, “Uh, let’s meet at…” There’s a, a, a, a vintage pinball bar that he DJs at on Friday nights. I was there on Thursday.
Mat: Mm-hmm.
Clip: Um, and we met him, I met him there. Um, and we just sat and drank and talked about [00:12:00] television for two and a half hours.
Like, uh, yeah, it was- Amazing … it was really, really, uh, just a- Did you get
Al: any- … cool- Did you get any, like, inside scoop on, on I Killed a Bear?
Clip: No, not really. I got there a little bit before he did, and I was, uh, talking to, actually it was the owner of the bar, a, a guy named Bruno.
Al: Hmm.
Clip: And, uh, Bruno was saying- Don’t talk
Al: about Bruno.
Clip: He, he was saying that, uh, um, uh, uh, Risky worked, uh, did, did a little bit more work on it than, uh, than, than, uh, Trevor kinda lets on. But- Hmm … um, yeah, he was just, yeah, I just, just some cool insight from Trevor about how, like, television writing and stuff like that ’cause- Mm-hmm … he’s a huge fan of, um, of like, I’m gonna say, like, ’80s and ’90s television.
Ryan: Yeah.
Clip: Um, like, like, The Love Boat is, like, his favorite show of all time. Amazing. Um, and he, he was telling me, uh, this is just something interesting I picked up from him. He said, “You can’t write stuff that’s on TV now- Mm-hmm people have seen it. So [00:13:00] he’s like, “But you, what you can do is steal all the good stuff from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s- Mm-hmm
and present it as new, because people don’t always remember that.”
Al: So- Well, the young kids will s- will think, “Oh, that’s different. I’ve never seen that before.” Yeah, yeah. And the old people will be, like, all nostalgic, “Oh, remember when things were like that?”
Clip: So, yeah. I started
Victor: re-watching Love Boat as well.
Al: Oh,
Clip: did you?
Victor: Um-
Clip: Oh my God … and he was saying, like, I, I, I brought up, I was like, “So, so the brothers from I Killed a Bear,” I mean- Mm … those came right out of Slap Shot, didn’t, didn’t they? He’s like, “Yep, we stole them from Slap Shot.”
Al: Nice.
Clip: So, um, yeah, it’s just, just, like, little things like that. But yeah, uh, really cool hanging out with him.
Uh, he’s really generous with his time, and, um, yeah, it’s just, it’s a cool hang whenever you’re with him.
Al: Yeah. Yeah.
Clip: Um, and then, um, I- I did karaoke
Al: with him once.
Clip: Did, yeah, I mean, he-
Al: Interesting.
Clip: It’s, it’s, it’s so much fun. Yeah. Um, and then, yeah, made my way over to Kingston for a few nights. Um, no, I mean, I, oh, I just love Kingston, guys.
Like, you know- It’s a great
Al: city, yeah.
Clip: Mm. It’s, like, so beautiful. The day I got [00:14:00] there, the sunset, I walked down to, like, the Gord Downie Pier, which is, like, I do a pilgrimage every time I’m in town, and- Mm … uh, sunset, and just everything on Lake Ontario. It was just absolutely frigging phenomenal. Um, and then the next night, yeah, uh, went to see It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken.
I met up with Michelle, who’s joined us here. Um-
Juan: Oh.
Clip: Uh, Marcus was supposed to join me, but he had to cancel at the last minute, and Michelle drove all the way down from Sudbury and took his- Wow … ticket. And, um- Yeah, it’s a, it’s a great show. Um, I mean, I, I think it’s coming to an end. I think it’s only… I think, you know, either this weekend or next weekend might be the last weekend for it in Kingston.
Al: Yeah. Um,
Clip: anybody who’s in the area, go see it. It’s just so fucking good. Um-
Al: Yeah. Sadly, we c- I really wanted to go- Yeah … and see it in Kingston, but we couldn’t make the timing work. Although, in hindsight now, I think we might’ve been able to. But, um-
Tanya: Let’s go tomorrow …
Al: I, I do hear that I think after Kingston, it’s, it’s headed to Montreal.
My- Yeah … I’m hoping it’ll, it’ll come to Toronto soon.
Clip: I’m fairly certain, yeah. I, I did read- Yeah … somewhere that it was, it [00:15:00] was headed to Montreal. Um, they gotta keep it up because, like, it, it’s just really, really good, regardless of if you’re a Tragically Hip fan or not. But, um, it’s just… So the, the… It’s just, like, the whole premise behind it is it’s a, um…
It’s set in, like, uh, I think it was, like, 2002, and Michelle, correct me if I’m wrong about any of this. Um, is a, uh, a Iraqi journalist, um, who kinda… I’m not gonna spoil everything. Don’t w- don’t worry. But, um, he ends up getting exiled from Iraq and he, um, he flees the country and he ends up in, in Canada. He ends up in Kingston.
Um, and he meets a, a record shop owner there, and, um, it’s everything… It, it’s, it’s just life. It’s a life story. Yeah. And, like, it’s so- So it has nothing
Al: to do with the Tragically Hip, but it just uses their music in a w- Yes … to tell the story. Yeah, yeah.
Clip: Yeah, and I mean, the Hips’ music tells stories on, on, on their own- Yeah
and they just, uh, use it to, to, like, like, kinda enhance their stories a little bit. And guys, the performances are amazing. Like, like, the musicians that are there, I think, uh, they’ve got, what, it’s like a [00:16:00] four or five-piece band that, that, that’s i- in the background the entire time. They’re in the… They’re, they’re, they’re extras essentially-
Tanya: Mm-hmm
Clip: the entire time. And then the singing and the dancing, um, it’s, it’s just ama- There’s one guy who, like, there’s breakdancing at one point. There’s one guy who does this frigging flip out of nowhere, and he was, like, the most entertaining, like, one of the most entertaining parts of the entire show. But, um, yeah, it was just amazing.
We had a great time. Um, standing ovation by the, the c- the crowd in Kingston that was there. Amazing. Um, and apparently there were a couple of nights, um- Unfortunately not the night that Michelle and I were there, but there were a couple of nights where, um, I think the f- opening night, I wanna say Gord and Paul, uh, from The Hip were there.
And then, um- Oh,
Al: yeah? …
Clip: I just saw, I think it was z- this past week, uh, um, Jay was there. Um, and it’s… I, I just would’ve m- loved to bump into him. But, um, anyway, um, after the show, I took Michelle around. There was a couple of the… They got some Hip murals up. There… [00:17:00] And I was taking her around to, to, to… There were a couple just near the theater, and we’re walking back.
I was walking her back to her car, and we bumped into two of the cast members that we’d just finished seeing, um, two of the leads, actually. And, um, uh, uh, Ally, I think his name was Ally, Ally, Ally, Ally Momen, and, um, MacLachlan, something MacLachlan, Kevin MacLachlan maybe. Um, but, um, yeah, they played, um, uh, uh, Waleed and Lucas, who were…
Waleed was the lead, and Lucas was, like, his, his kinda, like, stoner buddy. Um, Lucas was, like, the, the highly, um, the, the physical one, the guy who did the break dancing and- Mm … just frigging backflip. But anyway, they stopped. They shook our hands, chatted with us for a couple of minutes. We told them how great it was, and they’re just, they super nice people.
So yeah. Anyway, um, y- the, the musical. Go see it, guys, um, if, if you get a chance. I c- I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s, it’s- We’ll
Al: definitely catch it in Toronto when it, when- Mm-hmm … if and when it comes to Toronto. Yeah. Like, we [00:18:00] missed it in Hamilton, but I’m like, no, Kingston, that’s where you wanna go watch it.
And then,
Clip: uh- Yes … didn’t
Al: make
Clip: it to- And, I mean, Kingston’s just an awesome city anyway. Yeah. Uh, uh, I stayed, I actually stayed an extra day, and, uh, I went and did the, uh, the Express Kingston Pen Tour, and that was really, really fun, too, so.
Al: Yeah, I wanna do that too. I’ve, I’ve never done that one, so that, that’ll be interesting.
That looks interesting.
Clip: Yeah.
Al: Very cool. Uh, Colin over… From, from Maine to Kitchener-Waterloo, we head to Colin. How’s it going, bud?
Colin: Oh, it’s going all right. Um, well, I mean, like Tanya, I too am fighting some foot pain.
Al: Oh, geez.
Colin: I think I have some plantar fasciitis or something. I go- ended up ordering some of those, like, uh, compression socks or whatever.
Kinda helping out, kinda not. I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes.
Clip: That’s the worst.
Colin: Um, oh, it, it’s, it sucks. And y- I mean, you’re on your feet all day, right? So it’s like- Yeah … the, uh-
Al: And I
Colin: see you’re
Al: joining us from the cottage.
Colin: Yeah, yeah. I mean, I had to relax in my, uh, secluded cottage, just like, uh, the guys from Heated Rivalry, so.[00:19:00]
You know, um, otherwise, uh, yeah, it’s kind of been a poop show here. My, uh, sister-in-law was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and she just went in for, like, a double mastectomy and-
Clip: Oh,
Colin: god … she’s recovering in the hospital right now. And, uh, we just had a friend over for dinner this evening, and his partner out in Quebec got in a car accident, totaled his car.
Hmm. It’s just been-
Al: Oh …
Colin: one thing after another right now.
Al: Yeah, don’t leave your house because, uh, yeah, that’s, uh… sounds like you’re going through a bad spell there.
Colin: I’ll tell my boss. Um, otherwise, yeah, it’s, uh, been, uh… just working away. It’s been an exciting month for TV, a lot of new shows coming out.
Mm-hmm. Um, you know, Mob Land, Stick, Tulsa King, Dexter, they’re all kind of at the top of my list right now. And, I mean, obviously, I Kill the Bear.
Al: Yeah.
Colin: But
Al: yeah, it’s- I, I caught the, the first [00:20:00] episode of Dexter 2. It was, it was… I’m, I’m loving it, I’m loving that. Yeah. And, uh, looking forward to Stick and, uh, yeah, uh, there’s a lot of really great shows coming out now.
Colin: Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn at the end of the month. That- I love that show too. Yeah. That’s a pretty good one.
Al: Very cool. Yeah. All right. Well, it’s great to see you. Thanks for joining us. Now, we’ll head from there to Toronto. Uh, Miriam and Juan. Juan just fresh back from, uh, from, from… in, being in South America.
How, how are you guys doing?
Miriam: Colombia.
Al: Colombia
Juan: now. Colombia.
Al: Well, that’s South America. I just couldn’t remember which, which country, that’s all.
Juan: Yeah. No, it was, it was fun. I had a, a pretty good vacation, uh, spending it with family, and the weather was decent. Um, but yeah, no, it, it was more, uh, about spending time with family and-
Al: Yeah
Juan: reconnecting. Um, yeah. Great. That was essentially the, the gist of it. I was only there for nine days. [00:21:00] Well, yeah- 10 … 10. 10 days in total.
Al: Oh, still sounds magical, um, you know, just to to see family but also to, to be in, in warmer climes. I, I think… Well, you did say it was, it was pretty rainy and cool at night, I guess.
Juan: Yeah. I, I, one thing I forgot to mention in, in the pre-recording was that when I was in Bogota I met a couple just like us. Okay. A Canadian woman married to a, a Colombian guy from that province.
Al: Oh, yeah?
Juan: And, and so we started chatting and, and holy shit, it was just like talking to a mirror. Like-
Al: Oh, yeah?
Juan: like, uh, you know, “Is your family, like, big? Like, back, here in Colombia?” And like, “Yeah, my mom has 16 siblings.” Wow. “Holy shit. Yeah, it’s the same with his family. And, and all of them speak Spanish. None of them speak English. And every time we get together they yell over each other, and on top of it they play music in the background while talking.”
Yeah. “So I’m lost all the time.” I’m like, “Yep, yep.” At
Al: dinner at my house too. Yeah. Yeah. And that’s, we don’t have 16 people- And- … we have four, but it doesn’t matter.
Juan: Yeah. It’s, [00:22:00] yeah, same thing. Yeah. And so I… They’ve only been married for 10 years. Yeah. And, and, you know, by year 16 she said, “I’m out.” “I’m… You go by yourself.
I’m not going.”
Al: That’s funny. Miriam, how, how are you doing? How you been feeling?
Miriam: Uh, I’ve been good. Uh, I was very happy for Juan coming home.
Al: Mm-hmm.
Miriam: Um, because- When he’s gone, I realize how much he does-
Al: Right. Yeah …
Miriam: and helps. And, um, I didn’t cook at all because he does all the dishes.
Al: Right.
Miriam: So for me- Oh, so there are no
Al: dishes to cook with, so
Miriam: yeah.
Yeah, or to clean. I’m like, after a day of work and then cook, and I’m like, “Nope.” And it’s like, “Grilled cheese?” Yeah. Right. That’s good enough for me. So I was very happy when he’s came home.
Robby: Very
Miriam: cool. Yeah, so yeah.
Robby: All right,
Miriam: uh- And I don’t know how you, [00:23:00] you Al, or, and Victor, how you can have time to watch all these new shows-
Michele: Mm-hmm
Miriam: but then you’re going to re-watch all these old shows. Like, we’re having, like our Netflix queue, our Amazon queue- Mm-hmm … we’re
Victor: backed up. After Linda, after Linda falls asleep. Pre- pretty much. That’s my catch-up.
Al: Yeah. I, I have my… I, I watch my one show, uh, after Tanya’s, uh- Yeah … snoring, yeah.
Tanya: I do not snore.
You take that back.
Victor: She
Al: doesn’t snore.
Mat: I’m leaving. Ah.
Al: All right. Uh, great to see you guys. Thanks. We’re, we’ll get to trivia in a second ’cause I know, uh, it’s nearly bedtime for you, but, uh, first we gotta hear from Ryan. Ryan, buddy, how you doing?
Ryan: Doing good. It’s been a minute.
Al: Yeah, it has been a minute. I, we- I thought
Mat: that was Tom Selleck down there
Al: right? With the mustache and everything, right?
Ryan: Thought I’d change things up. I guess it’s, that means it’s been like a year, ’cause I haven’t shaved it since last Movember, so.
Mat: Okay. I was gonna say, there’s no way that’s six days into [00:24:00] November- … ’cause you are-
Ryan: No. …
Mat: growing like crazy, bro.
Al: What have you been
Ryan: up to?
Uh, mostly class stuff for work. Uh, af- work, after work.
Al: Mm-hmm.
Ryan: Um, but trying to get a lot more, uh… Some of the fitness things that I was doing, trying to do a lot more with that again. My heel has gotten better and where I can actually run and do most the things that I want to as long as I don’t- Right, ’cause
Al: w- yeah, you were in a foot cast or something last
Ryan: time- Yeah
Al: we saw you. Yeah. That, that-
Ryan: Yeah … was
Al: a year ago then. Okay.
Ryan: And I re-injured it at one point- Oh, geez … uh, running, and that was my own fault. I got competitive with other people. Um, ran faster than I should’ve. Uh, but yeah, things are going mostly well. I was gonna mention, uh, for Tanya, Ghosts is very good. I’ll second that one.
Ah. Yeah. It is all comedy. It’s not, like, scary at all ’cause I’m not- I’ll third that one … into scary stuff.
Tanya: We had friends come over and, and say the same thing, so it’s definitely on the l- Yeah … we’re watching. What are we watching right now? [00:25:00] And people on,
Al: even on YouTube are saying, “Tell Tanya to watch Ghosts.
It’s really-” It’s worth the
Tanya: w- What are we watching right now, Mike? It’s so well-written. No. It’s very- What British is this?
Miriam: The,
Al: the English, the English one.
Tanya: Yeah.
Miriam: Not the American version.
Al: The British one? Okay.
Tanya: Yeah. British Ghosts.
Ryan: Oh, I, I didn’t w- I tried- Oh, I- … the British one. I couldn’t get into it. No. Same.
The
Victor: American is better, I think. Yeah.
Ryan: Yeah.
Victor: Ooh.
Ryan: The British one, it, it’s more British style, so, like- Yeah … drier type comedy. Um- This is The Office all over again. Didn’t get me.
Victor: Well, you know, you know Three’s Company was a British show before it was Three’s Company, right? It was, it was called, like, Man About the Town or something like that.
And- Oh, I r-
Al: yeah, that rings a bell. Yeah,
Victor: I remember … and Three’s Company is much better. Like, like s- not always is the British version better. Like, in this, in this case I think they’re, they’re both good, but the American version, I think, is, is better. The actors are better. They’re, uh, I think more, I don’t know, relatable or whatever, if, if that makes sense.
So, I don’t know. Uh, I, I definitely recommend, uh, if you’re on the fence, start with the American one. And there’s more seasons. [00:26:00] There’s like five seasons whereas the British one’s just two seasons.
Al: Yeah. That’s crazy. Well, it’s great to see you, Ryan. I’ll
Tanya: definitely have to check it out.
Al: Yeah. Thanks for joining us.
I’ll head over to, uh, let’s see. Where should we go next? Idaho? Uh- Robbie?
Mat: Fucking Idaho. You-daho.
Robby: Sorry, now.
Al: Not bad, and good you?
Robby: Oh. Not bad. Ups and downs, strikes and gutters.
Al: Yes. Have you been… What have you been up to?
Robby: I feel very young, uh, listening to Victor talk about Love Boat and- … not Three’s Company, but the precursor to Three’s Company, So How.
So I, yeah- I
Tanya: don’t even
Robby: know that one … feel very, feeling very young now. Yeah. Good. Uh, work is crazy. Uh, we’re like, uh, maybe every university on the continent, in a budget crisis, uh, with upper-level people saying, “Hey, could you cut your budget by 10% of everything?”
Clip: Mm-hmm.
Robby: Uh, “Tell us how you can do that.” Um, so, you know, work’s a bit stressful [00:27:00] with that.
Had a very fun work trip, though. Uh, a few weeks ago we got to go to Dublin. Um- Oh, nice … the Society for Prevention Research, uh, their European, um, conference was in Dublin, so got to go to Ireland for the first time for almost, uh, an entire week, which was very cool.
Clip: That’s nice.
Robby: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Um, since everyone’s talking about health, uh, Tanya, let me tell you about my diarrhea.
No. I was just about to ask.
Tanya: We’re good. Robbie, never change. I love you.
Robby: No.
Victor: You, you win. I think you win.
Tanya: Ah.
Robby: No, it’s, it’s good. Uh, hockey season’s starting again. Wait, your diarrhea’s
Mat: good?
Robby: Oh, it’s, it’s my favorite, Matt. Um, hockey season’s starting back up. James’ first s- first game of the, the season is tomorrow morning, so we get to drive down to Lewiston, Idaho tomorrow for a game.
[00:28:00] Um, so he’s getting back into that. Uh- Yeah, I think it’s pretty good. I think, uh, actually, a real health tip, uh, I started a GLP-1 in August- Mm-hmm … and since then I’ve lost 30 pounds.
Tanya: Wow.
Al: Amazing.
Robby: Yeah. Yeah. Are you nuts? Wow.
Al: Congrats, man.
Tanya: That’s
Robby: awesome.
Tanya: So- Since August.
Robby: Yeah.
Al: That’s, uh, that’s great.
Robby: Yeah. So it’s been…
Uh, people have been asking and I’ve been saying it’s… Like, imagine if you were walking around with a backpack full of 30 pounds of rocks, and then you took them off and walked around. It feels- Yeah … feels pretty good. Mm-hmm.
Clip: Mm-hmm.
Mat: Yeah.
Robby: Good
Clip: for
Robby: you. Good for you, man. Yeah. That’s
Mat: amazing.
Robby: Yeah. That’s awesome.
So I’m gonna keep, keep rocking on that. But, um, we’ve been watching Ted Lasso-
Al: Mm-hmm.
Robby: The fourth season. Oh,
Al: yeah, baby. Yep.
Robby: Absolutely loved the first season, especially during the pandemic, the syrupy, sweet, uh, nature of Ted Lasso. I think that’s why it, it was so- It’s what we all
Al: needed. That first season was what we all needed, yeah.
Robby: [00:29:00] Yeah. And I, I really like the second season. I love the attention to mental health. The third season I got a little less enthusiastic about it, but this new fourth season, I’m, I’m really enjoying. Uh, there’s a lot of references to my home place of Kansas City, Missouri. And- I was
Al: gonna say, there’s a lot of Kansas City barbecue talk, and I know that that’s- Yeah.
right down your alley.
Robby: Yeah, where Jason San- uh, S- Sadzikus is from. And, um- Yeah. But I have been… Has anyone else been watching the new season of Ted Lasso? Yeah. I’ve seen it.
Al: Of course. Yeah, we finished it. Yeah.
Robby: Is anyone else seeing… Like, I see Letterkenny in, and I see Shoresy in season four. I don’t know why.
Interesting. But the way they use music, they do a lot more in-
Al: Oh …
Robby: from my memory, a lot more montages, a lot more music. Hmm. Some of the jokes sound very Shoresy to me. Interesting.
Al: Yeah. It’s possible. I mean, I think there was a lot of parallels between the first run of, of Ted Lasso and, and early Shoresy as well.
Robby: Yeah.
Al: Not, not as crass, obviously, but [00:30:00] in term- the s- the, the whole sports theme and taking a- Mm … a losing team and turning it around and, and all that. Yeah. Like, there’s a lot of… There were a lot of parallels- I- … for sure.
Mat: Yeah. And I don’t know how far you… Are you done it? Are you just in the middle of it?
Robby: We…
I think we just finished last night. Yeah.
Mat: Okay. I, I would say, and this isn’t a giveaway to anyone watching, I just, I love how they utilize the believe sign in this, in this season. Yeah.
Clip: Yeah.
Mat: Mm-hmm. Yeah. It, it was such a good- kind of twist on the believe sign, and it felt so appropriate to the group. And I, and I absolutely fucking love that.
That was one of my favorite aspects of the season.
Robby: Yeah. I, I lo- and I still love Roy Kent being this tough, brash dude- … who still has this huge heart that he tries to hide as best he can. Yeah.
Al: Yeah.
Robby: And if anybody enjoys that and enjoys film in general, please check out his podcasts, Films To Be Buried With.
It’s so interesting to listen to him speak, to listen to his character on [00:31:00] Ted Lasso where he’s this really brash dude, and then you listen to him on his own podcast being himself- Yeah … talking about how much he loves Grease 2 and musicals- … and being like, “Oh, that’s lovely.” Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it’s like the exact opposite.
Uh, I’m a huge fan of that dude.
Al: And, and if you’re a fan of him a- against type, I don’t know if you’ve watched Shrinking, but if you haven’t-
Robby: Yeah.
Victor: Oh, yeah … you should watch Shrinking. That, he’s great on that,
Al: yeah. He’s amazing in Shrinking, and, and completely against type on that one there in terms of him.
Yeah.
Awesome: What was the, the film he did where he was a superhero? That was really excellent
Al: Goldstein was a superhero in a movie?
Victor: That
Awesome: I’m not sure I- He, he played like a comic book kind of super… It wasn’t like a, a big blockbuster cape film Oh. It was a smaller production, but he was a superhero.
Al: Super Bob.
Awesome: Super Bob? Super Bob. That… Super Bob. That’s the one.
Clip: I was gonna say, he’s supposed, he was supposed to play Hercules in the [00:32:00] MCU, but they haven’t reintroduced him. Yeah, well-
Mat: That’s right.
Clip: Yeah, it was in the-
Al: Hercules is
Mat: in the MCU? That’s right. It… That was, um… He made an appearance- Yep … in Love and Thunder, didn’t he?
Clip: Yeah, yeah. It was at the- That’s right … extra scenes at Thor, of Thor Love and Thunder.
Mat: Yeah. What a weird fucking movie that was.
Al: Yeah, it was. It was very bizarre. All right, we gotta keep, keep things moving. Well,
Awesome: let’s
Al: talk OOTD. Michelle- How are you now? I see you’re in- Good, you? … Sud Vegas. Back in Sud Vegas for you?
Awesome: No.
Al: No. Still in Ottawa? Where are you
Mat: now?
Michele: So I’ve, uh, I went to a conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
Al: Mm-hmm. Oh,
Michele: that’s right. Uh, and drove down and stopped in Kingston overnight, and hung out with Jeff, and saw that great show, et cetera. And, uh, then drove down to Providence, did the conference, tootled around that area, which is amazing, really great.
Um, had a good time, uh, coming back slowly. Mm-hmm. And, uh, stopped in Ticonderoga on the way back to see the Star Trek tour. Nice. So if you’re a Star Trek Original [00:33:00] Series fan, or even whatever, not even a fan, go see this. Um, you’ll be amazed. They’ve recreated the original sets from the original show, and everything is absolutely perfect.
And I, I… You know, it’s cheesy. Everything’s plywood, and it’s all brightly painted primary colors, just like you see on the show. Um, but when they take you to the bridge of the Enterprise, I wept openly. It was amazing. Oh,
Mat: wow. Like the original
Michele: bridge? Yeah. Very moving, moving thing, which I was surprised of.
Mat: You set your phasers to cry.
Michele: Yeah. I was surprised at how I reacted. I was not expecting that.
Mat: Amazing.
Michele: But it was pretty cool, and I bumped into the creator of that whole thing- Wow … uh, on the street on the sidewalk in town. So anyway- Small town … it’s a small town, beautiful in the fall anyway. It, it’s really nice.
But I decided to cross the border before the election was done, so I came home. And, uh, now I, I’m hanging out with family for the weekend in [00:34:00] Montreal, and maybe- Nice … back to Sudbury.
Al: Very nice. Uh, oh, who’s… Oh, Charlie. Charlie, how you doing, bud?
Charlie: Hey. Hanging in there. How are y’all?
Al: Not so bad. What have you been up to?
Charlie: Oh, school, doing a, a Bob’s Burgers, uh, re-watch with the wife. Really kinda grooving to that.
Al: Everyone with the re-watches. That’s
Mat: a good-
Al: I never got into it. I mean, I- Oh … I, I never, I’ve never given it a try, though. So, what would g- Sell me on Bob’s Burgers.
Charlie: Oh, it’s just a delightful family where, where most of the cast is, uh, flipped genders.
Like, the, the mom is played by, uh, a dude who does a, a, a hilarious takeoff on, uh, hi- his mom’s Jersey accent.
Al: Okay.
Charlie: Um, and the kids are just outrageous. Uh, there’s the, the little nine-year-old girl who’s played by, uh, uh, Kristen Schaal. Mm. So you can imagine her voice-
Al: Mm-hmm …
Charlie: coming through like a, a nine-year-old.
It’s, it’s absolutely fantastic, the hijinks that en- ensue. And it’s, like, still going on, [00:35:00] so it’s one of the few shows that I’ve been, uh, keeping up with that’s actually still on.
Al: Is that… That’s the Adam Carolla one, right? Where… Does he do a voice? No, no,
Charlie: no. No. This is the Molino- Dude … Molino twins.
Mat: It’s the same guy that voices Archer, isn’t it?
Charlie: Yeah, H. Jon Benjamin.
Mat: Yeah. It’s, it’s actually hilarious. If you give it a try, there’s some really, really good writing in that show as well. It kinda reminds of, like… I put it in the same category as, like, I know this is a bit of a stretch, like Simpsons, Family Guy, like, all that kinda stuff, but it’s got its own flavor about a s- a family running a burger shop and, uh…
Where, where does it take place again? I’m fucking- Like, the Jersey Shore. Yeah. Yeah. Outside of a
Charlie: wharf.
Mat: Yeah. And it’s a m- it is fucking hysterical. They live next to a morgue, and across the street from, like, some Italian pizzeria, something or other. It’s, it’s a, it’s a, it’s just awesome.
Clip: Yeah. The music, the original music they do on the show alone is worth w- worth watching it for.
Al: Okay. Well, I, I’ll, maybe I’ll give it a go. Matt, uh, you know, settle down. You [00:36:00] know, you came in late, so you need to wait your turn, all right?
Mat: I was helping. I was- Sorry,
Charlie: Charlie. That’s all right. No, have at it, have-
Mat: Sorry. No, no, it’s
Charlie: fine. He’s- No. If you want a shorter watch, the, the Great North by the, the, s- the same, uh, folks does it too.
Mm-hmm. It’s about… It takes place in Alaska. Okay. It’s about, uh, yeah.
Awesome: Wait. Uh- Wasn’t that Nikki Ohorn in a couple episodes of that, or was she-
Charlie: No, I don’t- … a regular cast member? … I don’t think so, no. That’s, that’s, uh, Nick Offerman and, uh, his wife Megan Mullally voice some characters. Uh- Oh … yeah, it’s, it’s about a father who’s got four kids, and, uh, hijinks in Alaska So-
Al: Okay
Charlie: pretty cool stuff.
Al: We’ll have to check it out. And last- Good family shows … last but not least, not Matt. Awesome, how are you?
Awesome: Like 10. I have just been flat out busy the entire time.
Al: Okay. I was gonna
Awesome: say- Uh …
Al: are you gonna complain about foot pain as well?
Awesome: No. No. I mean, that’s just chronic. I just live with it.[00:37:00]
Uh yeah, no, the in-laws, they take a lot of attention. Um, what have I been watching lately? Well, I’ve watched… I got my screeners yesterday, so I’ve watched the first three episodes of I Kill the Bear. Not gonna talk about that. Um-
Mat: Nice flex there, Awesome.
Awesome: Yeah, I know, right? Let’s see, what have I been… I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries and shit on Kanopy recently actually.
So if your library offers Kanopy, fucking sign the fuck up. It’s good shit.
Al: Okay All right. Well, thanks for joining us tonight and, uh, if… Stick around if, those of you who wanna stick around aft- in the after party, we will be watching episode one of I Killed a Bear tonight. Matt, how have you been?
Mat: Oh. It’s been a bit of a firestorm over here.
So, let’s, uh, let’s talk about what I’ve been watching. I [00:38:00] mean, aside from that, my kids, my kids, so I’m a hockey dad now, so that’s fun. Um, my kid had his second game this week and, uh, it’s fun watching him and how excited he fucking… Like, I’m really just genuinely excited for how excited he is. Um, and then I sit there in the stands with my other son, who knows nothing about hockey, and we both try to figure it out together, so it’s kinda fun.
Um, even we’re not even sure always if he’s on the ice or not, and we keep pointing to the wrong kids, cheering for the wrong person a couple- … times. That’s happened already. That would certainly be me. But, you
Al: know- …
Mat: it’s great. They all look the fucking same, man. All the parents looking
Victor: at you going- That’s what the numbers are for, Matt
Al: “Don’t you, don’t you know who your child is?”
Mat: Yeah.
Victor: No, they do all look the same, but that’s what the numbers are for.
Mat: Well, when he’s got his… I was gonna, I was gonna say, when he’s got his back to you, that’s the actually the time you would see it. Anyways, it’s fun. You know, I’m trying to coach him and be supportive ’cause I am genuinely excited for him.
Like, we took him skating tonight, so that’s why I was a bit late. Um, it’s my son’s birthday on Monday. Uh, this whole weekend schedule has just [00:39:00] been changing. It’s been very fluid. It’s on the go and, uh, we wanted to get him out to do something, so we quickly ran him over to go for a quick skate, and then we raced back and…
So I apologize for my tardiness, everyone. It’s
Al: okay. My bad, too, because as Victor pointed out-
Mat: I saw that …
Al: uh, the calendar en- entry said a 9:30 start, but, no, Aghole’s always started at
Mat: 8:30. To your defense, I knew that Aghole’s always started at 8:30.
Al: Oh. Oh, okay. Well, then what the fuck are you
Mat: late
Al: for?
Mat: So…
Well, I knew i- but I messaged. I knew w- what it was against time. Fuck you, man. I’m trying to be honest, and I just had your back. You know what? Fuck you and your schedule.
Al: All right. Um,
Mat: anyways- Anyways, I’m just gonna say, I wanna talk- Yeah … one, one thing I watched that I enjoyed. I watched, ’cause listen, he cut me off so quick, man-
just ’cause I’m late. Fuck you. Um, I watched the new, uh, Resident Evil movie and, uh, I quite enjoyed it. I don’t know if anyone’s into Resident Evil in here, and, uh, the old video games I always played. Obviously, the Milla Jovovich movies were… They started off pretty good, then got pretty wild over time. But this [00:40:00] new take on it by Zach, Zach Cregger?
Is that his name? The guy who did Weapons. Um, it’s, it’s pretty gnarly. Uh, so if you’re a s- Resident Evil fan, uh, feel free to dr- dive into this sucker and, uh, it’s very different but it, it’s, it’s a, it’s a fun watch.
Al: Colin, it looked like you had something to say about that.
Colin: I haven’t seen it yet, but I got some hardcore, like, Resident Evil f- friends and- They would disagree.
Mat: Oh yeah, probably. Yeah 100%. It, it, it’s wild. It like, it, it’s… I get it. It’s like, you know, you got the game, um, and, and all the, the, the lore from there. But in terms of a sort of a monster flick, I quite enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty gnarly. Um, a- and there’s some pretty twisted stuff in there that’s right in Resident Evil’s realm.
So, um, I was okay with it. I en- I enjoyed it for what it was- Yeah … knowing that it didn’t, wasn’t very true to the lore of, of Resident Evil.
Miriam: I get that.
Mat: So I’ll take that.
Al: All right. Are we, guys, are we ready for some Heated Rivalry trivia?
Miriam: [00:41:00] Oof.
Awesome: Hell yeah. Fuck yeah.
Al: No. Javi’s shaking his head no. “I’m just here for I Kill the Bear.”
Well-
Miriam: We’re gonna say good night.
Al: No. Oh, you’re not gonna do the trivia?
Miriam: Oh, we’re a podcast and a half behind- Oh … because of Juan being gone.
Al: Oh, it’s okay. Trivia… But you’ve seen the, the- My fault. My fault … series. You saw season one of, uh, Heated Rivalry. No?
Miriam: No. I’m w- I’m on the wait list at the library.
Al: Oh, that’s right.
Oh. You’re one of those people.
Mat: What? There’s still a wait list at a library?
Miriam: Yep.
Mat: God, Miriam, you live on a whole different planet.
Miriam: She asked me if I- I get the newspaper every day. Like-
Al: Yeah …
Miriam: I must be 80.
Mat: I love you for it. Don’t change, but you’re, you’re, uh, you’re, you’re behind.
Miriam: Well, enjoy tonight.
Al: All right.
Well, it was great to see you guys. Great to, great to see you, Dan. And well, before we, before you go then, like, how are you enjoying the series, the He- Heated Rivalry?
Miriam: I, I’m [00:42:00] almost thinking I’m gonna be disappointed when I actually watch it
Victor: Wait, what episode are you on right now?
Miriam: Um, well no, we haven’t listened to last week’s, so it’s the week before
Al: No, but just the show.
Not, not our, not our podcast- Yeah … but the show. How, how have you enjoyed the show?
Victor: I haven’t watched it And, and what episode or,
Al: or scenes? Oh, you haven’t-
Miriam: He’s waiting for it She’s on a wait list at the library. He’s on a wait
Al: list. Oh, I thought, I thought you were waiting for the… Okay, I see what you’re… Oh, okay.
Gotcha.
Miriam: Ew.
Al: Oh, so
Victor: you haven’t seen any episodes?
Miriam: No. Oh.
Mat: But you’ve listened to the podcast?
Miriam: Yes.
Mat: That’s backwards.
Al: She, she did that with the Don Cherry. They did that with the Don Cherry coverage too. They- Pat’s broken … they didn’t watch it, they just listened to us talk about it.
Miriam: Yeah, it was entertaining. Like, who needs to watch it?
It’s like you guys were dissecting it.
Al: All right. Well-
Mat: You think you’re gonna like it based on what Victor told you?
Miriam: That, that’s what I’m… I g- have to see if Victor was correct. If- Mm-hmm … was it episode three is the best?
Victor: His track record [00:43:00] would show he’s wrong, but-
Al: Yeah, yeah.
Victor: No, I think my track record has proven me to be correct.
Al: No. Stick with it, Miriam. It’s a great, it’s a great series. You’re gonna love it. So don’t, don’t listen-
Miriam: I’ll let you know- The show and the podcast … when we finally watch it.
Al: All right. Okay. Okay. Well, have a good night and great to see you guys.
Miriam: Bye.
Al: Night.
Mat: See you. Good night. I gotta do the Kahoot! thing now, eh?
Al: Yeah. For the rest of you-
Miriam: Oh. Oh.
Tanya: I didn’t know we were doing a Kahoot!
Al: We’re doing a Kahoot! So you need to have your, uh, secondary device.
Mat: All
Tanya: right.
Al: Log on to kahoot.it
Victor: 945
Al: And the game pin is 9455943. We have Clueless. Who is that? Might be Joshua since he hasn’t even watched Heated Rivalry, so. Oh, Juan and Miriam are logging on. Uh, we have Wolf, who, who I believe is Ryan, right? Yes. Uh, For What? For what? Um, don’t know who that is, but- For what? [00:44:00]
Victor: 9… What is it? 945-
Al: 9455943. And yes, for the first time in a very long time, Awesome is allowed to compete because, uh, we should all be on relatively even playing f- uh, ground here.
If-
Victor: Hey, I finished on the podium last time.
Al: Yeah. So we’ll see if you’ve been paying attention this time.
Victor: Nah, probably not.
Al: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. Oh, there’s Victor, big M- you guys are using all these code names, so I won’t know who I’m talking about. Okay, I see- That’s- Mwahaha
Clip: mine’s not a code name.
Al: Oh, yours isn’t. Mine are fun. I know Robbie, that’s fine. Elecopter?
Clip: Elecopter.
Al: Who’s Elecopter?
Clip: I’m gonna guess.
Al: Oh, Colin, all right. Awesome, thank you for using your voi- your, your, your name, even… Well, your name we know you by.
Robby: Your preferred name.
Al: Your preferred name. All right. Is everyone in?
Is everyone in? Show me thumbs if you’re in.
Robby: Wee. That’s what she said. [00:45:00]
Al: Okay. So let’s get started with Heated Rivalry season one trivia Brought to you by The Produce Stand
Mat: How many questions do we have here?
Al: 20. 20 questions. The last five are double the points. Here we go. Oh. Which two hockey teams do Shane and Ilya play for?
Ottawa and Chicago, Vancouver and Detroit, Toronto and New York, or Montreal and Boston?
And the answer is Montreal and Boston. And 10 of you got that right. I’m gonna hope Osh- uh, Josh is the one who got that one wrong.
Mat: Why, has Josh not seen it?
Al: No. Yeah, he hasn’t watched it, so he’s just kind of playing around, playing along. And the dark one, the darkest one, the dark one. The darkest one- Dark-
is in first. That’s
Mat: not a PC bud, is it? No, it is not. He said it. He’s-
Al: Okay, who’s [00:46:00] the darkest one? Oh, what happened there? Oh,
Mat: I love it Please do not refresh.
Awesome: Oh, that’s so embarrassing for you.
Al: What the hell happened there? I’m smashing- Starlink not
Awesome: working?
Al: No. Obviously
Mat: your connection didn’t work.
Al: In which year do Shane and Ilya first meet?
Was it in 2012, in 2008- Oh,
Mat: fuck. I had a whole
Al: different number in
Mat: my head …
Al: 2010, or in 2006?
Mat: My number was very different than what appeared on the screen.
Al: The correct answer is, it was 2008. Six of you- Fuck … got that one correct.
Mat: Ooh, that
Colin: was
Mat: a good
Colin: guess.
Mat: Helicopter- I was like, 2016 was in my head …
Al: Helicopter is now in first place, followed by Wolf, Awesome, and For What in fourth, and Let’s Go Boys in fifth.
Mat: How many people are playing, just so I know if I’m in last?
Colin: If, if you have to ask.
Al: Exactly. All right. [00:47:00] Let’s move on. Which team does Scott Hunter captain? Is it the New York Admirals? Is it the Boston Raiders? Is it Montreal Metros? Or is it the Ottawa Senators? That’s Scott Hunter. Which team- Senators … which team was he the captain of?
I got 10 answers. I think we’re waiting on one more. So to answer your question, Matt, 11 people are playing. Six of you got it right. There you go. He worked, he played for the New York Admirals.
Mat: Oh, yes. I’m not in last,
Josh: bitches. If, if you look at Al’s screen, it tells you 11 in the upper right corner, Matt.
Al: What? What? Where do
Mat: you see that? Where do you seen that?
Josh: On the screen.
Al: Oh, 11. So the number of players, yeah. There’s 11 up at the top. Yeah, yeah, okay. Right.
Mat: Oh, I would never in a million years have got that, but thank you for-
Al: Right Ryan pops up to first- I, I
Josh: know reading is difficult, Matt, but-
Mat: I know. Well, it’s a number.
It’s not reading.
Al: Ryan, I felt you, you, uh, you missed an opportunity to be called Wolf Bird, not just [00:48:00] Wolf.
Josh: If, if it makes feeling it better, Matt, I am in 11th place.
Mat: I, well, I assumed that, so
Al: I was- If it makes you feel better, Matt- I
Mat: was considering 10th last …
Al: the guy who never watched the show is behind you.
And you’re the one who, you’re one of the people who rated the show. Where does Scott Hunter first meet Kip Grady? Is it at a gay bar, at a hockey game, at a charity gala, or at a smoothie shop? Oh, 11, you got that. Eight of you got that one right. It was at the smoothie shop.
Victor: That means some people got it wrong.
Al: Yes.
Josh: I might be in 11th place, but I’m only 847 points behind the next one.
Al: Yeah, so watch out. Uh, Wolf Bird is in first, Helicopter, and then- Helicopter … Awesome. Oh, look at Victor’s in fourth, and Juan and Miriam are in bed playing.
Victor: That’s the biggest surprise.
Al: What ty- what type of role does Rose Landry often play in her movies?
The [00:49:00] kidnapping victim, an undercover detective, the romantic lead, or the serial killer? 11 of you answered. Seven of you got that right. Yes, you kept on getting- Does the
Mat: signal keep dipping out for everyone
Victor: or is it just- Yes, it does Yes. Yeah. It, it’s dipping out for everybody. Yeah.
Al: Thank you. What’s, what signal?
The-
Victor: Your signal. Yours.
Al: Really? What
Victor: the hell? Yes.
Charlie: Yes.
Al: Uh, let me see.
Victor: Your
Charlie: talking suddenly stops.
Victor: Tell, tell, tell your family to get off the internet.
Al: Yeah. There’s the
Charlie: do-not sign. Send Veronica to bed.
Al: Let’s, uh, let’s go on to the next que- … Oh, let’s see. Oh, awesome. Takes first place from- Cheater … Ryan. All right, next question.
Who is selected first overall in the Major League Hockey draft? Is it Ilya Samsonov? Is it Shane Hiller? Is it Scott Hunter? No. Or Vincent Lemire?
Awesome: Fucked it.
Al: The correct answer is- You got an orders …
Victor: Ilya. Ah, God damn it.
Al: [00:50:00] Ilya. That’s right. That was a bit of a trick, a trick question. Six of you got that one right.
I was
Colin: double guessing myself there for a
Victor: second. I only heard half the question. Yeah.
Al: Helicopter goes into first, followed by Wolf, and then Awesome. Juan and Miriam are still on the board. Again, they haven’t watched the show. Are they just guessing? And Mishka is in fifth.
Victor: I don’t know. Your audio’s getting worse and worse.
Al: What the hell?
Tanya: Your fan’s going. Could it be the fan?
Al: Uh, let’s see.
Josh: Yeah,
Al: your- All right …
Josh: like, your audio and your video, everything just freezes every now and- Maybe just
Tanya: kill your camera for this.
Al: I mean,
Charlie: I- Or feed the hamster so it can run the wheel. Something’s sucking up the CPU. Yeah, that’s … Yeah.
Tanya: The fan’s going.
Al: All right. I can’t
Charlie: see you anymore.
Al: I killed my video. Let’s see what happens here. Ready? Next question.
Tanya: Yeah. Don’t they need the video?
Al: No, they- I’m sharing the- Oh … just the- It’s all about
Mat: the video.
Al: What names do Shane and Ilya use when secretly texting each other?
Charlie: God damn it.
Al: Alex and Nikki- Barky … Lily and Shane, Cagney and Lacey, [00:51:00] or Laverne and Shirley?
Come on, guys. Jane,
Tanya: not Shane.
Al: Jane. Lily and Jane. 10 of you got that one right.
Robby: You kinda gave that one.
Al: I had to give some easy ones. And Ryan takes the lead again. What the hell? All right. Next question. In which city do Shane and Ilya compete at the Winter Olympics? Is it in Vancouver, Sochi, Yangchang, or Turin?
The correct answer is Sochi. All right. Here we go. Let’s start the next question, shall we?
Victor: All right
Al: What is the name of the smoothie shop, not shake shop, where Kip works? Is it the Banana Beaters, Pulp and Press, Straw Plus Berry, or Zen Blend?
And the correct answer is [00:52:00] straw plus berry
Mat: That a stupid ass name.
Al: Yeah. It is. That was pretty weak name. All right. Victor’s back up on the leaderboard. Mishka, awesome helicopter, but Ryan s- hangs on to first place What is the name of Shane Hollander’s mother? What’s her name? Is it Svetlana? Is it Yuna?
Elena? Or Polina?
Charlie: How the fuck should I know?
Al: You just reviewed the
Charlie: whole
Al: series. I’m
Charlie: gonna be damned. 25% chance.
Victor: I don’t know.
Al: Just do some elimination there, Victor.
Victor: Ah, I got it wrong. Oh, the
Charlie: first one wrong.
Al: The correct answer is Yuna.
Victor: I thought of hitting Yuna.
Mat: Yeah, sure you did. Didn’t think correctly.
Al: Oh, that shuffled a bunch.
Awesome’s in second, Elecopter, Mishka, and Juan and Miriam, but Ryan still in first place. Here we go What gift does Kip give Scott [00:53:00] to bring him luck? Is it a pair of socks, a bracelet, a necklace, or a lucky coin? What does he give him?
Victor: Goddammit, I was clicking the thing inside our podcast. Fuck, I hit the wrong
Josh: one.
Hey, I got one right.
Al: The correct answer is- Yay … of course, a pair of socks. Are you just answering A for all of them there, Josh?
Josh: No. I’m just guessing, making, whichever one I feel like I wanna click on. Mm-hmm.
Al: Oh, all right. Isn’t,
Josh: isn’t the answer
Ryan: always
Josh: C?
Al: The answer’s usually C, yeah. Oh, Victor- It’s always C on Letterkenny
you’re back on the leader board. All right. Question 12: Who tells Scott that he and Kip both deserve sunshine? Was it Svetlana? Was it Elena? Oh,
Mat: shit.
Al: Was it Rose? Or was it
Mat: Nuna? Goddammit, wrong button. Can I take it back?
Al: Nope.
Mat: Nope.
Al: And the correct answer was Elena Does that change anything? Yeah. Nope. I
Mat: lost my answer [00:54:00] streak.
Al: The leaderboard- Slow down … stays the same. Slow down.
Mat: I want a mulligan on that one.
Al: Question 13: Where does Ilya unexpectedly see Shane dancing with Rose? Was it at a wedding, at an awards ceremony, at a team party, or at a nightclub?
Victor: I have no idea.
Al: Correct answer was the nightclub. It was at a nightclub.
Awesome: At the curb.
Al: What the hell?
Awesome: Your internet sucks
Al: balls. No, it’s
Mat: smooth- He lives in the middle of fucking nowhere …
Al: it’s a hoot. No, I, I, I us- generally have good internet. Anyway, Ryan in first, Os- Awesome in second, Mishka in third, Helicopter- And super
Mat: fan Ryan over here, eh,
Al: Tom Silk? Let’s go. Yeah. Next, question 14: What does Ilya constantly tease Shane about being?
Boring, too Canadian, too serious, or a terrible dancer
Mat: [00:55:00] Victor, it’s terrible dancer
Victor: Thank you
Al: And of course, the correct answer is boring. Nine of you got that one I don’t even know.
Mat: Yes.
Al: Nothing changes on the leaderboard. All right. We’re headed now into Double Jeopardy!.
Mat: Oh. Ooh. Ryan, get a couple wrong here, please.
Al: These are worth double points. What injuries does Shane suffer after a dangerous hit? Is it a torn ACL and broken wrist? Was it cracked ribs and concussion? Was it a broken collarbone and jaw? Was it a concussion- Ah, shit … and dislocated shoulder?
Victor: I have no idea.
Tanya: I just looked for the word concussion. I didn’t read.
Victor: Yeah.
Al: Oh, and there you go. Half of you, or five, five of you got it right. It was a concussion and dislocated shoulder
What is that doing to the leaderboard? Oh, it shifts things a bit. Ryan still in first though, Awesome in second, Elecopter in third. Let’s go, boys Did you give him the answer sheet
Mat: or
Al: something? Fourth, and Mishka in fifth[00:56:00]
Question 16 I’ve got a dog distracting me too. What does Scott Hunter do after winning the championship? Does he publicly kiss Kip? Does he give Kiss- Kip his championship trophy? Does he announce his retirement? Or does he propose to Kip in the locker room? This of course is like the apex of the, of the series.
He kisses Kip.
Awesome: Mm-hmm, with that fucking s- song.
Al: Nothing changes. Wow. I hope Josh was the g- one who got that one wrong because
Josh: I got that, I got that one right.
Al: Oh, well then who the hell? Robbie, was that you?
Robby: I got it wrong. I haven’t watched past like sea- or episode two or three.
Al: Oh, well that explains it.
Robby: So.
Josh: I’ve got it four right- I’m just guessing … just by guessing, so-
Al: Wait till you get to that episode, Robbie. You’re gonna love it. Where does Shane pick up Ilya before driving to the cottage? Is it at Montreal Airport, Toronto Pearson Airport, Boston Logan Airport- [00:57:00] Oh … Ottawa International Airport.
Mat: Montreal, obviously, guys.
Al: Don’t listen to Matt. It was in Ottawa.
Mat: It was?
Al: It was in Ottawa.
Victor: I, I had no
Mat: idea. But they went to Muskoka. That made no sense.
Al: Oh, they didn’t go to Muskoka.
Mat: Where’d they go?
Al: His cottage is near Ottawa.
Mat: Fuck.
Victor: Oh, I thought they were in Melbourne.
Mat: What? What? Australia?
Al: Nothing changes on the leaderboard- … and on my panel either.
All right. Here we go. Next question. 18. Here we go. I would’ve
Mat: sworn
Al: that’s where they went. Double points. Why does Shane’s father show up at his cottage unannounced? Was it to drop off groceries, to surprise Shane for his birthday, to do some fishing- To look at his own- … or to borrow a phor- phone charger?
The correct answer is to borrow a phone charger, and then he got an eyeful and then took off
Ryan: Like a godfather
Al: Nothing, nothing ch- nothing changes on the leaderboard. So [00:58:00] going into the last couple of questions, Ryan is in first. Mishka, uh, uh, I’m guessing is Michelle, is in second. Awesome in third.
Elecopter, I, I don’t know who Elecopter is. Who’s Elecopter? Is it- Oh,
Mat: that’s me. I am.
Al: No. You’re
Victor: lying.
Al: Yeah. It’s Col- Colin, right? Is it you? No, it’s
Victor: not
Mat: me. It’s Matt. It’s Matt.
Victor: It’s not Matt. One thing we know.
Mat: Allegedly.
Al: Who’s Let’s Go Boys? Is that you?
Mat: That’s also me.
Al: Dual
Mat: front- How we doing, boys?
Al: Second to last question: During his coming out scene, which word repeatedly triggers Shane? Is it relationship? Is it lovers? Is it gay? Or is it boyfriend? He gets triggered many… uh, re- repeatedly by this word, and the word is lovers. That’s right. In a dangerous
Mat: time. In a dangerous time.
Yes. You owe me a beer.
Josh: I got that one right. Moved up
Mat: the leaderboard. I will happily give you that beer. That was the worst.
Josh: I’m not in last place [00:59:00] anymore.
Al: Oh, poor Robbie. It’s okay.
Josh: Sorry, Robbie.
Al: Oh, big shuffle, though, on the leaderboard going into the last question. We still have Ryan in first with a pretty commanding lead.
I think, uh, think it’s yours to lose there. Awesome in second. Let’s Go Boys in third. Mishka in fourth. And Juan and Miriam in fifth, still playing. Here we go.
Colin: I’ve been behind them the whole time, and I can’t catch up, and they haven’t even seen the whole show.
Al: Last question.
Double points. What kind of Canadian waterfowl does Ilia refer to as a wolf bird? Was it a Canadian goose, a duck, a loon, or a blue heron?
Josh: I think this might be the trivia I knew the most answers to. Oh, that is…
Victor: Oh.
Al: It was, of course, the loon.
Josh: I moved up to ninth place, I think. Oh,
Victor: I finished in sixth.
Goddammit.
Josh: Somehow I made ninth place and I haven’t even seen the show. Good [01:00:00] for you, man. I knew you could do it.
Al: And here we go, the podiums. In third place, Let’s Go. Oh, Let’s Go, Boys. In second place, Awesome. And in third place… No, in first place, fuck I’m drunk, it’s Wolf. Ryan, congratulations.
Mat: Congratulations. I’m not gonna lie, it’s kinda nice to not see Awesome in
Al: first. Was that you? Look at that, Tanya on the podium. Hey,
Victor: Matt, Matt, you missed it, uh, Tanya and I were on the podium last time.
Al: Oh. Yeah. Yeah, you did miss out.
Mat: I wasn’t there so I didn’t see it, so it
Al: didn’t matter. Uh, Tanya’s on the podium again, in third there.
Victor, where were you?
Victor: Matt, where did you end up there? Well- I was in sixth. I came in sixth …
Mat: I was somewhere.
Al: All right, Nick, shut down
Mat: trivia. Would you, would you believe that I was one in
Miriam?
Al: Amazing.
Mat: Fifth.
Al: All right. That was fun. Well, that was fun. Thank you guys for participating. Um, we’re, we still have ratings to do, so we’re gonna do that now. Uh, Matt, you [01:01:00] missed the, the lineup at the top. You are at the top, so we’re going to start with you Season one of Heated Rivalry, uh, give us your rating. What would you give it, a fresh, clearance, or compost?
Mat: My rating on this season, eh?
how this was coming. You know what? It was, it was fun. Um, we can talk about it for a minute, right? Yeah. That’s part of the show. For sure. Um, overall I really enjoyed it. It was, uh, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. I know the early couple episodes we, um, there- I know I had some issues with the timeline approach, but I think that kind of grew on me.
And this is the stupidest comparison of the show, but it’s all I got right now, is, and, and I’ll explain why. So I kind of looked at the season like Harry Potter. Mm-hmm. And, uh, a- and, and why I mean is it kind of matured as the s- as the episodes went along. Right? And I always enjoyed Harry Potter because the first, uh, first movie they made was super kind of [01:02:00] kiddy and whatever, and by the end of it got super dark and, you know- Mm-hmm
it grew as they grew. Um, what I liked, believe it or not, was one aspect around the early episodes of the season, they really heavily relied on the physicality, like the physical relationship that Ellie and Shane had to really sell what was going on. And as they got towards the end, they got- they were able to step away from that and use the emotional connection to really sell the love story.
And, and I actually appreciated that approach because that’s how most relationships in the real world, you know, kind of play out, where it’s like it starts off hot and heavy and all physical, and that’s where a lot of couples begin, and then you really get to know each other, and then they sustain. So I thought it was a cool, um, way they did that.
I don’t know if it was intentional, but I’m sure it was. Um, all in, I, I actually thought it was a great season. Um, I was chatting offline with a, a friend of my wife who’s a huge book lover [01:03:00] and a huge ser- fan of this series. I think she may have listened to a couple of our episodes since she caught on that we were reviewing it.
Mm-hmm. And she was- How pissed was she at Victor … heard I was just bouncing back ideas. What’s that?
Al: How pissed was she at Victor?
Mat: Oh, yeah, I don’t know. No one, we just don’t talk about Victor. It’s just easier. Um-
Al: Might as well call
Mat: him
Al: Bruno …
Mat: but it was… Right? But it was, it was great, ’cause like I’m like I was really getting into some side conversations about how much I actually appreciated the show.
Mm-hmm. Um, which would never have been something like admittedly on a normal scale that I’d go out of my way to watch. But am I glad I watched it? Absolutely. Um, I really thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’m gonna give this season a fresh. Um, there was some ups and downs, but season three- Oh, sorry, episode three and episode five alone-
Clip: Mm-hmm
Mat: um, were so fucking fantastic. Um, and then six, the way, you know, it was a bit storybook, but I still really appreciate it. So I’m gonna give the season as a whole a fresh. I, [01:04:00] I really enjoyed it and, and genuinely looking forward to seeing what they do with the story out of, uh, coming out of this all. So yeah, it’s a fresh.
Al: Okay. Uh, Tanya, what about you?
Tanya: Yes. I’m a sucker for love stories.
Um, I, um, yeah, I, I, I loved it from the beginning to the end. I, I, I, I l- I loved the development of their relationship. But it… Just like what, what Matt was saying, that, um, um, you know, it was hot and heavy at the beginning of it and, you know, the newness and the spark and, you know, the first touch with the passing of the water bottle, like the sparks were flying.
And it was, it was all… Like, I know Victor had some, um, um, cor- issues with how, um-
Al: Ilya …
Tanya: Ilya was, um, at the beginning of it all. But, you know, I, I, I love the character development- Mm … and how we learnt about, uh, the backgrounds of, of both of [01:05:00] them. Um, yeah, it’s absolutely 100% a fresh for me.
Al: Okay. Victor?
Victor: Uh, it was, uh, you know, uh, the worst of times, the best of times kind of a show.
Um, it’s only six episodes, right? So it’s not, um, uh, it, it’s, it, it could easily go either way. But I mean, uh, episode one, uh, wasn’t like for me a hook. Like, okay, or whatever. I certainly probably would not have continued to watch after episode one un- unless this was, it was for the podcast. Episode two got worse.
I did not enjoy episode two at all. Ep- episode three came in hard, uh, and was an absolutely a fantastic episode. Actually
Mat: season, episode one came in hard.
Victor: Settle down. Episode three was a- Yeah … episode three was fantastic television. Uh, it was, uh, it was, it was, it was [01:06:00] excellent. Uh, episode four brought us back down into the gutter.
Uh, and, and then we finish, we finished super strong with episode five, and then gave a nice happy ending in episode six, uh, with some- … tropeys, with, with some tropey stuff and, and whatnot. But so, so we had three unicorns, I think. Um- Yes, we did … uh, we, yeah. Three unicorns and- So, so, so three, so if you do the math, it probably falls into a clearance, but because, but, but it’s not, we’re not doing just math.
We, there’s, there’s, uh, a more context to it. So for me- You’re judging
Al: the overall story, yeah.
Victor: Y- yeah. So the over, the overall, uh, I, and the, the overall I definitely give a pass to those lower-rated episodes, uh, because it does add to the whole character devel- development. I just still think that those episodes could’ve been individually written better.
Um, they could’ve been written better to make them better, to make them more [01:07:00] enjoyable watches. And when I say more enjoyable, I don’t mean feeling happy, but just feeling like, okay, that was a well, that, that was worth my time to watch for 45 minutes or whatever it was. I just didn’t feel that it was worth my time, those epis- But as part of the bigger story, um, uh, I think that it definitely, uh, the three unicorns, uh, give this season a fresh.
I definitely would recommend it as a show, uh, with some- There you go … caution, with some caution signs.
Al: Oh. I, I- With some
Mat: caution …
Al: I’m surprised, I’m surprised. Okay.
Anyway. So I’m not gonna leave you guys in suspense anymore. Uh, yes, this season is absolutely afresh.
Clip: Wondrous. Oh my Gawd.
Al: Oh
Clip: my God. Oh my God. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Yes. Oguh.
Take it. Oh my God. Take, take the heat
Al: Oh my- I regret nothing
Uh, [01:08:00] I didn’t, you know, I gave the first few episodes clearances because I knew this is how stories work, Victor. There’s establishing characters and stuff at the beginning, your storyline and introducing characters and doing all that. And then the characters evolve and get better, and, and that’s how stories work.
And, uh, I enjoyed it. You don’t have
video2758005849: to
Victor: write a shitty episode to make that happen.
Al: They… None of them were shitty episodes, Victor. Oh, okay. None of them were shitty.
Victor: Objectively
Al: wrong. Just because, just because you, uh, felt some sort of way about your, uh, Soviet c- uh, compadre there doesn’t mean, um, anything.
Like, uh, everyone else loved it, so obviously not. My
Victor: critiques weren’t only about Iliya. It was about the, the, the f- m- more than just that- Uh … if you can go back and listen.
Al: Oh, we can, because we recorded it. So, uh, anyway. It was, uh, definitely a fresh and a, and a very, uh, deserving unicorn. Before we get to our guests though, I wanna get our MVPs out of the way as well, and then we’ll ask our guests.
So Matt, season one Heated Rivalry MVP. [01:09:00] Uh. Who’s, who do you give it to?
Clip: Fuck.
Al: Hmm.
Clip: It’s a lot of pressure. I wasn’t ready for this question.
Al: It’s not like we’ve done this for like-
Clip: I know, but I wasn’t- … every season … didn’t know I was first ’cause I was late, so that didn’t help. I’m, I’m stalling by the way.
Mm-hmm. Um-
Tanya: Okay, I’ll go ’cause I was first.
Clip: Yeah, please go. I need, I need, I need another second.
Tanya: I was sh- I, I’m, I, I think I was Shane pretty consistently. You were
Al: pretty Shane-
Tanya: Um-
Al: Team Shane,
Tanya: yes. Yeah. I, I, I loved ev- I loved everyth- like, yeah.
Al: You liked his face acting.
Tanya: I liked how he, like, he b- he, like, even when he did the panic attack and his breathing.
Al: Mm-hmm.
Tanya: And, um, I just, yeah, I loved how he was in all of his scenes.
Al: Loved him.
Tanya: Okay. Loved him.
Al: Shane’s your MVP.
Tanya: Yeah.
Al: Victor, who’s your MVP?
Victor: Oh, man. Um,
Al: as far- And you actually gave it to some characters this season, which was, was-
Victor: Yeah …
Al: really interesting. Yeah. Actually,
Victor: yeah. So, um, [01:10:00] I, I, I felt like one of the best scenes and acting delivery was Ilya’s monologue or whatever you wanna call it- Russian scene
in, uh, uh, under, in the tunnel or wherever it was.
Clip: Mm-hmm.
Victor: It was good. Uh, where, um- Yeah … Shane was just listening, said, you know, you know, Shane basically said, “Just, you know, pour your heart out to me. You can say anything you want. I’m not gonna understand anyway,” and, you know. And then he just had his eyes closed the whole time, and it almost felt like he was understanding what he was saying even though he wasn’t.
But that whole scene, that, that was absolutely incredible. But I can’t give him an MVP for one scene. Um, for me, I think, I feel like the two characters, supporting characters that were most pivotal to this show were Kip and Rose. Um, you know, with, with Kip, it was, that episode was just so epic, and then we get episode five, the end of episode five that kind of [01:11:00] p- uh, you know, c- uh, puts it all together.
Mm. So y- just from a storybook point of view, and then the fact that he had to put up with, uh, Hunter’s, uh-
Al: Manicking and stuff, yeah …
Victor: uh, but he had to put up, he, we, off, off camera, he had to put up with this for a couple of years. Mm. And then, uh, he, it, he persevered, and at the end now, they’re in a regular, normal relationship.
Um, but the other per- i- is Rose. Like, she was so pivotal. Like, she helped, um, Shane- uh, come out
Clip: Yeah
Victor: Right? She helped him come out of his shell. Uh, and, and, and, uh, so I felt that she was… And it wasn’t one scene. Like, it was, she, she, she, she, she was such a small part of the show in terms of how much time we got with her- Yeah
but she was such a, um, a catalyst, uh, for, for change. So it’s, for me it’s between those two, but I felt like we, I f- yeah, Rose, I think from an [01:12:00] acting perspective and everything gave us more, uh, even though, uh, so, so I would say for me it’s Rose.
Al: Rose. Yeah. All right. I would have accepted both Kip and Rose, but Ro- Yeah.
Yeah. I’m, I’m glad you, you committed to one. Yeah. So Matt, now that we’ve gotten on- Yes … all of our MVPs-
Clip: Yeah, yeah. It’s all come back to- So funny enough, as I was thinking more, um, Rose is absolutely up there. I thought, I mean, as an actress, actor, um, the, w- I don’t know the person’s name who, who did Rose, but I thought it was phenomenal.
Charlie: Mm-hmm.
Clip: And from a story arc, she just was so important in it. So Rose is definitely up there. But I, I think I have, realistically, to give it to Ilya. Um, he had some really amazing scenes. Um, and yeah, that one in the, in the, in the tunnel that you mentioned, Victor, that, that monologue, um, I’ve never been so in, dialed in on a conversation I can’t understand-
Al: Right.
Clip: Yeah … as I was for that. So i- [01:13:00] it’s just fantastic. But honorable mention, though, to the tuna melt.
Al: Oh.
Clip: Because that was a big moment as well in the series.
Al: It, it did provide one of our funnier moments on the podcast. So yes, uh,
Clip: it was- You guys totally misread that scene.
Al: All right. Uh, all right, let’s, let’s get to our guests now, and we’ll, we’ll ask their opinions.
Fir- we’ll start with, uh, the winner of our trivia today, Ryan. Uh, well f- yeah, first of all, you know, give us your overall rating for, for the season, and, uh, and yeah, your MVP.
video2758005849: Uh, overall, I would also give it a fresh. I, it was a lot different than a lot of other, really any other show that I had seen.
Clip: Mm-hmm.
video2758005849: Um, they crammed a lot into just six episodes, and I liked overall the storytelling. Um, MVP-wise, now that I thought about that some too, I also had Rose right at the top, but I also really wanted to kind of, on the si- [01:14:00] I really liked Elena too. Oh. Um, Kip’s friend. She, I just, I liked a lot of her little… She had a lot of things that were more like one-lines, but also just as a friend to him.
Both of those two were just very supportive people I felt like.
Al: Okay. So you’re giving it to Elena?
video2758005849: Uh, Rose.
Al: Oh, Ro- Oh, you’re gi- giving it to Rose, but Elena with an honorable mention.
video2758005849: Yep.
Al: It occurs to me I didn’t give my MVP yet. So but e- I gave it, like, he was my MVP for like three or four of the f- six episodes was Ilya, I think, ’cause he had the, the biggest character arc, the most development.
He played the asshole perfectly early on. His maturity into the, the boyfriend a- at, near the end, at the end of the, the s- the season, perfect. And he went from being that cocky guy to being that, that, uh, shy guy who, um- you know, was meeting the parents for the first time was hilarious. Like, watching him. He, he went from being like that cocky adult to being a [01:15:00] teenager again in that last scene where, where Shane came out to his parents.
I, I really enjoyed it. And of course, the, the, uh, monologue, the Russian monologue scene was… Just the fact that he’s Texan, never spoke a word of Russian, learned all of that phonetically- Mm … to then put that kind of, uh- uh, performance on, it’s, it’s impressive. And, and people, th- they were- everyone said on the set that Russian-speaking actors thought he was Russian and couldn’t believe he wasn’t.
So kudos to Connor, Connor Story and to the Iliad show.
Clip: And I hear that Connor might be entering the MCU. There’s talks about that- Yeah, yeah … as well, that
Al: he
Clip: might be entering in Ghost
Al: Rider. Well earned. Well, both of them. Th- they’re, they’re, they’re both getting a lot of, uh, love now in, in the roles that they’re taking, so it’s, it’s amazing to see.
Um, we’ll go on to Michelle. Michelle, what do you, what do you give, uh, this rating this season, and who’s your MVP?
Michele: Uh, rating [01:16:00] fresh and hot. Fresh and
Al: hot. Fresh and hot.
Michele: Can you have both fresh and not fresh? Um, MVP, Connor Story, I have to- Yeah … I mean, just that face, those lips- Yes. … the voice. Well done.
Al: And, and, and the acting too, right?
Michele: Well, yeah. That’s what I meant w- about the lips.
Al: Oh, okay, okay. Sure. Uh, let’s see here. Who’s next on the… J- oh, Josh, you never watched the show, so, um, uh, who-
Josh: Josh, what do you think, though?
Al: Yeah, what do you think, though? Who, what’s your rating, and who’s your MVP?
Josh: Yes and yes.
Al: Yes, okay. How about you, Colin?
Colin: Um-
Al: You haven’t wa- Yeah, I’ll- You haven’t watched all of it
I’ll give it a fr-
Colin: no, I’ve watched all of it.
Al: All of, okay.
Colin: Oh, yeah, for sure. I’ll, uh, I’ll give it a fresh. Um, you know, there’s not a lot of other TV shows out there like it. Um, I agree it kind of started off slow, and it kind of got a lot better a- after episode three. But, like, if you really think about it, the, [01:17:00] the first few episodes were filled with a lot of, like, internal angst and that, like, l- between the two of them and-
Clip: Hmm
Colin: you know. So I mean, that’s kind of hard to portray, but I think the actors did a pretty good job, so I think that’s why it could feel slow to some.
Al: Yeah.
Colin: Um, as for MVP, I think I’m gonna have to give it to, uh, Scott.
Al: Oh, okay.
Colin: I think, um, you know, without him being, you know, taking those first steps with Kip, right, it wouldn’t have made them pursue their, you know, relationship.
So I think he was a, a catalyst to it all in the end.
Al: The, he is part of the, the, the climactic scene, right, that everyone’s talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Mm, climactic. All right. Uh, Jeff, did you watch the, the, the series?
Jeff: Uh, I watched the first episode and I just haven’t watched any… Like, I just haven’t- Okay. It’s not that I didn’t like it, it’s just-
Al: No, no, that’s fine.
Yeah …
Jeff: I didn’t
Al: like it, so. All right.
Jeff: I- Uh, MVP goes to the [01:18:00] exercise bikes.
Al: That’s a very Victor MVP, yes.
Jeff: Uh, and yeah, I mean, yeah, just going by what everybody else says and all the awards that it’s getting, I’m, I’m gonna say it’s probably a fresh.
Al: Mm-hmm. That’s a… If you haven’t watched it, you, uh, you don’t need to give- you can just say, “I haven’t watched it” and, uh-
Jeff: Well, I mean, there’s a lot of shower scenes, so it’s- Yeah
gotta be fresh, right?
Al: Mm-hmm. All right. It’s
Clip: at least clean.
Al: It’s-
Jeff: Yeah …
Al: zestfully. Um, let’s see, who else? Uh, Awesome, let’s get your, your rating and your MVP.
Awesome: Uh, my rating’s a fresh. Um, I have really enjoyed Tierney’s direction and, um, the fact that he is the one who adapted the screenplay and wrote the scripts and everything, that’s been really good.
Um- My MVP. Yeah, I’m gonna go with, [01:19:00] uh, with Scott Hunter too Okay. Oh, yeah, you- Not just because of, um, him putting the boot in for Finn and Ilya, but, like, for overcoming his own, like, fucked up neurotic-ness and getting his shit together and making Kip an ominous woman. So…
Al: Mm-hmm. Okay. Very cool. Uh, let’s see.
Who else here? Um, well, Erin… Uh, well, go- get to you, Erin. You just joined us. Um, I’m gonna guess what your rating is, but go on. You tell us.
Erin: Big shocker Yeah. It is a fresh.
Al: Mm-hmm.
Erin: Um, I know you’re all, uh- … floored.
Awesome: Um- Yeah, the suspense was killing us.
Erin: Yeah, it was crazy. Uh, but, um, definitely having a hard time with MVP.
I am an Ilya fan literally from the beginning, from the moment of that, that fire that just, you know, couldn’t click-
Clip: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm …
Erin: Victor. Um, but, uh, I’m, I think I’m gonna [01:20:00] go Tierney for this. Uh, thanks to him and his genius ideas and his soundtrack and the lighting, and literally every single thing that he did, uh, he earns every single, uh, MVP for me.
Al: Okay. Charlie, I see you. Can you talk?
Charlie: Yes, yes, I can.
Al: All right. Uh- Definitely … you, give us your rating and your MVP.
Charlie: Definitely a fresh. And, uh, like Erin, you know, the man, the myth, the legend, the Trotsky- … Jacob Tierney all the way. His fantastic writing style and, and directing, yeah. Fantastic that he was a fan and then made this happen.
It wa- it wa- crazy.
Al: Yeah. Yes.
Clip: Very cool. Trotsky was such a great movie,
Al: by the way. Yeah, Trotsky was a lot of fun. Uh, let’s see. Who have I… M- M- Mike, did you watch the series?
Mike: I did not watch it yet. I have not caught up to it yet. Okay. But I’ll tell you why it’s a fresh.
Al: Oh.
Mike: Because-
Al: Okay …
Mike: it has to be a fresh because I’m pretty sure Netflix had, like, a knockoff pretty quickly after, [01:21:00] right?
W- was I making that up? Did that one off the air? Well, well,
Al: yeah, there’s that, yeah, that
Mike: Teen Hockey
Al: show or something. There was some,
Mike: like, kinda knockoff-y show. But an- so if you’re making knockoffs of it, it’s gotta be fresh. Everyone’s gotta love it. What
Victor: was the knockoff show?
Mike: I don’t remember. It might be not about hockey.
You’re,
Victor: you’re not talking about Off Campus, which is on, uh, Prime- I don’t know … ’cause that’s not a knockoff
Mike: at all. Was it Prime? I don’t know. Is, is
Al: it a…
Mike: I
Al: think
Victor: that’s Off Campus. That’s not, that, but that’s not a knockoff at all. That’s, that- Well, that’s the way- … it’s own set of books … that’s the
Mike: way it read to me.
I didn’t watch either.
Victor: Yeah.
Mike: But, you know, if, if people are knocking you off, even if it’s not-
Victor: Yeah, yeah … you did. No, no, that wasn’t a knockoff.
Al: Uh, Ro- Robbie, did you… I know you say you watched, uh, the first few episodes, but maybe not all of them. Are you there, Robbie?
Tanya: Uh, the hourglass means-
Al: Oh, he’s saying he might…
Well- Oh.
Tanya: Cooking with Robbie’s
Clip: back.
Robby: Yeah. Uh, yeah, I said, I, uh, said earlier I don’t really have a rating.
Al: Oh, all right.
Robby: I think I watched two episodes, and we just haven’t watched any since. We’ve moved on to other things.
Al: Sure, no problem. Mm-hmm. Uh, who am I missing then? [01:22:00] Is, is anyone else having g- has anyone else give their rating and/or MVP?
Okay, so, uh, uh, at the risk of this not working because we’ve had so many technical difficulties tonight, there is one of these
Clip: Okay, there’s gotta be a vote Questionable call
Al: From, uh, one of our degens who couldn’t make it tonight.
Gord: Hi, it’s E Gord here. Sadly, I’m not available for the Ag Call, but needed to weigh in with a questionable call. I was disappointed in how Shane and his parents were criticized last week on the pod for his coming out.
Shane literally didn’t come out to himself as gay until a few months earlier. He shouldn’t be getting shade for not getting to his parents just yet. As for them, it’s not their job to drag him out of the closet, but to show him love and acceptance when he does. Yeah, his father ran out of the cottage, but only because he knew he had walked into something that he wasn’t invited to.
Maybe his mother is a bit too business, but she’s later to be his manager or maybe momager. In the moment, they both warmly welcomed him into their home and showed love and acceptance to Shane, which is [01:23:00] all that can be asked for. The story unfolds brilliantly and heartfelt thanks to a well-written sequence from Tierney that thoughtfully augmented what was written in the tech original book.
Finally, glad that we got a unicorn, and unlike last call, Vector doesn’t need to give his balls a tug unless he wants to in a good way. Thanks for including me in the recaps and enjoy the Ag Call.
Clip: All
Awesome: right. Love
Tanya: it.
Clip: Thank you, Gord. It’s okay to be wrong there, Gord. Yes. It’s okay.
Al: What do you
Awesome: mean?
Al: Gord, Gord isn’t
video2758005849: wrong.
Awesome: Uh, I don’t think this is the topic on which you guys should be talking over Gord.
Al: Yeah.
Awesome: Just pointing that out.
Al: Uh, yeah, exactly Um, all right. So befo- you know what? So we were talking about the, the story development on Heated Rivalry. There’s also a lot of development that went on with people who were listening and watching on, on, uh, on YouTube.
And I, I thought I’d capture some of the comments because it, it, it really, it rode the wave. Um, and uh, Victor, you know, was, was the victim of a lot of these. So Victor, I hope you don’t mind, but I’m just [01:24:00]
Victor: gonna- I, I don’t consider myself a victim in, uh, this, this- I was gonna say, are
Clip: we calling him a victim
Victor: here?
No, I’m not, I’m not a victim at all. And-
Al: Sorry, the target. I meant target There
Victor: you go. That makes more- I’ll, I’ll take target. I’m ve- very happy with target. That’s what we’re going with. So-
Al: I’m very happy with target … here’s, here’s the kind of, uh, co- comments we were getting after our episode one podcast.
“Victor has made me stop watching. He is wrong about everything, and said at the beginning what he thinks of romance.” That’s from @brianjon- jones5069. And also, “Excruci- excruciating to watch someone who clearly hates it.” That’s from, uh, Pam and Seth, uh, on YouTube. So, so that’s after episode one. We move on to episode two.
“I look forward to Victor coming around after episodes five and six. If he doesn’t, then he is dead inside.” That’s from Tara Ventola. “Victor makes this video unwatchable. Contrarianism for its own sake is tedious. I find the other four hosts engaging and diverting. However, I’m not sure that is enough to overcome Victor’s antagonism and [01:25:00] obvious banality.”
Wow.
Victor: This is not a glazed podcast. We’re trying to be honest here.
Al: But they don’t know this. If you’re not ha- This is why I was enjoying this- Um … ’cause these are listeners who don’t know- It was really fun
Clip: to read.
Al: Yeah … what we do, what we do. That was from leoned13. He comes back later. Uh, after episode three, “What a shock.
Victor can only connect with the story when its wr- narrative is structured in a tired, cliched, uh, heteronorm- normative trope.” So even when you’re agreeing with them- … th- they can’t… They gotta fucking complain, right?
Victor: No, no. But i- that comment is just so ignorant. It’s so, so ignorant. It says a lot more about them than it does about anybody else.
Al: And that was maymarie33. And also, “It’s so fascinating how different people can watch and, and see and interpret the same thing so differently.” Talking about Victor here. Oh, man. So episode four, this is- So that was when, when… That was a unicorn, episode three.
Jeff: Yeah.
Al: Episode four. “I had just been fast-forwarding through Victor’s [01:26:00] comments, but I thought I’d give him another chance, and that proved to be a huge mistake.”
That’s from Tam, the pink-haired girl. Uh, “I really wish Victor would at least make some sort of effort to understand non-dialogue-based storytelling, but I’ve given up on him having any visual literacy.” So- I mean-
Clip: This is a better show than ours, is like- Right? … watching the comments.
Al: Laura2481. Now we get to episode five.
Clip: It all changes, Victor, don’t worry.
Al: C- I have
Clip: no idea …
Al: Victor liked episode five, and he will most definitely also enjoy episode six, winky face. That’s from Annie222. “I think Victor has partly redeemed himself, yet his steadfast reluctance to admit his errors about episodes one, two, and four clarifies his inability to watch them honestly without knee-jerk contrarian effect.”
Liam- It’s a cult. Liam said.
Clip: That’s Twitter.
Al: And then finally, after episode six, “I’ve really enjoyed these last two [01:27:00] episodes. Well done, everyone. Glad you’ve enjoyed it. Let’s all brace for h- for Victor’s reaction to…” dot, dot, dot, “A character I won’t name in case you consider it a spoiler.” I think she’s referring to future seasons, but, uh, anyway.
Victor: All right.
Al: That’s kind of the rollercoaster. And I
Victor: didn’t- Wait, future seasons? Yeah Has… H- Are there other seasons?
Al: Well- What? … they’re shooting… Oh, Victor. Fuck.
Victor: Oh, oh, she means like books.
Al: No, they’re se- they’re shooting seasons two and three right now.
Victor: No, but nobody knows about it. Well yeah, but she’s referring to the books.
Oh, yeah. No, she’s talking about the books. She’s referring to the book, the story. Okay, okay. Yeah,
Al: but the, the… They’re based on the books.
Victor: All right, all right.
Al: All right. So that’s
Victor: gonna- Anyway, just, just for all, any, any new listeners out here, um, thi- this is not a Glaze fanboy, fangirl podcast. We’re here to give our…
That’s, that’s why we have a rating system, is so that we can all have opinions about the individual episodes that we watch. And we’re not all gonna always love everything, and there’s [01:28:00] gonna be cr- uh, constructive feedback that we give sometimes. Mm-hmm. If you can’t handle it- … then go and find some fan podcast where you’re sitting in an echo chamber and you’re only hearing love and ponies and unicorns-
and go and, go and enjoy. If you want some honest feedback with contra- contrasting views, um, and, and are, you can handle it, then, then you might actually enjoy it. Otherwise, it’s like, it’s just so silly. People can’t handle it. Just, it’s okay to have different opinions. It’s unbelievable.
Al: So those are, those are the fun ones that I read.
Obviously, there were some nastier ones I wasn’t gonna read. But there was also some- Yeah … who appreciated your, your, your point of view, Victor, so, but those wouldn’t have been fun to read, so…
Mike: Can we do it, can we do it next time where he reads them, like, mean tweets on Jimmy Kimmel? Oh, that’s a good one.
Al: You know what, Mike- He should
Mike: read them, he should read them himself. Fuck,
Al: that was brilliant. You are right. All right. I think, uh, w- if we get these kinds of comments in the future, we will get Victor to read them, his own [01:29:00] comments.
Mike: All right.
Al: All right. That’s amazing. All right. Uh, all that’s left is final comments, and I’m gonna go around the table real quick here.
Uh, let me just open up my participants list here so I don’t forget anyone. I’ll start with Ryan. Buddy, it’s great to see you. I hope you had a good time tonight despite all the technical difficulties. Thanks for sticking around. Mm-hmm. Uh, final comments from you
video2758005849: I don’t really have much. I really enjoyed the show.
I liked y’all’s recap of it. Um, and I, I agreed throughout a lot of it. I, I’ve gone back and re-watched only mainly three, five, and six for episodes. But yeah, enjoyed the show.
Al: So those are the ones V- Victor likes. That’s, those are, so those are the ones you re-watched. Okay, cool. Uh, Michelle, great to see you.
Michele: Ditto. Great fun as always. Uh, come to Sudbury, everybody.
Al: Yes. Come. We need, we need to, to get up there, uh, for another get- get together one of these days.
Michele: Mm-hmm. Hope-
Al: hopefully soon. Uh, who’s next? Uh, let’s go Josh. [01:30:00]
Josh: Yeah. Hopefully I’ll get to watch the show here and all this will make a lot more sense to me, so.
Al: Watch the show, then come back and listen to the podcast. It’ll all make sense. And, and- Love- … love to know who you agree with after …
Josh: yeah, gi- give me another year and I’ll be able to give you my rating.
Al: Sounds good. Uh, Colin.
Colin: Uh, yeah. It’s been great. Um, let’s hurry up and end this so we can w- start watching I Kill the Bear.
Al: Yes. Uh, can’t wait for that. Um, Jeff.
Jeff: Why are we hammering on Victor tonight? I feel so bad for Victor.
Al: No, no, no, don’t feel bad for him.
Jeff: Do you? No. No, no, no, no, man. Victor, I love you, buddy. I love you. Um- You’re- Great seeing everybody … you’re a good man. Um, yeah, till next time.
Al: All right. Uh, let’s see. Erin.
Erin: Super late, but thank you, uh, for covering Heated Rivarly- Rivalry.
Thank you for letting me be a part of this. And, um, [01:31:00] so wonderful to see everybody.
Al: All right. Great to see you too. Mike.
Mike: Hey. I have nothing constructive to add about Heated Rivalry. I haven’t watched it yet, but it’s always great to see all you guys, and that’s why I was able to finally jump on around 10:00.
Um, and yeah, let’s get to The Bear.
Al: Yes. Robbie.
Robby: It’s great to see you all. Uh, great to see Victor do his, um, pro wrestling rant. It’s gonna show up in my Facebook reels, uh, pretty soon, I think.
Al: Oh, yes. I’m gonna clip that for sure.
Robby: Please make that a reel.
Al: Uh-huh. Yes. Good to see you
Robby: all.
Al: Charlie.
Charlie: Victor, you brings the contrast, and that’s what I appreciates about ya.
It brings out the, uh, the chutzpah in, in the rest of the l- the cast, Al Tan. And I can’t believe no one’s said this yet. Fuck you, Matt. Thank
Clip: you.
Charlie: Awesome that we can do this e- despite the technical g- difficulties and everything [01:32:00] else, you know? It’s really cool for everyone to come together. R- really appreciate y’all.
Al: Yeah, wouldn’t have been an Ag Hall without a fuck you, Matt, so thanks for that. Awesome.
Clip: Appreciate that.
Awesome: Yes. Final thoughts. Uh, sorry, I’m just banning somebody for being a prick on the subreddit.
Al: Oh, multitasking.
Awesome: Yeah. Uh-
video2758005849: You don’t have a mute button
Awesome: for that? Yeah, I always enjoy Ag Halls. It’s fun. I’ve seen some faces that I’ve dearly missed.
Joshua, looking at you. Robbie. Show up more to family meetings. Um, yeah, uh, looking forward to season two and, uh, I killed a bear
Al: All right. Did I miss anybody other than my own panelists? No? All right, so Matt, you’re up.
Victor: The, the, the… Oh, yeah, Michelle went. She invited us to supper.
Al: Yeah. Yes.
Clip: Um, yeah, sorry I was late, but great seeing everyone.
Uh, a few faces I haven’t seen in a long time, so it’s just really great to be back. I know I’ve actually missed a couple [01:33:00] Ag Hauls, so I was really adamant that I make it here, even if I was late. Um, but these are always fun. It’s always a blast hanging out with you guys. Um, and the ones that haven’t watched the show, I’m telling you, watch it.
It’s, it’s, it’s, it’s worth it. It’s a great, it was a great, it was a great watch. Um, far better than I ever actually gave it any credit for, so I’m very glad that we did it. And looking forward to the bear, ’cause it looks fucking unhinged and I’m here for it. So here we go.
Al: All right. Uh, Casey, you just joined.
Can you, you wanted to say anything before we log off?
Kacey: Hi and goodbye. Re- just remind them who Jared put in a headlock, Victor.
Al: That’s right, yeah.
Victor: That’s right.
Al: It was a, it
Victor: was a, it was a bear hug, I think.
Al: It was a bear hug, yes.
Kacey: Hey, uh, quite appropriate. It’s like a double entendre, that bear hug. There
Clip: you go.
Al: Right. Uh, maybe in… W- we’re gonna find out the bear, bear’s name in I Kill the Bear is Victor. Who knows? Um, Tan. [01:34:00]
Tanya: Hi. Um, tonight was great. Thank you so much. I love seeing all your smiling faces. Sorry for all the internet issues. You guys were gems staying on and s- signing back in and, and, and, uh, putting up with all the issues.
That’s all
Victor: gonna be edited out, Tanya.
Al: Yeah.
Tanya: Oh. We’re,
Al: now I gotta edit your- You’re, you’re
Tanya: ruining it Oh. No, I’m just kidding. I’m sorry. Nothing happened.
Al: No, nothing happened.
Tanya: Nothing happened. The magic
Al: of
Tanya: TV podcasting is- Nothing, nothing to see … is dead. Nothing to see. Um, no, this was a lot of fun, and I’m really looking forward to, um, uh, season two and three.
And, uh, yeah. Looking forward to, to reviewing more.
Al: Victor.
Victor: Yeah, this is always fun, uh, seeing everybody. Um, e- even though some of you are degens for not watching the show. It’s kinda… I- if we had to, if I had to do it, you should’ve done it as well, God damn it. Um, you know, you know. But, but I also kind of feel vindicated, ’cause some of them gave up after the episodes that [01:35:00] did not hook you in, so, uh- They didn’t
Al: give up.
They ran out of time.
Victor: They, they gave up. They… I know they know. They know, we know. Uh, anyway, uh, you do… There is, you do get rewarded. So if you stick through it, remember, it’s only six episodes. So if you, if you get past the first two episodes, you’re gonna get rewarded in episode three. You’re gonna get let down in episode four, but then things improve in five and six.
So I would say i- it, it does re- it i- it is worth it. It is worth it to g- uh, get yourself through some of that sludge at, at the beginning. Um, anyway, uh, looking forward to, you know, seeing what comes next. Hopefully, it’s just gonna be good going forward. Like, I don’t need episodes to be bad. I don’t need, uh, you know, to, to use that as a release for, for myself.
So, um, anyway, we’ll see. Uh, Kill The Bear, I hope it’s, uh, I hope it’s gonna be understandable. I’m concerned. Yes. Because some of the trailers, if… Without the subtitles, I would have no idea what the fuck is going [01:36:00] on. So, uh, I’m… My, my only concern going in is am I gonna understand? So,
